Café Boulud has elevated traditional French bistro food to a whole new level. All of the familiar items are there - steak-frites, poulet-roti, duck confit, etc. but done in a gourmet style. The service is impeccable - attentive without being over-bearing. Nice wine list, often featuring flights. Dessert are good, especially the soufflé, which is worth the wait. A great place for a special celebration.
We felt a little ignored. Service was slow, I believe from a power outage. The food was great as always.
Love it! Always is a pleasure to be there
Cafe Boulud is a good restaurant but very expensive. Dinner for two with a basic wine was $350 pluck txs. It is good for special occasions. The restaurant is not cozy or romantic, real basic decor. In fact I found it cold.
Their summer menu is very good, daily specials and all. My partner had a Dover sole, and I had a rib-eye, both were excellent.
Our desserts, souffle Grand Marnier and Ontario strawberry millefeulle, were excellent, we both enjoyed thoroughly.
We had to convert US currency to CAD, and Maitre D was very courteous as always, as I remember him from our previous visits to the Cafe Boulud.
Menu selection in general is better, with classic staples, not just Lyon specialties that are too heavy for us.
I used to love the food, they used to have the best french toast in town, I think the chef has changed and everything was very average, nothing special as it used to be. A little disappointed.
It's surprising that Daniel Boulud would attach his name to this restaurant. Ordinary food in an ordinary setting with ordinary (or sometimes less than ordinary) service. Even their specialty, the rotisserie chicken was overcooked and dry.
Waiter was very rude. Seemed upset st something. Also there was a group in the restaurant just. Aside us and they were standing and making speeches. I eat at the restaurant all the time and it was well below the normal experience. Services was really poor.
Amazing, inventive food, impeccable services. Couldn't have asked for a better experience. Would highly recommend!
Really lovely ambience, and service was incredible - our server Alan was such a professional and an absolute delight. I was disappointed with the shrimp cocktail because it had an odd flavour, yellowing and was not properly deveined which was a surprise, but everything else was quite good!
A delicious meal with many creative elements. Smaller portion sizes are normal at higher quality restaurants but the lamb pushed that boundary a little too far. Calamari, lamb, tenderloin, and both deserts were all delicious.
Service and food were excellent
Incredible food and service. Danny was a wonderful waiter
The occasion was a birthday dinner for my wife.
It was a Wednesday evening, so the restaurant was not full and the noise level was fine.
As a starter, my wife and I shared the mousse de foie. It was superb.
For her main course my wife ordered the seared scallops, while I ordered the duck confit.
We both were very pleased with the taste and the presentation.
The service was prompt and professional.
All in all, a lovely evening.
We came to your summerlicious event hoping the standard will be like the old Four Seasons of Toronto but unfortunately it was not the same standard. The food and the service left a lot to be desired.
The Vichyssoise was very good but the salmon and eggs was giving it a fishy taste. Our waiter was good but his helper seemed untrained. They did not know who ordered what and were serving the gents before the ladies. The main course was fine but the dessert was not so good that two of us left it unfinished.
We will be coming back!! Loved everything and can't wait to taste more
Cafe Boulud is billed as one of this cities top places to eat but is really just an overpriced bistro with over wrought food impersonating some kind of elevated bistro experience and largely failing. Nothing I ate was “bad” or gross or poorly prepared but none of it was particularly impressive or memorable. Also the servers were on top of us the entire time giving the feel that they were trying to flip tables as fast as possible despite the dining area being 50-70% empty the whole time we were there. We actually had to ask them to wait on the dessert twice. Toronto has a ton of great eats but places like this are pretentious let downs that cater to the bourgeoisie.
Even for summerlicious, they delivered a high level of food quality, taste, as well as service. You can tell that every dish was meticulously thought out. The only slight negative was that the menu description of let's say vichyssoise was not described as a soup. If you are not familiar with that French term, it would be impossible to discern from the menu that it was a soup. However, the waiter did explain it later on. Overall, highly recommend.
We were provided with a side room, very comfortable. Service was impeccable and we had a most enjoyable evening!
Great experience! We sitter at the bar, the bartender was polite and knowledgeable about the drinks. My friend n I were really enjoyed
The finest restaurant I have eaten in here in Toronto. Exquisite!
Assembly line faux "fine dining" with good "looking" plates churned out quickly for large numbers of diners packed into a space that is efficient, but--like the food, uninspired. Their NYC location is far superior, and when (as he ran the bill) a manager bothered to inquire and was told as much he had no reply and just walked away; recommend you do the same from this establishment without bothering to eat here!
Appreciate the great value of the summerlicious menu and the professional service.
Good for kids
Excellent service! Very tasty options and presentation was beautiful!
Went for summerlicious, appetizers were fantastic - especially the salad dressing encapsulated in small potable bubbles! Fries that came with the steak were a bit questionable, but service and ambience were top notch!
Amazing dining experience. Beautiful enviromemt and the food was A++. Every single dish tasted smazing and it felt like a 5 star experience.
Fantastic experience! Menu selection was amazing, food was delicious, service and ambiance great!
Food, drinks and service were excellent. Noise level made it very difficult to carry on a conversation. Perhaps some baffling could be implemented.
The food is impeccable, but the service half hearted.
We had lunch during Summerlicous, which I understand can be a little busy. Most of the items were from the regular lunch menu, and were all terrific (vichyssoise is best in the city).
However, we were a late lunch and the restaurant was half full. Service was measured, but at times very slow. We waited over ten minutes with set aside menus to order our drinks/lunch, and ordered food and wine at the same time. Our appetizers arrived and were almost finished by the time the waiter showed up with the wine. Similarly the plates for both the appetizers and mains sat dirty and finished for longer than I have ever experienced at a top restaurant. They weren’t cleared until the next course arrived.
This would never happen at Scaramouce, Alo, Auberge or the other top restaurants; and let down the experience.
We have eaten here before, and the service is usually better.
This is an elegant French restaurant in the heart of Yorkville. I had the watermelon/beet salad to start. Even though I am not a fan of goat cheese, I enjoyed the salad. I had fish as my main course and it was seared to perfection and flavourful. I had the chocolate/mocha dessert. Simply delicious. Everything was presented nicely and the service was excellent.
The food and service were superb. The ambience was ver ordinary and the lighting distracted from any elegance that was designed into the space. They need to dial back on th bright lights. The reception was cool but efficient.
It’s never a great experience when a restaurant seats a solo diner in the worst table in the restaurant.
We celebrated three birthdays. We didn’t indicate that it was a special occasion, but our server figured it out!
Beautiful venue, great Summerlicious menu
Service was a touch on the overbearing side (too attentive), we got asked how our meal was by over 10 people, and multiple times across some servers which was very kind but it kept interrupting our meal during some serious conversation!
I was disappointed in the very casual dress of a number of the diners - sweat pants and ripped shorts. To me, this restaurant is a bit of an occasion place. There were quite a few dinners dressed in clothes that significantly detracted from this ambiance. I believe some level of dress should be enforced - smart casual.
The food was delicious and our server was attentive.
Great service and excellent food!!
