Definitely worth a return visit. Few foods to my taste, but the ones I selected were very tasty and pleasing to the eye.
Outdoor parklet is great. The food is mediocre but a welcome dinner during covid.
Dinner was a group reunion of old friends with a variety of tastes. Had great mixed cocktails. Before dinner. Dinnner and starter choices were great. We were quickly seated, for five. Our server was thoughtful and knew what to recommend. All the dishes came out as expected. The only trick was finding parking which is not a restaurant function, but that worked out.
I've been going to Absinthe for years. It's one of my favorite restaurants in San Francisco. Their Covid protocols are great. I love that they require proof of vaccination. Like most restaurants, their menu is reduced from normal. What bothered me was that their two most beloved menu items, pretzels and coq au vin, are missing. For those of you who have not tried their pretzels, it may be a little surprising to hear pretzels spoken of in reverential terms, but these are a religious experioence.
A classic SF dining experience that is always great.
There were two hosts there that made my guest feel incredible. She was going through a tough family tragedy and these two guys made her feel so special with their warm and friendly treatment. Our server was also very nice a friendly. Food was outstanding as always as were the cocktails and wine. Always been my go to spot and this time it was above and beyond.
Food is excellent but the piped-in music was substandard pop.
We went for the French onion soup and it didn't disappoint.
Such an SF classic! Great food, and love the location.
I have always loved Absinthe. There were a couple of disappointments on this visit. The fries were not crisp - they tasted good but the crispness wasn't there. The french omelette was tasty but I felt the blue cheese was a bit overwhelming and I like blue cheese. The mixed green salad had some sad leaves in it. All in all it was "nice" but not as "nice" as I have had in the past. They did a great job with the outdoor seating and I felt like I was at a bistro in Paris.
Fantastic food and service. Have been here several times before and it just keeps getting better.
I’ve been coming here for 20+ years. It’s a warm atmosphere. The benches need to be reupholstered. I’m sure it’s hard due to cash flow. The menu is consistent. The staff are helpful, especially the bus boys. We were running late so perhaps they were rushing but the onion soup was disappointing.
The ribeye was great. The potatoes needed salt! I’ll be back. Second time in two months.
Absinthe is absolutely fabulous. No exaggeration. I am not really picky so perhaps my judgement is not one you should depend on. I have NEVER EVER had an omelette this good. I know it’s a basic cooking school thing but I could eat this every day. If I lived close by, I’d spend a dangerous amount of money and time here. It set a beautiful feeling for our first night at the opera and we are so appreciative. Absinthe will be a go-to for SF activities!
Enjoyed the meal, very good preparation. Only lunch menu online, big departure from dinner service.
Everything as usual here - great food, service, and fun and lively restaurant. Happy to be back dining at this restaurant and good spot before Symphony, Opera, or Herbst events.
Outstanding meal and service. I ordered the warm olive plate and they were delicious and I don't even like olives, I ordered them for my girlfriend.
Wait staff was good. My water was filled regularly which I appreciate
Food was good
The Service was outstanding by Emma. The food was divine. The host Mark was welcoming. Thank you for a lovely Birthday Lunch!
Very nice outdoor setting to accommodate COVID including heat lamps and nice wooden dividers. Staff was great and were most generous when we informed them the wine was corked. They immediately provided us with a new bottle. However, the server poured the new wine in the glasses with the corked wine. We just let it go. All was good.
Marcus was fantastic, and offered excellent suggestions. We enjoyed everything we ordered, however, I found the garlic in the Caesar dressing to be a bit overpowering. It eliminated any chance of tasting the anchovy which should be the star.
The food was lovely and the service was examplary. We look forward to returning.
There is much better French restaurants in SF for the price. There was only four main entrees available because of of them was out and they didn't have a daily special. I was very disappointed in the food as I had read such great reviews. This was my first time and last time visiting.
The Maitre "d was professional attentive and friendly. The waitstaff had good timing. We will definitely revisit.
loved the outside dining option and you should keep it as it gives the place a Paris flavor.
Great food, attentive but relaxed service AND: we had requested a quiet corner, and the staff actually had us seated in a quiet spot in which we could talk without raising our voices. The food and drinks were wonderful, and staff helpful and attentive.
Recommend the steak frittes - service is excellent, great wine list as well and ample outdoor seating
Loud, mediocre food, great service
Stellar evening. Service was great. Marcus was perfect. The right combination of timing and personality. Management was super. You can definitely tell these are player coaches and understand their role is to help everywhere. Food was outstanding in both flavors and portions. Overall fantastic.
Amazing service and attention. They call me to update me on the reservation timing. I was impressed by the staff genuine warming welcome and services in general. The food was amazing!
It was great to be back at Absinthe for a pre-opera dinner. The server was responsive and we were out in plenty of time. Drinks and food (especially the lamb) were delicious. I hope they expand their days of service soon.
We had reservations for outdoors, but after checking our proofs of vaccination, we were given the choice to eat indoors which we greatly appreciated as the evening was very hot and the street quite noisy. Service was prompt and efficient, the food was delicious, and we were able to make our 7:30 performance with plenty of time to spare. A wonderful experience!
Just a lovely lunch with a thoughtful waiter, wonderful food and a quiet corner table!
We had a wonderful meal and great service. We chose to be outside, so the street noise was unavoidable.
We dined indoors a few days after the start of the San Francisco vaccine mandate for indoor dining.
It was great to dine inside Absinthe again, as it is such a beautiful restaurant.
Three of us met to celebrate a birthday.
Food very good. As an appetizer we shared the potted smoked trout and the triple cream brie. Both were excellent.
I had halibut with ratatouille and that was also very good.
We shared a couple of bottles of the one Rose on the wine menu that day. A crisp dry Rose from Provence. For dessert we shared the fig cake.
The service was excellent!
We’ve been to Absinthe before the pandemic hit, and since we were going to SF to see Hamilton, we needed a place to have dinner that we trusted, that we’ve been to before and enjoyed. Absinthe met all those marks. Checking vaccinations, wearing masks, we all felt very safe and comfortable in the indoor environment. I think the menu has been reduced down a bit but it still had some very nice, fresh choices. I had a Caesar salad with some very good vegan heirloom tomato and squash soup. My husband had the ratatouille with branzino. We split the pommes frites. Very happy to be back in SF and enjoying our very nice dinner at Absinthe!
We had a wonderful dinner before going to see Hamilton. Hosts and waitress were welcoming and the food outstanding - as always
We ate outside. It was a comfortable space. The food was excellent and the service friendly.
Great lunch on Friday. The trout sandwich was perfectly portioned & super tasty with a side salad. The traditional steak tartare was nicely updated & was already spread on a slice of bread - very convenient & delicious. The Prosecco was fresh & bubbly & the vodka on the rock was on a generous side. It’s one of the best bars in SF.
Would highly recommend, food was great! Service was awesome! Definitely would come back.
Was just wonderful
