Absinthe Brasserie and Bar - SF
Exceptional and creative food arising from the classics served in an elegant Belle Époque setting. One of the best and most beautiful restaurants in San Francisco. It is always a pleasure to be at Absinthe.
The front desk would not seat us because we were too early. There were plenty of empty seats and they were not busy. We had to wait in the noisy bar area until we insisted to be seated.
Recently Absinthe has changed.
We've been frequent diners for years, always pleased and looking forward to our next special evening at Absinthe.
Our favorite servers are gone, replaced by people just doing the job.
The busser attempted to remove our bread plates before the entrees were served! Bread and butter did remain so they would seem not to be thought appetizer plates.
Our server checked once after our entrees were placed by another, inquiring if we "had everything we needed".
Plates were presented and removed reaching across us.
The Cab Frank was not up to par...same price but not at all the same caliber wine.
The food was as always good...expensive...and served in a perfunctory manner.
Sadly, we won't return.
Speaking of our experience to others, we found they had already moved on!
We had brunch at Absinthe. The selection of food was somewhat limited, but the food we had was excellent. There is an intimate feeling to the dining area and the service was terrific. I highly recommend
Perfect dining experience before a show - located near the theaters, outstanding service and wonderful food.
Everything was delightful. We were celebrating a birthday and reserved a table on a friend's recommendation. I think we were both happiest with the pretzel bites and the French onion soup. The waitstaff was very professional and the ambiance/location were perfect.
Not as good as it used to be. Everything(Salad, Salmon, dessert) just ok. Even my Gin and Tonic was just ok. Our waiter didn't seem too happy to be there and it showed. Too bad
Great food and good people watching.
The food and drinks were amazing and a great place for groups or a small intimate dinner
Loved😍 my boullabaise
Hubbie devoured his steak
The charred broccolini was exceptional. Wish we'd had time for dessert
Happily recommend !
Service and quality of food was excellent as usual However, after having been here several times now, I find the menu limited.
Hospitality and friendliness of staff AND the Coq au Vin!!!!
Great drinks, delicious food and really outstanding service. This is one of my favorite places to eat with friends in San Francisco. Their absinthe drinks are wonderful, and the pate is great. Main dishes taste very good, but are a tad expensive for what you receive.
Went to lunch first time, food was delicious
Want to go for dinner now
Great service and great food! We saw a show after dinner and the staff made sure we got out on time
Lovely service and food & drinks quality much improved over last visit. Thank you!
the food was presented in a very delicate manner and it was delicous. The service was very good.
We had another great meal at Absinthe. Our server Ryan was knowledgable about both the menu and the wines. We enjoyed a cheese board and some oyster shooters to start, as well as two great entrees. The food, service and ambience at Absinthe never disappoints.
The food was so delicious! Our waitperson David was outstanding - made the dining experience delightful.
The cocktail and appetizers were amazing. The server was delightful.
The Hostess was very accommodating for a mistake that we made, which was a huge relief. The waitress was very kind and attentive. We were in a time crunch and mentioned this to her. The dishes came out EXTREMELY quickly. We ended up having plenty of time for an enjoyable meal.
Cocktails were excellent.
We enjoyed our pre-theater dinner here; our waiter was attentive to our time constraints and recommended some delicious food. Great cocktails, too!
We had a very lovely dinner at Absinthe before our show! My husband had an amazing cocktail and I am pregnant so they offered me a very refreshing ginger lemonade mocktail. My husband had the Wagyu steak which was cooked perfectly and was so flavorful and tender. I had the gem lettuce salad which was very light and refreshing and the summer bouillabaisse which had lobster, halibut and octopus and was sooooo delicious!
We had a great experience and lovely ambiance of the restaurant. The waitress also asked if we were attending a show and made sure we would make it out on time. They gave us a sweet little dessert to celebrate our anniversary!
Great cocktails and bistro french cuisine!
Exciting new menu items from Chef Ryan Fowler - lunch - brunch - dinner.
A 20.00 burger turned into 30.00 by adding tomato and cheese, no bun, and a side salad instead of fries
Our server was utterly delightful. LOVED the french onion soup and fresh roasted peppers. The burrata, heirloom and peach salad was excellent. Delightful pre-theatre dining experience!
Great ambiance, staff, and service. Typically we prefer the vibe of restaurant bars, it were much happier being seated in the dining room
I was looking for a decent meal in a decent environment and not too loud (which is rare in SF) and I was happy with the place. Food is tasty with decent portion. However, this place is definitely on the pricey side. I wouldn’t come back for food but might come back if I wanted to bring guests for non-queue, decent restaurant.
Waiter Inflexible In adding a piece of grilled Salmon to a salad , really???
Very limited menu.
Nice experience in the past however will not be returning.
Great food. Classic vibes. Perfect cocktails. Needs a little more polish and some new takes on the menu.
Food was fabulous, service was really good...but he seemed less enthusiastic to serve us after we chose not to order alcohol (even though we got cappucinos, appetizers and entrees).
The bartender and server were very accommodating and friendly. It’s always an amazing experience to dine at Absinthe. The food was top notch, and the menu selection is outstanding. The only exception was the hostess- she couldn’t seem to bother. I would have appreciated someone with a more welcoming attitude.
Excellent food. Waiter could have been a little quicker with service but overall he was very good. Would have no hesitation to go back.
Delicious meal and fantastic service at Absinthe. This restaurant is an SF classic that never goes out of style.
Nice lunch with my wife while on a lazy day visit to the City. We sat at the cafe tables on the sidewalk and thoroughly enjoyed our mean and the experience.
Great meal and service. We had such a great time in a very cool space. Will be going back!
The one pound rib eye special, dry hung for 30 days, was the best rib eye I ever tasted! And I’ve been dining in the city for almost 40 years, so this means a lot! I would request that dish to be on your regular menu. I’ve been to Absynthe a few times over the years, but I thought this was the best out of them all.
Absinthe is my go-to when out of town friends visit. Was there no long ago with a young actress friend who was in town from Chicago. Yesterday I was catching up on old times with a singer friend who'd not been here since 1989. She'd suggested Hayes St. Bar and Grill . I have nothing against Hayes St. Bar and Grill but turned the get-together to my "home court" advantage. Thanks as always.
