Briggs Kitchen + Bar
Ordered macchiato off their menu and was told they don’t do them. Food was decent, service was clumsy and sloppy. Very laid back, not very informative or friendly. Doors were locked 5 minutes after open, had to call in to get them unlocked.
Been to Briggs before, not sure if an off day or if quality has dropped as it’s been a while. Won’t be returning for another while after this experience.
Had the short rib, the potato pancake was amazing! Loved the Reverse Manhattan cocktail as well.
I was there for NYE with my partner and in-laws. The calamari and daily soup were really flavourful. I think the soup was carrot and something. I ordered the hanger steak as my main and the flavour of the steak, potatoes, broccoli and gravy were good but the steak was a bit cold and I was surprised by how small the steak was considering the $28.00 price tag. Next time I will not get the hanger steak but will be back to try other items on the menu. The lemon tart was also really good!
Salmon undercooked for 2 people. Not enough bread for the fondue. Waiter spilled tea on the table. Our table of 4 was to close to a table of 10. Short rib was fatty. Sorry
Menu is great but food is pricey. Service was slow
The restaurant boasts a vibrant energetic urban vide - the average age of the guests seemed to be late 20's - early 30's. It was definitely noisy - if you want an uptempo time with a group of friends and don;t mind shouting, it's great. Don't go here if you want a quiet, romantic meal. There were a few large parties in the house and staff seemed almost frantic to keep up. Food was good with one exception: I ordered the Briggs Paella Royale - the menu stated it included saffron rice, chorizo, chicken, prawns, squid and peas. If you are hoping for a classic Paella, this is not it: the rice was white (suggesting a lack of adequate saffron) and the overall flavor was definitely lackluster - if there was any chorizo, I didn't see it. As one of the higher priced items on the menus, it was NOT worth the price. Two of the others with us had the Pappardelle - it was extremely good. Access to parking was great.
Office Christmas dinner. We were pleasantly surprised to get a nice private room for our group; despite being in a room, we still felt a part of the restaurant because of glass. Lots of positive energy in the restaurant and everyone seeming to have a good time. We just all shared, family style; ordered several appetizers and plates and of course the Tomahawk steak. Food was great. Flavourful.
Our server was good; but busy? Could’ve seen a bit more attention, but it was definitely not neglect.
One negative was the hard to find parking..but downtown, right?
Overall a great experience and great night out. Will definitely be back again.
I felt disappointed with my experience at Briggs. It was noisy. We waited 25 minutes before our server arrived at our table. The tables were squished together like sardines and I saw several people struggling to get out of their seats to get to the bathroom. Disappointing.
Fantastic food and service. Will be back for sure. The tagliatelle was unbelievable!
This was my second time to this restaurant. the first time i had the paella, and it was alright, but not very big. This time i had the short rib and it was fantastic! i will be coming back to this restaurant more often, just to have that!
First time checking this spot out and won’t be my last. Didn’t have an opportunity to try any food out, however the vibe was really nice and the price was reasonable!
This is my second visit to Briggs, and I'm equally frustrated with the amount of time it took to receive our order. I was there at lunch, which is when I expect the orders to be delivered more quickly, and we must have waited 20 minutes for our food. I had the halibut sandwich, and I found the batter to be heavy and very crispy. My friend's burger was very good, but I'm not sure if his food was hot, because mine was only warm. Not sure if it was the server who was slow to bring our food though. I may be back to sit on their outdoor patio in the summer to enjoy a cocktail and appy, but I won't be back for a full meal.
We are a couple of 33 year olds. This restaurant was apart of a weekend getaway into downtown Calgary.
we had a brilliant time. I really enjoyed the Oolong Lady drink.
We shared the Tomahawk steak. We did not bother with any side dishes, other than the Lobster Cream, AND LET ME TELL YOU, that stuff was good. Really delicious and creamy (the hint was in the name).
They don’t offer ketchup, HP or barbecue sauce. I state this purely as observation and not as a complaint at all. A steak as high quality as this one was shouldn’t be subject to such peasant condiments. Haha. I’m kind of joking but mostly serious. My fiancé is a dipper, so they did allow him some garlic aioli as well as the lobster cream.
The steak is served medium rare. As it does vary in thickness in the cut, they do offer to throw any parts that are too rare for your taste back on the grill.
They bring the steak out for you whole so that you can photograph it if you wish. Then return it to the chef so that he can slice it.
I should definitely mention that the meat on its own, sauce free, was sublime. I would recommend the tomahawk to the carnivore in all of us.
I can’t end this review without including how much I enjoyed our server. The oolong ladies have erased her name from my memory. But if the restaurant would like to identify her from my review, here are some clues- we had a reservation for Friday Oct. 25 at 17:30. Our server had blonde hair. She was very knowledgeable, attentive, had an excellent sense of humour and had a perfect level of presence at our table.
So kudos to her and the rest of the team at the restaurant! I hope to find my way back again soon.
Kitchen and server were out of sync regarding menu options, minor mistake this time.
The poutine is amazing. Burgers were well seasoned and we also got the mixed greens salad on the side which was great. Ambiance is everything here, great decor and space.
Our service was so great! The night I went there was the night my boyfriend asked me to marry him!! Our server then gave us dessert and Champaign on the house!! It was seriously the best night of my life and wouldn't have wanted it to go any other way...thank you Briggs for such an amazing night!!
We went for lunch on a Saturday afternoon and the restaurant was very quiet. The service - from Michael, as I recall - was exceptional. We ended up staying for a while and the restaurant started getting busy. The service remained excellent - checking on us without being intrusive.
The food was all good - we had two salads, a pasta dish, and another entree. All of the food was excellent and we all agreed we would need to come back to try more of the menu.
The front hostess was very helpful in our challenge with parking and providing suggestions.
although our original table placement was nice, i had requested to move to a different table and the staff was very pleasant and accommodating to us.
we shared a burger and glasses of wines, most places get a bit turned off when patrons want to share an order, your staff was more then happy with us.
we enjoyed the night, thank you
The menu was lacking a little. They took away on of my favorite dishes, it was a pesto spaghetti with shrimp and roasted pine nuts. Everything else was fabulous!
Disappointed with the food. My husbands steak was cooked well but absolutely no flavour. Not seasoned well. My paella was dry and over cooked. Parts of the rice and seafood were burnt. I did mention it to the waitress but she wasn’t too concerned about it. Did not receive any discounts.
A great get together before the hockey game. Loved the happy hour menu!
Very great food.
But it's service was not looks like professional
Good location and a nice restaurant. The service was very slow. And the bar was even slower. Maybe a bit understaffed for a Friday night?
Popped in for a nightcap and lemon tart, as it looked amazing in photos. Crust was soggy and the entire thing just melted and was overwhelming sweet. Felt ignored by staff trying to close and staff did not notice till the bill the desert was almost untouched.
To be fair our waitress offered to try to make it right at the end but it was to late, and we do not expect to go back.
Hope this was a one off, just wanted to warn people about showing up near closing time.
A wonderful meal with excellent food and a very efficient and at tentative server
First person to the restaurant 10 minutes prior to reservation time and got probably the worst table in the restaurant. And it got worse as they sat a table of 7 beside us and we could not hardly talk and be heard. There were many empty tables with views or some room. The lady beside us was sitting on the front of her chair and had it pushed back into the small walk space and we had a glass table as a barrier beside us so we could not hardly get out to go to the washroom. Service was not great but definitely not the worst I have had. Food was perfect- tasty fresh came warm to the table . Waiter did not know if there were specials or what was written on the chalkboard out front
Ambiance was good. Servers were friendly and nice. Ordered a steak but came with cold plate. Plate should’ve been warmed up before serving. Overall, nothing outstanding but nothing outrageous.
The food and service were very good, our only complaint is that it's pretty noisy in there and the tables were very close together where we sat so it felt like we were talking to the people on both sides of us and hearing their conversations too. But if you want good food and service, definitely recommended.
Went for brunch had the pierogies and the steak both were super flavorful and delicious
Our server was very good , personable, and knowledgeable.
The roast chicken was amazing and the service was very good
I had previously visited Briggs for dinner and as a meat lover, was quite impressed with their menu and taste.
On this particular occasion, I dined there for lunch. Right off the bat, our cutlery had food stuck to it, and was evident it hadn't been checked to ensure it had been properly cleaned. We notified the server, and had it switched.
The lunch menu seemed short and sweet. Our table tried the calamari (as recommended by the server), paella, and burger.
The calamari was quite chewy and lacked flavor. The paella was a very small portion and lacking the unique qualities that make paellas delicious. There was also a small hair in our paella that basically ruined the meal for me. I get it, it happens. But for the class of the restaurant, and following the cutlery incident, it was a complete loss for me to the point that we didn't even tell the server.
The burger was apparently amazing though. I recommend sticking to the meats if you go here.
You guys are great!
I ordered a side of mayo with my fries. You guys don’t mess around with your mayo portions. Thanks for getting my mayo:fries ratio right on the first time.
Mayo is the best condiment out there and is important to my enjoyment of fries. It drives me nuts when I have to order and second and sometime third portion of mayo with my fries.
Service and food was great.
We had the server with the baby man-bun not the big one.
At first we were confused but he cleared that up.
They set my girlfriend up with a free chocolate cake for her birthday. She doesn’t like chocolate cake that much. But I do! Guess it’s a good thing I’m writing this review!
You’re probably wondering if this is a serious review. It is. Thanks for taking care of us <3
Quiet table, excellent food, prompt service. Excellent location for client lunch.
Food great, server must have been new
The food was excellent and our server was great. Tomahawk steak was so tasty.
Our server was amazing. He was very attentive, friendly & helpful. The lobster poutine was delicious. Overall a very enjoyable experience.
Really happy with the ambiance and the food. Our server was excellent today - super professional!
We were disappointed in our meal. It was cold and dry
I enjoyed a nice tomahawk steak there with my guest from Korea who was passing through on her holiday through western Canada.
Good steak, quite a novelty. Our server, who I believe was Lynn was absolutely superb.
