Copper Grouse - Taconic Hotel
One of our all-time favorite restaurants! Food is always amazing...atmosphere is great and service is exceptional!
We had thanksgiving dinner there. We had a reservation for 7 but the meal had started at 1:30. By the time we got there the turkey was kind of dry and tired. My husband ordered a Manhattan and it came in a sherry glass. I had a martini and it came in a marie antoinette champagne glass. Obviously they ran out of fresh glasses but that was really tacky and they shorted the drinks. The waitress was very nice.
Overly expensive for what it was. $45 for an 8oz sirloin steak that was labeled a flat iron steak was excessive. We also ordered a 14oz New York strip that was $55 and was tough and came over creamed kale and diced potatoes for which the potatoes were diced so fine it was hard to tell they were potatoes.
We were surrounded by families with young children who were loud at times which took away from the ambiance and made the expensive price tag harder to swallow.
We also waited a pretty long time for our entrees and the restaurant was not crowded so not sure what the delay was attributable too.
Finally, the desserts were small and lackluster.
Had our original reservation at another restaurant not been cancelled due to an issue that restaurant was having, we wouldn’t have chosen this restaurant and now that we’ve eaten there and had the experience we had we probably won’t go back.
The ambiance is very cozy however, the food was just ok for the money. I had butternut squash bisque as a starter and honestly, it looked and tasted like puree'd baby food. I was quite taken a back by the consistency and flavor. As my main entree, I had a garden salad with grilled chicken which was not very large and quite expensive. If you are looking for a fun and upbeat environment with great drinks and energy then yes. If you are looking for a restaurant with a 5 star food experience, I would take a pass.
Service was extremely slow. Specialty drinks were not up to par compared to other restaurants in the area. We were disappointed
We started with the pretzel bites, beef tartare, and the New England clam chowder. The chowder was our favorite! My wife ordered the flat iron steak, which was amazing! I had the burger and fries which was good, but I was too stuffed to finish it. Overall the experience was a good one. Our waitress was ok. The meal came out to 150 including tip, a cocktail, and a ginger ale.
Very good food and service but lunch menu was very limited. Would only go back if there were more choices,,especially vegetarian.
Nice room with mix of high tops, tables and booths. Good menu if a little limited. Lamb shank and diver scallops were both excellent with decent portion size. Service was so-so. Prices ok for an upscale meal, not for everyday dining...
We appreciate sharing your dining experience with us. We hope to see you soon.
We stayed for 2 nights and had dinner here both nights and breakfast once. We signed up for the IHG card on chase and wanted to maximize the 40x IHG points in the first year. The food was good, it wasn't great. We found the burger and the breakfast sandwich to be very flavorful but obnoxiously buttery/oily - so much so that they were hard to handle, fell apart and were messy as hell. The scallops dish we had was very pricey for the amount and flavor experienced. The burrata was fantastic but the bread that came with it was underwhelming. Dry rub wings did their job.
Thank you for sharing your experience with us. Reviews such as yours provides valuable feedback to our culinary team in order to improve and enhance the quality of our menu. We hope that you enjoyed your stay, and we look forward to serving you at The Copper Grouse soon.
Staff was friendly and accommodated our request for a secluded table. Server was Amber who was pleasant and made us feel very relaxed and provided great service.
We think Amber is great as well! Thank you for sharing your experience with us! We hope to see you soon at The Copper Grouse.
Made a reservation a month in advance for a 50th birthday dinner for 7 people. When we arrived, we were led to a high top table in the kitchen. It was far larger than required for 7 people and was probably the table where they feed the staff at the end of a shift. The area was unsightly. There were napkins piled on one of the chairs at the table. The bread station was right behind one of our seats. When I asked what this table was, we were told it was the “chef’s special table.” We had NOT requested this table. It was extremely noisy, from the slamming of pans and breaking of glasses to the wait staff constantly moving around us, including to get bread baskets (grabbing the bread with their bare hands) and the music was unnecessarily loud for a restaurant. It was freezing cold - an a/c vent blew directly on us, perhaps to keep the kitchen staff cool. There was nothing “special” about this table, other than how bad it was. We asked the waitress if the chef would be sending out amuse-bouches or if there was a special chef’s menu available to us. She didn’t seem to know what that meant or why we were asking. One person asked to substitute one green vegetable for another green vegetable (that was readily available on the menu) and the waitress was put out by the request and said ‘well, there will be an extra charge for that.’ Really? For an entree that’s already overpriced, you’re upcharging us for an easy substitution? There was no contact with or special attention from the chef at our ‘chefs special table.’ Because we were out of the way and unseen by our waitress, it was difficult to get her attention. It took 20 minutes to get drinks. She didn’t clear the apps plates, she pushed them out of the way with our entrees. The food was fine but not worth the prices. The ambience and service put a damper on our celebration. We dined there a year ago same wkd and it was significantly better in every way. Hey Kimpton management, please fix this. We know you can do better.
Nice vibe, great food and cocktails
Used Copper Grouse 3 times in two days - best experience was nibbles and cocktails on the bar counter with Adam & Beth mixing the drinks!!
Good American hospitality - sadly becoming hard to find these days.
There really is no vegan option available if you want to go that route. Service was good, I would not have expected TVs in a high end (i.e. pricey) restaurant, but with the bar part of the restaurant I guess its unavoidable.
The food is exceptional, particularly the burger and the carrot bolognese. The service is excellent and we have eaten here several times while staying at the hotel. Highly recommend!
We were so happy with our visit to the Copper Grouse! Brunch was absolutely delicious (I had the apple butter french toast and my husband had the eggs benedict). The flavors were amazing! The ambience was gorgeous as well, with the cozy decor and the beautiful fall views out the window. Our server, Sheila, was so kind and attentive. We will surely be back! We've already recommended your restaurant to friends and family!
Overall pretty good, food was tasty but portions are small for the price. Nice setting and service.
Would def go back
I always like coming here. I live in the area.
Sometimes the service is slow, but I know everyone in Manchester/Dorset is short on help.
Molly is a gem. Keep her happy.
Was asked a suggestion for entree waitress suggested definitely get the rib eye special. No price was mentioned when reading it. It ended up being $60. This was nearly double any other entree.
Very shocked when we got the bill.
The food was good but the service was a problem. The reservation app asked if we wanted high top seats or standard. We opted for standard but were seated at a high top table because it was all that was left. After being seated it took about 10 minutes for the waitress to take our drink order and another 20 minutes to actually get the drinks. The food was good but the place was too busy and noisy to fully enjoy.
Overall, for the price, the service and the whole experience should have been better.
Having visited the Manchester area for over 40 years, we have come to expect very good dining experiences in many places, this was not one of them. My swordfish entrée was quite good, my wife's lamb shank must have been boiled to remove all traces of flavor. Our Caesar salads were also tasteless and did not include the anchovies I asked for. The bread was promised twice but did not arrive until well into our dinner. My after dinner scotch was barely enough to wet the bottom of the glass, NOT a $20.00 pour for certain. Service was inattentive at best. Overall a real disappointment in a restaurant we have been before but unlikely to ever return.
I would recommend but I wouldn’t go during Columbus Day weekend. I would go to VT on this holiday weekend. They don’t have enough staff for such a busy weekend. We saw this everywhere we went in the area. This happened to us last year too
Food was very mediocre for brunch. Have had dinner here several times which was much better. Staffing was not adequate, tables had not been cleared.
It was crazy loud and a wedding party was there- 20 people standing next to our table. Too loud. We left.
Very nice experience, food was the best, ambiance was nice, felt the lights could have been dimmed a bit more . Drinks are a little pricey, some cheaper wine options would be good.
Visiting. Our order was misplaced so we waited a long time forgive food. It was good and we were comped dessert to compensate fifths wait. Enjoyed the visit to the restaurant and hotel.
10 year wedding anniversary. Amber was a lovely server. Food was outstanding.
This is a hard review to write. I thought the food was very good, a nice selection of locally sourced ingredients, nice seasonal menu. BUT, the service was so epically bad that it really detracted from the whole experience. We waited forever for our drinks, our appetizers, our entree, our bill. I had to ask twice for spoons for our soup, as it was getting cold. My wife got the wrong entree. Just painful. We skipped dessert because we didn't want to spend another hour waiting.
Great atmosphere and the vibe is cool for Vermont.
We were seated and started seeing other tables seated after us receiving their meals. Our server spent most of her time in other areas of the restaurant. When she came by our table we asked her to check on our order. Our food arrived soon afterwards, although the salmon was dried out, perhaps by having been under a heat lamp for a prolonged period. We were not asked about the quality of our meal while we were eating.
My wife and I had a very nice dinner. We go here often when in Vermont. Keith
The food was not worth the money. Worse ceased salad I ever had,
Waitress made a mistake on bill. The mistake was to my advantage. I called it to her attention. She thanked me for my honesty and then gave me attitude and was not polite at all.
Great food, great ice cold beer. Can’t wait to come back
I was not aware that "burnt" was a flavor. Had an entree composed of Pan Seared Sea Scallops,
Corn pudding, pork belly, baby zucchini, peaches, and fresno chili jam for $37. The scallops were burnt, the zucchinis were burnt, the peaches were burnt, the pork belly was burnt. It's one thing to slightly char items to impart some color and flavor. but this was completely over done, especially for a dish as light and delicate as scallops. My wife had the same dish and her's was likewise burnt. Service was very svery slow. While we were seated right away, it was about 20 minutes before they came to take our order. I've eaten at Kimpton properties a number of times over the years and this was the first truly bad experience.
Good morning Peter. On behave of the management team at the Copper Grouse, we deeply apologize for our poor performance during your stay with us. We pride ourselves on the quality of service, and the quality of our kitchen. We would like to have you and your family return in the future to show that we are better than what you experienced. Reviews such as this allows us to improve, and implement additional training for our staff. We hope to see you again.
We absolutely loved this place. Great menu, with such a laid back and comfortable atmosphere. I highly recommend it!
Thank you Chris! We appreciate the kind words.
Good service and atmosphere were wonderful Enjoyed a romantic dinner in a beautiful hotel
Thank you for the kind words. On behalf of the management team at the Copper Grouse, we always enjoy hearing wonderful experiences such as yours. We hope to have you again.
Good food, nice menu. Server was not very good, but whatever. He wasn't offensive, just not very warm or engaging. Dining room full of NYers, maybe that's why...but hey. That's Fall here in the foothills.
I would recommend they lower the volume of the music so people are not yelling over it...and that the dining room be kept at "Guest Temperature", not "Server Temperature." It was really chilly--everyone was wearing jackets. People went to their rooms/cars to get jackets; it was that cold.
Good beer; Mac and Cheese VERY excellent; Brussels sprouts app excellent but a little over-seasoned; BEST burger I've had in a long time. Fries were not edible for me, too salty. I am an excellent user of seasoning--I use salt regularly, and I am not a crusader about sodium or anything--but this food, while excellent, was overly salty. Not to single these folks out, but kitchens need to season to GUEST taste, not Chef Taste.
Thank you for taking the time to write about your experience, we are always working hard to improve as a team and will use such a review for further training. We hope to see you again.
Very slow service!
Alora was AWESOME!!!
We think so too!
