Grilled Lamb Chops Bordelaise
In Garlic Butter and Lemon Sauce
Excellent service. Waiter staff very attentive and friendly. Great value and dishes were prepared perfectly.
Kitchen was overwhelmed so service suffered. Even though we had reservations it took some time to be seated. Staff was harried. But food was worth the wait. Veal piccata excellent.
We have eaten here many times, and the food is always outstanding. This visit started off badly, because we had reserved at what turned out to be a peak time. Our outdoor patio seating was incredibly noisy, and they switched us to a elevated outdoor space nearer the highway. We had traded noisy conversation for Porsch roar and so we requested to be moved indoors. It was more quiet there, and as the meal wore on most of the tables cleared. As always, our meal was outstanding.
Next time, we will reserve for what the restaurant suggested as off-peak times and recommend you do too.
Basque family style. Excellent food, soup, salad, bread, wine. The night we were there was busy, and, as with many restaurants, there was no surplus of help. Staff hustled, and every thing went well.
Fabulous outdoor dining with large menu to choose from. Excellent value since entrees come with fresh soup of the day, potato leek last night and salad. We started with a nice twist on a lemon drop cocktail - a lavender lemon drop - delicious. Will definitely meet up with friends again for dinner tucked into a quiet neighborhood.
As always, a great experience. I love this traditional restaurant. I’m always welcomed as a friend and the service is great. I love the food, especially the sand dabs.
Food excellent. Setting comfortable. Service attentive even though they were busy.
This restaurant has a beautifully executed menu served by a knowledgeable and friendly waitstaff in a beautiful setting. We are frequent patrons and are never disappointed.
fresh well cooked meal at a reasonable price, pleasant outdoor seating
We were seated at a table next to a hedge located next to San Pedro Road... Noisy! Service was slow. Server needs to be instructed regarding how to pour wine. Food was, as usual, good.
Lovely atmosphere. Great service. Very tasty food. We've been dining here for years and have brought friends, celebrated special occasions, and have never been disappointed.
The staff are really friendly and service is good. Great patio for dining outdoors. The food is OK - not great and not bad. I think they could diversify the side dishes for the main courses - rice and a minute serving of overcooked vegetables are the choice.
When we sat down our waiter told us the kitchen was closing, and we had to order immediately. Maybe we should have left, but we stayed. It turned out to be a rather rushed experience. This was our first visit for dinner, and were wondering, WHY WOULD YOU TAKE RESERVATIONS FOR 8 pm WHEN THE KITCHEN CLOSES AT 8?
Margarita refreshing Minestrone delish salad scrumptious luv dressing NY steak (& house red) & those wonderful potatoes gratin! & veggies flan 🍮 Sooo busy indoors & outdoors! Sooo nice to be greeted by Patrick!
A group of longtime friends from high school got together for a celebration. We had a blast: We sat outside on a Sunday evening and it was amazingly beautiful - weather wise.
The food was delicious the people were kind and friendly and we were there from 6 PM until they asked us to leave at 10 when it looked like they were just about to shut the door for the night!
I have not eaten here since I was a kid with my parents. The menu was large the food was delicious and the experience with simply above reproach!
We cannot wait to go back!!!
I love this place and frequently introduce other Bay Area residents to it. Basque cuisine may not be for everyone (especially vegetarians!), but I really enjoy the distinctive and quirky experience the Chalet provides. Nice to have soup and salad served with every entree. Even though they had a full house (or, rather, a full patio), we received very good service. We were feeling a little too full for dessert, but we were treated to the perfect little bit of sweetness, on the house, to close out our meal.
With a lot of Bay Area restaurants now starting to include obnoxious caveats when you make a reservation - "You are allowed to be at your table for 90 minutes..." - I applaud Chalet Basque for its generous hospitality. We dined in a relaxed, European fashion for almost three hours.
Keep up the great work, friends!
The food is amazing and Linda was incredible as our server.
We enjoyed the food for the most part. It’s standard fare, nothing fancy or innovative. The potato leek soup was thin and salty, the salad was basic. My veal piccata was good and more meat than I could eat. Prices have gone up from what I recall from previous visits… but that seems to be the norm everywhere now. Regarding the service, we both noted how quickly the servers move about and almost toss your food at you. Not much finesse. But then again, maybe they are understaffed like so many other businesses and everyone is rushing because they have to. I’d say it’s good, but not extraordinary.
A lovely little out-of-the-way escape with a beautiful outdoor patio. Old school service and delicious food at affordable prices. The poached salmon was heavenly!
Very charming place to eat. Loved the whole dinkng experience
Love this place. Ambience, food, dependability, service all
the best and it is a privately held local place. Good people all
around who have done a beautiful of keeping it simple and yet so
Had an early dinner with the family for hubby’s 69th b-day. Hostess moved us out of the sun to the shade without asking, spoke slower and louder for my 92 year old father in law, was flexible with our wide range of ages, eating speeds and dietary needs. Food tasted great, candle in the desert and overall good wine, good food and good price. Easy to get to, parking is limited. We travels from the east bay and I’d do it agin.
Excellent service, delicious food (lamb shank, lamb chops, chicken cordon bleu), very popular Saturday night.
It was so hot in the restaurant I was sweating (I wasn't the only one btw), it needed air badly. I would have sat outside but there was no room...
Service was pretty slow last night. Maybe, like most restaurants right now, they didn't have enough help. Food was wonderful, as usual. Our server, Linda, was great.
I have been to Chalet Basque many times over the years and for pick up during COVID
Last night was a disappointment. I think they were just having an "off" night so was disappointed in the food.
This has always been our "go to" place. They have their old menu on line that has wonderful choices but the menu at the was limited and boring. My food was almost inedible. My husband ordered a steak rare and it came overcooked.
We won't be going back.
I have eaten here for many years. While it is not "Fine Dining", it is always good, and a great value
This was the first time we have eaten dinner at Chalet Basque. What a happy atmosphere as people finally get to comfortably go out to have dinner. Very good service and the food was excellent. We had Sand Dabs which we hardly find on restaurant menus. Definitely coming back.
Always great and lovely to sit outside on a beautiful night with friends
Regarding the food Nothing really special for us
it is nice to sit outside and quite the service wasn't ok the waiter was nice but always in a hurry though he didn't even stay to hear if we need coffee after we ordered the dessert I had to stop him plus he didn't bring back the dessert menu he told us the desserts verbally fast and he was waiting for us to make the decision instantly I forgot half of them after he finished I understand they are busy but at the same time I am going there to enjoy my dinner and relax and not to feel I have to order with a gun on my head
Everything was great!!!
Excellent sand dabs and all else was well prepared! Was sat in back dining room which needs a little help to have a more pleasant ambiance.
Excellent food. Pleasant setting. Very nice staff.
Such rude people working at check in and we had reservations. We were completely ignored as they helped other “regulars” who would walk in after us and seat them first. If you value yourself skip this place because the food is mediocre and the service is appalling. The dining room was uncomfortably hot and there were no fans or A/C to moderate the temperature. The menu was extremely limited and the food was poor quality.
We miss Roger but glad it is all in the family! We miss the peppercorn sauce & the decorative red pepper on scalloped potatoes! Thank you for the lovely watercress soup, def one of our faves. The generous blue cheese crumbles on my salad. The delicious NY steak & scalloped potatoes (never enough of those!) Had to save room for the best flan 🍮 in SR. Best margarita (& red wine) from Freddie! Thank you Linda our server & Diego. Miss seeing Patrick front of the house! Always Lorenzo’s pick on his bday, it’s become a tradition.
Grew up in Terra Linda, but never had the opportunity to dine at La Chalet Basque. Took my wife for an early dinner, were seated outside and enjoyed the ambiance. Dinner included soup and salad (soup was brought out in a terrine-piping hot), and a nice salad, as well. My wife had the Sand Dabs and I had the Roasted Chicken (both served piping hot). I was extremely impressed! We were going to skip dessert, but couldn't pass-up the Almond Cake. We had some soup leftover, and the host put it in a cup...and topped it off for us! Dinner, service and the whole experience was fabulous! We can't wait to return to try something else!
The food was wonderful and the Creme Caramel was one of the best I have ever eaten! We selected outdoor dining and became cold - not the fault of Chalet Basque; but diner beware that Golden Gate fogs reach many parts of Marin
As always, everything was delicious! Great job, Patrick and crew!!!
