Ma Po Tofu
soft tofu sautéed with bell peppers, black fungus, celery, and mushrooms in a spicy sauce
Crispy Baby Squab
whole squab roasted to a crispy skin served with seasoning salt
Imperial Peking Duck
marinated duck roasted to a crispy skin, served with steamed buns, scallion, and hoisin sauce
The atmosphere here is true China town. Very authentic and fun energy.
Food was just meh. We were looking for authentic Chinese but instead dishes were overly sauced - with what tasted like a bottled mix. The chicken wings were disturbingly large making the diner wonder the size of the chicken or bird.
Garlic noodles were a sure and delicious bet.
Great food and excellent service!!
Service was very slow and two dishes never arrived.
Food was great and the restaurant has a lot of sitting. Nice ambiance
Odd name but great food. Nice selection of dim sum. Best Mapo tofu I’ve had in a long time. This is my go to Chinese restaurant when I’m in the city.
Definitely overpriced for what you get. The food was decent but not particularly memorable.
We've been trying to find a good option in Chinatown for years now, and this place fits the bill. Every dish was delicious, we ordered 4 dishes for 3 of us and ate every crumb. An excellent option for quality Chinese food, close to North Beach.
Very poor service and low quality food. Not very friendly staff
Most authentic we have ever tried, fresh ingredients and friendly staff. Portions are small though; we’ve always thought that Asian portions were always large. Good luck finding parking
Waiting to be seated was a bit chaotic. Write your name on sign in sheet but people were not being seated in any particular order. I made reservation on open table which seemed to be key to getting seated quickly. All staff friendly just a very busy and loud environment. Food was delicious.
Even with a reservation the wait was a little long typical of a Saturday evening. The food was "yummy" brought to the table in a sleepy manner. All in all, it was a positive experience.
Not sure why they are available for opentable reservations as they don’t even have a computer. We showed up at pur reservation time only to be added to a list on paper. We waited around 30 min for a table
Absolutely amazing dim sum and the Peking duck was insane it was so good
Food was good. Server was rushing us to eat and get out it seemed. May have been the language barrier but still. Did t feel very welcome. He disappeared for a while when he realized we weren’t quite ready to leave.
Better places to eat but this one was good and seemed “safe” for non residents.
Great Peking duck and soup dumplings
We had originally booked to go in later in the evening, but having walked far too much that day as we were passing we asked if we could be seated earlier, which they were more than happy to do. The excellent service continued throughout and the food is simply gorgeous. Highly recommended.
Great food, for a great price. Ambiance it's not too cozy, but hey
Great food! Nice clean place, easy to find and overall good experience!
Our first trip from UK to San Francisco and this Chinese was fabulous. Good service good food and plenty of it.
Will be back as soon as we can.
As a recommendation from the Club at the Ritz Carlton, we were looking forward to an authentic San Francisco Chinatown experience and Begoni does not disappoint. Super busy and super delicious. Nothing fancy, just good food and great memories.
First time here and I will go back. They do a great job with traditional dishes and not using too much oil. The friends I took there are vegetarians and they have a decent variety of options for that - more than a lot of Chinese dim sum places. The MaPo Tofu is delish and the pea sprouts with garlic were perfectly done. Had veggie dumplings and buns and even samosas — all tasty! I enjoyed the ambiance too. Looks and feels modern and clean. The service was terrific too!
Food was excellent and service was pretty good. They are not good about honoring reservations, so there was a long wait. After that, it was a good experience. The dumplings were special as was the crispy squab.
Fantastic food. Great service. FANTASTIC VALUE!!!
Wonderful dim sum dinner
Great place for large parties. It is more of a modern restaurant, with bright lights. Good food, place was crowded, good indication of good food. We were late in arriving, we called and they held our reservation. When we arrived no waiting our table was set up. Very nice.
We were visiting from Houston - food was great!! Service was attentive but not to on top of you.
Quality and tasty food in SF Chinatown. Took a party of 8 for dinner and had a great time. The menu was authentic, the food definitely higher quality than you’d find in most Chinatown restaurants, and the preparations flavorful, well prepared, and presented. We ordered a complete meal, from soup through fish and noodles, and enjoyed it all family style. The only negative was the noise. The restaurant needs something on the ceiling or floor to dampen the noise a bit, we could hardly hear one another! Even with the noise, we will visit again, just not at the height of dinner rush.
The food was pretty good but the restaurant was understaffed for a full house on a Saturday night. They also reported us a "no-show" to Open Table - not very professional.
In from out of town and checked both open table and Yelp reviews. Didn’t disappoint and was probably the best Chinese we’ve had and it differed from Chicago style. Generous size portions. Would highly recommend and come back. One of the nicer settings with bar and very clean (other than floor very sticky) based on others we walked by. Communication barrier and service slow but we weren’t in a hurry. All in all pleased.
This place is a winner. They could dim the lights a little to improve ambience. Family friendly. Lots of food which comes out hot and fairly quick. Everything was perfectly prepared. Lots of variety at times hard to choose.
Peking duck is not made peking style. It just roast duck, with Peking duck price. Salt and pepper shrimp were served with the shells and head still in tacked. Not a dish if you want to have while enjoying a conversation amongst friends. Steam rice was dry and not fluffy. How can you call yourself a Chinese restaurant if you can not make fluffy rice? Our water was never filled, we had constantly wave the waiter down. Chopsticks were not clean. Dim sum were tasty. May go back for the dim sum only, but not for dinner. The price is bit higher that most restaurants in the same caliber.
Disappointing based on other reviews.
No one on the staff was very happy. The food was average. The seating was hard. Given the reviews I thought it would be much better. It was just average.
Loved the food
Really enjoyed this meal. The language barrier create service which wasn’t perfect, but that ended up being part of the fun.
The food was a traditional Americanized-Chinese, but it was a very good version of that cuisine. I would go back.
Tiger prawns were difficult due to them being fried shell-on. Everything else was top notch.
This restaurant was recommended to me by a friend. It didn't disappoint! The food and service were great and it was only a few blocks from the theatre we were attending.
Found cooked fly on a dumpling plate.
