Angelo's Wine Bar
This is my second time visiting Angelo's Wine Bar and I will definitely go back. The food was delicious. There were three of us and we ordered the special salad of the day, White Asparagus with Micro Greens. It was divine. Lightly grilled, the sauce was a perfect combination of tart and creamy. The cauliflower was also fabulous. Well seasoned, quite delicious, and our server, Georges, who is also the sommelier, asked the chef to honor our request to have the mint on the side, as not all of us like mint in our entrées. The Shrimp with Creamy Polenta was beautifully prepared. The shrimp were not overdone, but lovely and tender, and the creamy polenta was unctuous and perfectly prepared. The Smoked Short Rib was pretty good, although it seemed a bit pricey for what it was, and it was not fully smoked, but rather partially smoked and either roasted or perhaps braised. It was quite tasty though.
The cocktails were really good, although not entirely suited to the menu.
I have one tiny issue and one "more than tiny" issue. The tiny issue would be that the space needs some fabric or something to absorb noise. The restaurant was quite full and between the noise of the patrons, and the loud music, we found ourselves yelling at one and other, rather than conversing.
My more than tiny issue was the overwhelming smell of Fabuloso. When we sat down, the area reeked of Fabuloso Cleaning product. Gagging me. Not because I am hypersensitive, but because it stinks. When the folks at the table next to ours left, another heavy spray of Fabuloso lingered for a good several minutes. It is not an odor one wants to smell when dining. Honestly, I don't want to smell it ever, as it is heavy, cloying, and kind of gross. I think I combination of water, and white vinegar might do the trick. It really is the one thing that is so easily remedied, and would make all the difference in the world.
The restaurant has the best food. The staff is very knowledgeable and will tell you what is their recommendations. We of course love their wine and make this a once a month date night spot.
Really delicious pappardelle pasta and pizza carbonara
No for food. We waited for a long time for our food and at the end the food was cold. They brought food to two people and 20 minutes later to the rest of the group.
I came in for a late lunch/early dinner around 330, so it wasn't very busy at the time. I was taking my mom out. We split a craft of the Hahn wine on draf , the basic salad and the mushroom pizza. The wine was excellent, I'm a huge fan of bold, dry reds. The salad was made up of all the yummy, healthy greens (baby kale, arugula and spinach). I always love when restaurants don't just serve basic iceberg lettuce. The mushroom pizza was delicious and just the right size to split. Our waitress was very friendly and attentive. When we got our bill, it was lower than I expected, which is always nice! Overall my mother and I both really enjoyed it and will be coming back in the future.
Great food. Great service. Reasonable prices. Movies & music make it unique.
Group of 6 had an early (5 pm) reservation before a show. My daughter has allergies and we were very clear about her order for a GF pizza with no cheese, but they completely screwed it up. They were very slow to bring the new pizza and By the they brought the correct pizza everyone else had finished the meal and some of our group had to leave. Also the new pizza was still not what she had ordered but at least not a threat to her health.
No real apology, nothing off the bill.
The food was good but obviously we won’t be back.
Great shared dishes before music at the Montrose Saloon
Lovely atmosphere and great food.
Great service. Great Manhattans and Old Fashions. Noise level allowed us to talk!!
Nice place. Nice bar, high top tables and regular tables. Will accommodate whatever you need. Excellent beer and wine selection. Food was great.
Nice place for a nice dinner, casual dinner or appetizers around the bar.
The food was very good but you never know what kind of proportions you are going to get. Plates seemed too small for the price. However, the half off wine makes going on Mondays very reasonable and the atmosphere at Angelo's is like no other. It never feels too crowded in there and yet full of happy people dining in an intimate lighting. I usually hate bars with TV's because they are loud and distract from conversation but Angelo's does it right by putting on black and white films with little to no volume. Feels more like a moving art piece than a TV blaring in the background.
Really great spot. We were impressed with the quality of food. Hearty but light dishes. We ordered the gnocchi, calamari and their gluten-free pizza. Also, an impressive wine list. Lots of one-of-a-kind wine selections. Their on-tap wine was perfection. We are definitely coming back. The layout and ambience was easy, comfortable and cozy. Worth the stop in!
I have been there several times now and everytime it has been excellent. Their cocktails are delicious and their beignets are outstanding (better than the ones in New Orleans).
Always a good time, treated like family. Got busy but we never felt neglected - our bottomless mimosas were never empty!
Excellent wine, food, and service. Beverage list was extensive. There was something on the menu for everyone in our group from pasta to pizza to small plates. Staff was responsive and friendly. Only observation was the multiple TVs on the walls playing black and white movies were visually distracting. Otherwise it was a great experience. Look forward to returning.
Came in for my niece’s birthday since she was in town and I live in the neighborhood. She wanted pizza so this was the perfect spot. Food was amazing. I just wish the service was more attentive. After being seated, it took over 5 minutes for a server to come by to greet us. Our section did fill up quickly so I saw that he was busy. It would’ve been great if there was better teamwork, especially from a management perspective. I saw him stop and several other tables in our section but not once at ours. All in all, my niece had a great time so that’s what matters. I have dined in previously, usually with Megan. It wasn’t a horrible experience just not the best I’ve had.
It was lovely.
Great tasting food and dolche wine!! Good service! Music was one notch high but could’ve been right by the speaker. Will be back!
Best neighborhood gem in Chicago! Great food, service, and ambiance all done by owners who show care and graciousness at every level!
Love this place. They always give the best food and wine recommendations. The ambiance is great for date night and girls nights.
Great service excellent food loved the wine menu
One of my favorites! Ambiance is great! Great wine selection and great food! My husband and I have been here a few times and each time it was great! I would recommend to anyone!
Went on Valentines Day and wasnt pleased with our experience. Made a reservation weeks in advance, was seated at very close tables to where I was bumping elbows with the person next to me. We ordered two dishes of pasta, baked goat cheese and lamb lollipops. We were told that two of our dishes would come out at the same time then the other two would follow. Goat cheese came first with no pasta. Two different servers asked us back to back if we had our pasta yet, obviously no. Then one of our pasta dishes came after 20 minutes. It was nice to watch my date eat food while I sat and waited (sarcastic). I ordered the lamb medium rare. When it came out half of them were burnt and were well done. The pasta was good, but overall a bad experience as it grew annoying with servers asking if we had our food yet with none of them having any clue what was going on.
Service was very slow. The food was fine. Good wine selection!
My boyfriend and I dined at Angelo's Wine Bar for Valentine's Day. The food was delicious! They had a special pre fixe menu for the holiday which was $35 a person. Portions were generous and well worth the value. Service was a little slow but it was Valentines Day after all. Every table was occupied by patrons. The tables are a little close together for my liking; we could hear the conversations of the couple next to us. The lighting and ambience are nice inside. The wine was delicious and our server was very knowledgable about the food and wine.
Very pleasant experience. Food, service and ambiance quite nice. We will definitely be back!
Discovered Angleos last year and been eating here often ever since. Great food in a really comfortable room. Wine values are easy to find and they have several half price glass and bottle nights which was a pleasant suprise! One of our favorite neighborhood gems in any town!
I loved the food and the atmosphere at Angelo’s. You can also find a really tasty wine off the menu even if you’re not an expert On wine. Great for a fun night out with friends.
The billing as a "family owned pizza place since 1962" is misleading. Don't get me wrong. I'm sure it has been a family place since 1962 and there was probably an Angelo somewhere back in the history. And they have pizza but we never got to that part of the menu.
The place appears to be driven in part by a former sommelier at some notable downtown places. Not surprisingly, the wine list is a lot of fun. The menu seems to be about sharing-sized plates so this is a nice date restaurant. My smoked short rib was perfect and my companion had sausage and peppers, ordinarily a basic red sauce standard but this rendering had several layers of flavor that are missing from the typical Sicilian preparation. Beignets for dessert were a perfect ending and, again, sharable.
A couple of singles were eating at the bar when we arrived, one with laptop open. The table next to us was a couple with a one year old so I get the impression that this is a neighborhood haunt but clearly competes very favorably in a bigger league and at a higher level than the "pizza since 1962" slogan might imply.
We went for restaurant week for brunch. The service was very poor and slow. The small plates were ok, my avacado toast was not toasted, it arrived 15 minutes after the first appetizer in our group of 3, each persons arriving with long gaps between, mine about 50 minutes after being seated. The main meals were ok, again arriving at intervals of perhaps 5 minutes. It made the meal disjointed. The deserts were the best part of the meal and we had different desserts and all were good. Overall the food was ok, the service was poor. Will not return
So glad to have found this restaurant. The restaurant week brunch menu was an amazing value. So much food and all of it delicious. The staff were a bit slow but they seemed to be short staffed and they were always friendly and accommodating. I'll be going back to try their dinner menu.
Came for Restaurant Week, food was absolutely amazing
It was my first time there, and I was on a first date. Could not of picked a better place to impress my girl. Food was outstanding drinks were delicious ,friendly staff. Decent but not an overwhelming crowd for Saturday night. I definitely will be going back
Went for restuarant week and they offered a very nice array of options for a three course meal. Service was good, however the small high top tables are not accomodating for the share plates. We received more plates even though we still had food left from first courses, even so, we didn't seem to be rushed by the service team. The wine glasses could have been a bit cleaner, (maybe wipe spots away before serving), although I have seen and returned worse. Did I mention that they have some good wines on tap?! Get the carafe size, better deal and about three glasses of wine in each carafe.
The food was amazing and the restaurant week menu was awesome and a great value! I'm gluten free and they were very accommodating. We will definitely be back!
Excellent Restaurant Week brunch menu. Options were abundant, flavors were good, and asceticism was beautiful.
We went to try Angelo’s during restaurant week. I had not been to this restaurant in years, since it was a pizza place (it was very good then). It has been nicely transformed to a nice wine bar. The shareables are generous and delicious. We had the avocado toast, French toast and fruit plate. The breakfast entrees were ok. We will be going back again to try dinner.
Warm and inviting interior that is nicely decorated, outstanding burrata with smoked tomato starter, wine pours are not generous, service attentive, overall an excellent experience - highly recommend.
Everything about this restaurant was top notch!! Can’t wait to go back! The food was so delicious and the wine list was excellent! We will definitely be back!!!
