Daily Grill - San Francisco
Our waiter Nathan was awesome. The entire restaurant had a very cool “Old School Chicago” vibe. Will definitely come back again next time in town.
This was the perfect spot for dinner before a play. The food is very good, lots of choices, and fairly priced. We had amazing service from Elliott - once he knew we were going to a play, he made sure everything was ready in a timely way without our feeling rushed. And when the kitchen forgot the garlic butter for the steaks, he went and grabbed it himself. We will be back.
T he food and service at the Daily Grill was exactly what I expected having heard about the restaurant from friends and through Yelp. We were a party of 6 and we all ordered different entrees. They were all good enough that we kept offering each other tastes of what we ordered. To point out a few different dishes that are worth trying, we loved the Chicken Pot Pie (HUGE!!) and the mac and cheese was insane.
The waiter was a little off-putting—seemed to question our dining needs almost every time we had a special request for dietary reasons.
Service was a little slow. Ambiance was nice and it was quiet.
This is a good location for theater goers. My party had tickets for a 2 night performance of Harry Potter. A great menu with lots of variety. Great service & food. Piped in music a little loud, but overall 2 very pleasant evenings.
My perfect kind of restaurant for a nice dinner with a good friend: quiet, upscale with great food and service. My filet mignon was perfect and we enjoyed everything from start to finish. Definitely recommend.
Ate here before seeing Harry Potter with our grandkids. Good exoerience
We were going to see Harry Potter with our grandchildren. Service was friendly and timely. Something for everyone on the menu. Food was very good.
Horrible service and overpriced/mediocre food. Server barely attended to us. Was not worth the money.
Food was very good. Service was fine but a little slow.
Went for Christmas dinner with our family of 5 (3 kids). The food and service were great. It was busy so glad we had a reservation. It wasnt too pricey by our NYC standards. We would definitely return.
The martini was watered down. Not crowded waiter slow
A.O.K. Serves an important need, Right place, right price, right times
Would recommend for casual meals. Ambiance was less fancy than what I wished for a date night, still food and service were nice.
The prix fix bargain is the way to go.
We had a lively lunch between shows at the Curran theater
Loud music piped over speakers, mediocre food, and not much ambience.
We have been here many times, and have always had great service, food and drinks! Our favorite place to go for lunch and drinks in Union Square. We were very disappointed this time, the drinks were subpar and took at least 20 minutes to get. Our waiter was unattentative, and the floor was a mess with leftover food from the previous patrons. May try another place next time if the staff is the same.
The service was slow, and when the food finally arrived after 45 minutes it was mediocre. A Caesar salad consisted of a small handful of lettuce and a sprinkle of chicken for $18. No one checked back with us. It took three tries to get water and bread, and we had to tackle another waiter to pay. Loud, crowded, slow, mediocre and poor value. We have patronized the place for years because it used to be great value, but now we are done.
Good food---- great service-------- lousy music which ads to the noise level
Had a lovely time with my wife, one of our fave diners. Recommend the short rib fries - so yummy! Bring back the onion rings please!
We've eaten here before and were very pleased, about 2 years ago. Always felt the food the worth the (somewhat) high prices. As of Saturday's lunch, I would not recommend this place - not sure if new management or what. We had our rez for 1230 on a Saturday, didn't get seated until about 1:15; they seemed slammed when we arrived (and being an ex-restaurant owner, I know you don't have total control over being slammed). But as we're shown to our table, there were NUMEROUS tables in the same station as our table, so what the heck? The seating hostess checked on us sitting there several times (we were only 3 people sitting at a 4-top booth in the back) and finally took our drink order, and then our lunch order (without writing it down, how DO they do that?). Can't remember her name, she was worth her weight in gold, and needs a raise and/or promotion - Beautiful black girl in her 20s, I'm a married white woman in her late 50s, so I'm not her friend trying to get her a raise! LOL. While waiting for that, our server checked in with and we had to EXPLAIN to him that we were 'handled' and to check with the hostess. My Cobb salad was actually very good, buy my husband and mother in law thought their meals were so-so, not up to the standard we were used to here. Their meals were the Santa Fe Chicken Wrap and the 1/2 Santa Fe Chicken Wrap with side - both said their chicken was dry. On the the way out, the 3-person group sitting across from us had a very similar experience with service and quality, as we talked to them on the way to the front door. Before we got there, my husband had been telling me, "next time we'll stay at the Handlery, there is a 20% discount here in this restaurant when you stay here". After this experience, we will not be going out of our way to stay at the Handlery.
The ambiace and food were good, however, the service was abismal. The server finally came to take our order and then walked away in the middle of the process to help someone else.
The service was good, although a friend had told me that the service is spotty. i was surprised at how bad the food was. i ordered a caesar salad with chicken and dressing on the side. the salad came very, very overdressed. it was as if extra dressing had been added. my friends orders were also incorrect: the full dinner instead of appetizer crab cakes, sauce all over the plate instead of on the side, etc. also, limp fries that looked like they had been sitting around for a while. it was really disappointing.
We absolutely love this place. We have been here many times for dinner as well as breakfast. This year we stayed in the City and went here for dinner then for breakfast the next day. After a day of shopping coming here for dinner and a glass of wine then to a show is the perfect day. Love the ambiance and the staff has always been top notch. This is one of the best restaurants in the city.
Daily Grill is our go to dining place when going to see a show at the Curran Theatre. The food is ALWAYS good with a nice selection of comfort food. Waiter was super non attentive this time around...she must have been having a bad day. Other than that, dinner was nice and on time.
We had never been to the Daily grill and thought we'd give it a try. I even wrote that in my reservation info. Thought that might perk an attentive person up that it was our first time, aka make a good first impression. Had to ask in the bar for the server to clear a table for us to sit. Cleared the table, but didn't look down to see all the trash on the floor. At dinner had to ask several times for water, waitress was nice but seemed overworked and frazzled. Food was good, but annoying that you had to order "add on's" if you wanted a vegetable with dinner. It was good but not fabulous. I'd try again and make my final decision.
Always a good meal, good service and great ambiance at the Daily Grill. A terrific brunch/lunch location if shopping or sight seeing at Union Square.
Our service was terrible from start to finish. The hostess forgot about us and when finally seated, took forever to order. The waitress never checked on us so never knew we wanted refills on our drinks. And our meal came to the table cold. I’ll have to find a new spot for my annual holiday lunch.
The restaurant was closed. Apparently they had a sewer problem and had to close early. They did not notify me that they would be closed. I showed up with my party of 5 and was very disappointed to not be able to enjoy a dinner out with my party. It was too late to make other arrangements- on a busy Saturday night. Very disappointing!
Awful! Got to the restaurant and it was CLOSED! Apparently due to a sewer issue. I understand things happen out of ones control- but no phone call?
Couldn’t get another restaurant reservation in San Francisco til 10pm!
We had a reservation on Saturday for my mom’s birthday. Ten minutes after we were seated the waitress told us they had a water contamination problem in the kitchen and so they could not prepare food.
The patrons next to us said that it was strange they made the waitstaff deliver the news instead of the manager.
We were offered zero for the inconvenience.
We won’t be going back anytime soon.
I always enjoy going to the Daily Grill. It is priced on the high side but the food is always great!
I had a reservation but had to wait. The calamari was over cooked and sauces appeared to be from a bottle. The creamed spinach was soupy and the baked potato tasted like it was cooked days earlier. Steak was good and cooked perfectly. The salad was overdressed. I wouldn't eat there again even if it were free. Lots of complaints from adjoining tables.
We had to ask for three different table changes to get a table that was reasonably quiet and out of the main stream of traffic. Our server was friendly and helpful but seemed to disappear towards the end of the meal. The food was excellent as usual. We will definitely be back, we have never had a bad meal here. We understand the restaurant was busy, being the Christmas season, which is why the service was slow at times.
So here's the thing: the front desk staff was/is a mess. I have eaten there many times and never had issues. This time we arrived a few minutes early for our 5pm reservation and between the three ladies at the front, no one seemed to be familiar with either the computer reservation system or the basic concept of greeting guests. One muttered to the other, one asked us to sit and wait, another picked up the phone. One finally assured us there were tables available and we would be seated --- but there seemed to be confusion about if/where/when. A minute later another party walked in, was greeted with hugs and promptly led to a table while we sat. After some more wandering back and forth by the hosts, we were led to a table around the back of the restaurant ... where there were dozens of empty tables. Have NO idea what all that confusion was about - perhaps they were short on waiters? Once we were sat, our waiter (Emmett I believe?) was a solid PRO. Food was good - excellent steak salad, excellent butternut soup, very good cocktails. Summary: good spot near the theatres, menu fine, meat good, service good, you just have to survive the front desk...
The service here is really really bad.
Good restaurant if you are going to the theater. Hamburger was delicious.
