We were looking for a place to have lunch with some old friends who came up from SoCal on vacation. We wanted an outdoor option within walking distance of their hotel (the Marriott) and Cafe Fina fit the bill. Everyone had the clam chowder, which was pitch perfect. Entrees were fish and chips, judged to be about perfect; and the burrata salad, which featured a perfectly ripe, yellow, heirloom tomato with creamy burrata, balsamic and olive oil dressing and anchovies on the side! Beautiful! Wait staff was friendly and helpful. Would definitely recommend.
Huge portions but so delicious that I almost ate it all!
Roxanne was fantastic! We couldn’t have had better service. Food was excellent especially the shrimp scampi! Will go back again.
The food, service and location were outstanding. Would be regulars if we didn't live 2400 miles west!
Nice restaurant, friendly servers, outdoor seating in the shade. Note, the vegetable paella on their website is not on the printed menu at lunch. They said they could still make it but it is cooked with chicken stock. The vegetable pizza was good though.
This is a locals place on a tourist wharf. Easy to walk right by it. I recommend you don’t! We enjoyed the best waitress (Roxanne) and the most delicious food. You’ve had a Caprese Salad before, no doubt, but not like his one. Gorgeous, huge orange beefsteak tomato, the freshest buratta cheese (like it was just made in Italy), with fresh herbs with EVOO and balsamic. UNREAL! My wife had local fresh Abalone and I had blue fin tuna over Orzo pasta, the best cooked Orzo I have ever tasted, it was light and fluffy. On the way out I said to owner, I’m embarrassed I’ve never been here. He said where you been on Mars. I guess I have been, but no more.
Our first time and the food was phenomenal! Best paella I have had in a very long time! The caprese with the heirloom tomatoes from the owners yard were to die for! We Brought our favorite wine and corkage was only $20!
Awesome! Very good food and friendly staff
The smoked salmon pizza was definitely the best wood oven pizza I have had. All of the dishes were amazing and the server was very friendly.
Just picked this restaurant on our way home and it didn’t disappoint, first time to have Pistachio Pesto Penni, so yummy and I’m not a pasta person. All the staff are really nice and attentive to our needs for a tiny restaurant it’s like fine dining.
Food and service were excellent, small intimate dining room and were made to feel very welcomed by staff.
The place was wonderful, sitting inside with views of the water. The service provided by Roxanne was the best we’ve experienced anywhere. She is knowledgeable about the various types of fish and extremely friendly. The food was excellent with fresh fish and vegetables. You can tell they love cooking food! We would highly recommend this for anyone who loves Italian food and fresh fish.
The fresh tomato and mozzarella salad special was epic!! We also had the fresh seared tuna which was prepared perfectly. Will definitely come back!
Dominic and his Cafe Fina team bring an extra level of farm to table freshness and flavor that is hard to best. Wonderfully prepared Caprese salad with his own garden grown beef steak tomatoes combined with a unique balsamic and basil based dressing complemented with ever so fresh mozzarella made this dish a hit. As well as the Prawns and Pistachio Pesto are to die for. Capped off with homemade peach cobbler hot of their 600 degree oven with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Got to get back here as soon as possible. Thanks Dominic and Cafe Fina team for a truly wonderful dinner!
As the lady who was in charge of our table was so kind and cheerful, we really enjoyed our dinner time in our restaurant. Of course, all the dishes including desert we had were delicious.
I went for lunch on a Saturday. The service was top-notch, the food was incredibly delicious, and the portions were hearty. The view from our table was lovely. I highly recommend Cafe Fina. Oh and the bread........so soft and warm!
Service was professional, but pretty slow and the food was fairly bland. I so wanted to like this place.
Delightful evening. Hostess greeted us and had our table or rather John Madden's table ready. Our waiter was exceptionally good and paced our meal with the kitchen perfectly. Roasted garlic and clams as an appetizer were a great start. Halibut special and Cioppino were both excellent. We were pleasantly surprised with this gem sitting in the midst of a tourist spot. The owner Dominic was a quite a conversationalist and we enjoyed our visit with him. We will return next time we're in Monterrey.
Very good view through the large windows in late afternoon. Good chowder and crab cakes. Very happy.
The food is outstanding. No complaints there. However, the kitchen was very slow the night we were there. It took over half an hour just to get our salads, and the main courses didn't come out for over 20 min. after the salads had been cleared away. There was only one waitress to serve an entire room of at least 10 tables. She did her best, though, and was very friendly and professional. Not her fault the kitchen was backed up.
I'd consider trying Cafe Fina again, but not on a Saturday night at the height of tourist season.
We had a wonderful dinner.
We hope Cafe Fina can soon open up to full capacity…… when they get fully staffed.
Come on people get back to work!
There were rambunctious young boys seated nearby and it was distracting and irritating while trying to enjoy our meal. Our server was prompt, attentive and kind. My lobster was delicious but my daughter had the halibut and it was extremely salty… she was choking it down and I tasted it too… tasted like the salt had been poured on the fish.
We were in a section by windows overlooking water
About 6 PM. There were 5 tables & 14 guests, all of whom chose the site for water view. Things were great & as the sun was setting with more light coming in, the waiter closed the shade half way so everyone could still have a view. A bit later, the manager came in & dropped the shade completely despite requests from 5 tables to leave it as it was. His reply was, “ It gets too warm”. Despite several requests to leave the view, all from visitors, who chose the location for the view, he remained unchangeable about the shade. Our conclusion was that the increased air conditioning costs were more important to him than the dining experience & return customers. 😔. We will not go back.
Went for our anniversary. The restaurant is great. The owner greeted us and also stopped by our table later. The service was exceptional.
The food was superb and the service was fantastic. Everything is made in house and you can tell. Definitely worth a visit. We will be back our next time in Monterey.
We made a reservation for last Saturday night to celebrate our friends 42nd anniversary. They came to town to visit and celebrate. We requested a window seat on the special request section of the open table site. We also stated that we were celebrating our friends anniversary. When we arrived they did not seat us at a window seat and when we asked the hostess she did not even know about the request. Also they never recognized our friends anniversary. Very disappointing, why have the special request on your site if the restaurant doesn't seem to read it. Other than that the food was good and we had a nice time with our friends.
Thank you for taking care of us ... can't wait to see you at Cache Creek Casino again some day!
This place was great! Do not let the outside fool you! This isn’t just some touristy nonsense! We started with the roasted Gilroy garlic and it was nothing less than amazing. Main courses were fish and chips (yum!!) and the halibut in a white wine sauce. This fish was so delicate and tasty! The highlight was our dessert made with pluots grown in the owners yard. This personal touch was so unexpected and it was incredibly tasty. Start to finish a great meal!
Great food and great service. Definitely would go again.
This our go to place when we go to Monterey for pleasure and business. Dominic and his staff are consistently wonderful. Looking forward to getting there again soon!
Loved it. Homemade food for a good price
Quality meal and service.
4 travelers to Monterey, looking for a pleasant Italian/seafood restaurant. Between us we had calamari, shrimp scampi, cioppino, paella and all were very well prepared and delicious. All arrived at the table hot and fresh. Dessert bread pudding, cannoli, creme brûlée we’re all quite good. 4 people with wine, appetizer, 4 entrees and 4 desserts was about $50 per person overall plus tip. The cost was worth the value of the meal.
Fishermans’ wharf has even less charm than San Francisco’s Pier 39, but the interior of the restaurant downstairs was upscale, cozy, but not tight. It was also nice not to have to deal with the traffic zoo of Cannery Row. $5 parking lot made it easy. Service staff at the restaurant were pleasant and professional.
We all agreed that we’d return to Cafe Fina again.
Great service and food.
Very friendly host and owner.
Easy to find, friendly greeting, seated promptly. Husband ordered the Gianna Pasta which was a huge portion, tasty sauce, fantastic! I ordered their salmon with risotto and vegetables. Probably the best salmon I’ve ever had in a restaurant. Owner came by and said it’s delivered daily, fresh off the boat. Highly recommend.
The food was good.. what we did not appreciate was a party of 4 was sat next to us with their dog. I don’t like animals near my food when I am eating. If we would have known, we wouldn’t have chosen to eat there! In addition, the servers were rushing around. We ordered our drinks and then asked for bread. The waiter said he would bring us bread only after we ordered. We noticed that every other table received bread as soon as they were seated!
We ate here for a very special dinner (it was honeymoon, first father's day, and my wife's birthday all at once). The food was absolutely incredible and the service was great. My wife was pregnant and the staff made sure her fish was prepared safely. I have celiac's disease and the staff made sure my food was prepared free from gluten cross-contamination. Highly, highly recommend!
This is my family’s second time to eat at Cafe Fina and it did not disappoint! The environment, food, and service were excellent.
Delicious! Jorge was fantastic, the pasta was delicious and you just get the pomegranate spritz!!
