Cluny is quite a favourite of mine and so i chose to have dinner here to celebrate a special birthday with family(5). There was no acknowledgement from staff that we were celebrating.
Our hostess was less than pleasant. She seemed inexperienced and did not greet us as we arrived. On leaving, she didnt offer a greeting either.
Our waiter was not friendly or engaging and came to our table with half his belly exposed.
The food was good and so too our cocktails.
Service was a big fail on this occasion
- Waitress did not know the menu and looked like sleepy or having smoked ... !!!
- Another waitress did not know the menu either, when we asked the same questions.
- Main course arrived BEFORE appetizer
- Appetizer "andouille" was over spicy, it cover the original taste of andouille !!!
- Scallop Ceviche, Scallop were poor quality product (super watery !!!), fried shallots were soggy !!!
- Hanger steaks were medium low quality.
- Red wine was too warm !!!
Hamburger was not good and was very small. Also the seafood plate was nothing special.
Probably the worst croque madame I’ve ever had, and being French, I’ve eaten plenty. It was dry (the ham mixture and the bread) a nice slice of ham and a not so fried bread would have been better. My fiancé’s daughter loved her eggs in purgatory. The ambiance was great. The service was great. Will give this restaurant another try but will certainly choose any meal option.
Beautiful ambiance. Pastries, best in the city.
Seasoned frites feels a bit sacrosanct. An unseasoned frite would suit more palates.
The eggs benedict was a very heavy dish. I couldn't finish half my plate. Would be nice to offer another benedict with two eggs and a much lighter treatment.
Outstanding service, all staff were amazing.
Hmmmm ... I've brought friends and family to Cluny for Sunday brunch three times in the last month or so. I was really irritated to be seated at a rather crap table when so many with comfortable seats were available. The waiter was nice - I think his name was David - but I felt my food (kale salad with chicken and pomegranate) was very overpriced. The taste and quality was good but my bill was rather shocking with one coffee.
Unfortunately the Distillery District Christmas Market is too crazy for me to book any Christmas dinners or parties so I won't be back for a while.
Excellent in every way, service, food, ambience. Pricy but worth it.
Service and ambiance were incredible, as were the drinks, salads and oysters. The black fish soup had little crunchy bits of shell in it and the hangar steak was sub-par with little-to-no seasoning (the herb butter was a miss too). My wife ordered the sable fish and could barely eat it. Overall rare less-than amazing performance for Cluny.
Went there for bday dinner and dinner was good but desserts were a letdown. Chocolate bomb was a flop bc the person didn't know what there were doing.A head waiter came in to fix by mood was already gone bad. The flambe was a not even good tasted like alcohol and another amateur untrained person tried to serve this dish. The funny thing is other tables had professionals doing the same desserts and we got the trainee. Not recomended to go back. Not waiters fault just the lack of support around him.
The food was delicious and the service was outstanding!!!
Avoid if very busy. Food is notably better quality when they are not overloaded. Service was good but we noticed the difference in the food.
We had a wonderful server, Vince. We enjoyed our experience there.
The server was very pleasant , attentive and knowledgeable
Huge Distillery District French bistro for special nights out. Bakery and smaller bar space on either side of the front entrance leads to huge dining room and then private space. Packed and loud. Fancy bistro fare (tartare, whole fish for two) was fine. Caesar was served as salad hidden under Parmesan cracker with coddled egg, which was difficult to handle with little extra flavour. Prices exorbitant with wines over $50 and mains over $30. Great looking patio that I’m sure is fantastic in summer.
I really like a lot of things about Cluny. The service was good and the ambience is great. But for me there are not enough vegetarian options on the menu. Would like to see a daily soup too and a few more small plate choices that might be suitable for lunch.
Very creative menu with lots of options.
Getting there was very stressful due to downtown Toronto traffic and extremely limited parking. Allow lots of travel time to get there due to location in downtown Toronto. Therefore not suitable for before performance dinner. Make dinner here a full evening event.
Food not up to usual standards - soup was black and funny tasting; Caesar salad way too spicy (not supposed to be spicy); luckily I was warned about pork in the sable fish dish and avoided it but who puts pork in a seafood dish and compounds the issue by not mentioning it on the menu. Altogether not what we have become used to at Cluny - will give it a pause before we return.
Great atmosphere, service was wonderful. However the food is not the best; a little oily for my liking. However its a beautiful restaurant to have a casual dining.
Great as usual.
We had a lovely time there and wait staff were amazing. Timely service, great food relaxed yet elegant atmosphere.
Love it even more every time
Great job guys
This is my third time here, the first two experiences were excellent. The pork chop my friend had was totally unremarkable, very disappointing. My hanger steak, what I've always ordered, was grisly for the first time. The most disappointing item was the poutine we ordered for an appetizer, a bowl of mushy gravy & fry soup, really should've refused it. The bread was great as always, the service was also but for the amount of the bill and the disappointments, will try somewhere else next time I'm in Toronto.
Had a lovely brunch at Cluny's with a group of friends. The server was friendly and helpful. The ambience was amazing. Not too loud. Menu options were great. I would come back!
We've been to Cluny several times and it never disappoints. It's really cool that the change up the menu quite often.
The waiter was SO rude and unprofessional, he seemed like he hated his job. The food wasn’t very good and overpriced for the poor quality.
The food was good and the service was ok but waited too long for the cocktails that arrived almost same time as the entrees and then never offer the wine for main course and then I got it after my meal and was terrible. Red wine served very warm and did not taste as a merlot .I hâte when they Don t show you the bottle.
Excellent brunch experience
From the reviews, I had anticipated a quiet French place with knowledgeable and interested servers. What I got was a large, touristy feeling restaurant, with waitstaff whose last job might have been at a Cheesecake Factory. Perfectly competent, but not personable or terribly interested.
The food, however, was excellent. Very fresh oysters, a fabulous scallop ceviche, tender lamb shoulder that melted in the mouth and a well-timed delicate dessert soufflé.
At $166 CDN for 2 appetizers, 2 mains, 1 glass of wine and 1 dessert, this felt very overpriced. A far better experience can be had at many places in Toronto for much less money.
Food was interesting and mostly good. When we asked for an item that is on the dinner menu but not on the lunch, it was not possible to obtain it at lunch!!??
Unfortunately we drew the newest server and hence the attention was spotty and slow.
Not high on our list for a return visit.
Fabulous as always. One of my absolute favourite spots!!
My aunt and uncle were in town from New Brunswick to see a play. I knew we absolutely needed to invite them to Cluny for a unique French dining experience. They absolutely enjoyed the decor, food and ambience. Such unique dishes. Our waiter offered great suggestions. This was my third time to Cluny and I have yet to be disappointed.
I was somewhat disappointed. 2 out of 3 of our fillets steaks were over cooked. Our server was inattentive. We were unable to locate our server for simple things Like water or salt. The appetizers were good and my husbands burger was good.
I expected more.
Service was very attentive. We had three servers covering our table. Portions are small so don't dine here if you are really hungry. The double espresso looked like a single. Prices are generally high. $9 for a handful of fries. If you are vegan or plant-based, there really are NO options that will satisfy you (given no protein options available).
The food is fantastic especially the dessert the Cluny hazelnuts dessert is a must try.
Service was excellent and so was the food! Would go there again.
Very nice celebrated a birthday :)
This was our second visit to Cluny. The food and ambiance were great as usual, this visit was made even better by our server Armando. Perfect level of attentiveness, very knowledgeable on the menu, super friendly and knew when to give us space. Double thumbs up.
We had a nice brunch at Cluny's on a Saturday morning. Great food and ambiance but rather pricy.
Food was average, service was average
Phenomenal food and atmosphere. My favourite restaurant in the city
Excellent restaurant with the highest quality french baked goods in Toronto
