Cafe de la Presse
Great food! Lovely place and the breakfast was terrific!
Had the quiche Lorraine and side salad. Always s great luncheon choice.
Love this place!!!
We had great service from Dave!!!
Truly authentic French cafe cuisine - that is outstanding. Been coming to CdlP since it opened. Love!
Staff bit too confident and impersonal. Great venue. Food good.
A bit of a wait for the table I reserved but otherwise everything was good.
Always a lovely place to dine, morning, afternoon and evening.
Had a problem with my entree. I advised server that I did not want any cream sauce on my pasta and it came loaded with sauce. Entree on menu said penne and mushrooms with arugula pesto. It came as a heavy sauce - with a lot of cheese on top. I am vegan and expected to see pasta with a green pesto sauce. It was not as described on the menu!
Had a good time-we like the ambiance. Surprised to see few customers.
We had a very enjoyable meal. The food was good. The service was excellent and the ambiance was perfect for talking at our table. We ate in the dining room. There is also a cafe which looks more casual.
One of my all time favorite places to dine. I always come here when I'm in San Francisco.
Very simple and limited options menu. The food was just okay, but nothing to write home about or recommend to a friend.
Had both dinner and breakfast here.
Dinner was nice, food good, but way too salty! Please reduce. Steak quality was superb and exactly medium rare as ordered. Duck confit also great.
Breakfast was great. Good menu. Great espresso and so good cappuccino.
Big plus:they accept well-behaving dogs! Thanks.
Out on the town for a New Year’s Eve we had a reservation at 8 pm and we were greeted and taken to a table toute suite!! We were a little taken back by the server who lead us to a very small table on the path from the kitchen and dropped our menus on the table and took off. We stood there looking around for another option and when she happened to breeze by we asked if we could move to another table close by. No problem, but still close to that path. As we settled in a matire d’ appeared and asked, “have you ordered yet?”We replied, “not yet!” and he said..., ..”let me see if we can find you a better spot.”Please note... we had not complained nor were we disgruntled. We were amazed by the thoughtful recognition by him that we were dressed up for the occasion and that he ‘got’ it. This kind gesture alone warrants 5 stars for sure as he took us off to the other side of the dining room to seat us at a cozy table for two in a much more festive and private setting. We had the same waitress who had seated us initially who was kind and doing her best... just appeared to have a little more than she could handle and possibly just inexperienced, but as the evening progressed and her load lightened she did a great job as did the other servers and buss people. Our food was excellent! For a special occasion night which often places kitchen staff in the “weeds” and sometimes causes food to suffer the consequences there were no signs of a disorganized kitchen. We had one a la carte item (escargot!)and the two course Prix fixed menu for $35 which was an amazing deal with each course served with perfection— piping hot and beautiful. Truly impressive. Although the kitchen closed down at 9 there was no rush at anytime to speed up our meal or for us to leave. With one other couple we closed the dining room down amidst best wishes for a Happy New Year. Thanks Cafe de la Presse for a memorable and enjoyable New Year’s Eve dinner.
We had a very pleasant breakfast at Cafe de la Presse. We plan to return for sure.
Seated quickly, nice ambience on Christmas day, and waitress was very friendly with saying hello and giving a menu.
Slightly lacking in attentiveness on taking our order, we had to wait a while to order drinks - we were the first in the restaurant for dinner.
No-one suggested we could hang our coats.
Two other people seated right next to us even though the rest of the restaurant was empty.
Food was nicely presented with delicious bread and wine. Quite expensive overall but it was SanFransisco!
Lobster bisque was incredibly delicious. Service started out with a bang and disappeared by the entree. desert was just ok. Entree tasty.
Great place for family gatherings. I brought my daughter here on Christmas Day and she enjoyed the food and warm ambiance.
Have lunch and/or dinner . I expected dinner to be above average. Instead it was superb. The best duck confit I have ever had in the U.S. And the starter crab salad was excellent
Every year my daughters and have lunch here before shopping and as a traditional day, we can always count on our place being spot on with service and food. Thank you.
Omelet had been sitting around for a while. Dry toast.
Had a great time with family for Christmas week visit to SF. Highly recommend it.
Café de la Presse is a perfect place for a special occasion or business dinner. We had several holiday parties near us but there were also families, like ours, having an evening out. Last evening we ordered some of the best dishes available: escargots (delicate not chewy), curried moules frite (spectacular!), roast duck breast (so OMG that I dream about it frequently), and the frissé salad (that poached egg and vinaigrette!). The quality has remained consistent for the last 20+ years that I’ve been coming. I love this restaurant.
Love this place. Great cocktails, fun bar scene, good comfort food, great atmosphere. It’s like taking a mini European vacation. One of the best and most reasonable options for Union Square dining.
Service was inattentive and inconsistent. Food was so so.
This is a perfect place to meet prior to shopping in Union Square. Not super crazy and easy to get to. We had brunch, splitting an omelette and almond croissant. Both were delicious. They were quick to get us coffee yet slow to take our order and when we asked it was a bit like we were annoying them. Then they forgot the croissant. I would certainly dine with them again but the attitude could be a bit more happy and positive. Good value for the $.
Service was slow
I would definitely recommend, but it was a little chilly in the cafe.
Wonderful French feel, much like bistro or brasserie. Service a tad bit slow but friendly. Prices average for San Francisco. But food was very good to excellent.
I was just in Paris this year and especially loved this restaurant’s ability to bring the Paris charm to San Francisco.
Salade Niçoise was not quite as good as I remember but meal was OK.
Food was exquisite. Ingredients were top quality and extremely fresh.
Nice atmosphere, good good Blair exceptional- staff good a sure bet for a morning meeting
Every time that I visit San Francisco, I look forward to dinner at Cafe de la Presse and having my favorite meal, duck confit. It was wonderful as always.
Perfect place to go for my 84th! My mussel entree was outstanding & others loved the pot pie. I prefer a berry dessert but creme brûlée was delicious
Suggested by a friend and did not disappoint. Good brunch food. Got a reservation the day before.
Had special birthday dinner at Cafe de la Presse on Saturday night. The ambiance was absolutely perfect - dim lighting and lovely holiday decorations. The food was fabulous too ... and great service. We'll definitely return soon as we loved our experience. Brunch looks grand here too.
Great ambience, like going to Paris and visiting a Bistro.
The restaurant is beautiful but the breakfast menu was very limited and the food was just mediocre at best. Nothing special or "French" at all.
We love Cafe de la Presse! I need to dine there more often to enjoy all the yummy menu items!!
They forgot the meal for our 4th person. Place was not crowded but they had a hard time being attentive to guest
