Due Lira NEVER fails. We love this place and can’t wait to go back. The menu is clean, direct and magnificent.
Due Lire is one of our “go to” spots in Lincoln Square. The intimacy of the dining room, the thoughtful menu, the consistently excellent service, all work together to make it not only a safe bet, but a memorable meal and the perfect setting for special occasions or important conversations.
It was our first time to the restaurant, and we were very pleased with our experience. They are a very friendly staff and the food was very enjoyable and delicious.
Very good good , very nice staff
Food was not anything that I will remember. We needed salt and pepper on everything we ordered. The pear dessert was delicious, however! Great ambiance and service, however the food was just ok. Maybe just an off night.
Always a treat to go to this neighbor gem. Massimo, the owner, and the staff are a delight and the food and wine selection are incredible.
Noisy! Too many people in a small room.
Good food up and down the menu. Great ambiance. Kind and passionate owner.
I like this restaurant. I like it so much I've gone twice in two weeks, three times total. Don't miss the fried artichoke side dish (we always have it as an appetizer for the table) and enjoyed the polenta fries and arancini. I highly recommend the arctic char if they are offering it. The steak with polenta and spinach is also delicious. Third time I had the ravioli with short rib which was good, but I didn't immediately want to order it again like the other two mains I've tried. This is a great place for friends or a date, not too loud like so many places these days.
this was on the list for one of the 20 best Italian restaurants in Chicago. we thought we'd try it and had no trouble getting the reservation. menu was good, some interesting specials. Partner ordered the gnocchi lamb ragu. small portion for a big eater. he end up sharing my beef short rib ravioli. that was very good and the portion seemed to match other Italian restaurants. we also ordered a salad to share (very fresh and plenty) and an appetizer which was fried cheese balls with tomato sauce. Also good. All in all, not a spectacular place. Probably will continue on the list of best 20 rather than return.
Very good food and service. Will come back
Pleasant. We went because we’ve enjoyed the food in the past, and they honor the neighborhood restaurant week menu a few days longer than the chamber mentions. (We were also going to commence the end to our life as just a couple as we are having our first child in 3 days.)
I do like that there is a limited menu because there shouldn’t be so much to choose from anyways, and within the limitations allows them to focus on preparing the few dishes they do serve well! There’s no salt or pepper on the table in this restaurant and there isn’t a need for it either, because everything is seasoned appropriately, even the simple arugula salad. While the portion sizes are perfect for someone like me that still takes home a doggy bag, my husband would prefer a double entree size, he is satisfied for the most part but wouldn’t mind the option of continuing to spoon this deliciousness into his mouth. Tonight we had the fried cheese fritters which were dainty, tangy pillows of cheese! The tomato jam, was indeed ‘the jam!’ The arugula salad, it was dressed perfectly with salt, olive oil and lemon, fresh crushed pepper made it spot on. My beef tenderloin with polenta, spinach and port reduction was perfectly cooked and if I had room to finish I would’ve also licked my plate! My husbands option of seafood stew over risotto was delicious also, the muscles, clams and calamari were fresh tasting and risotto perfectly cooked. For dessert we had the gelato and it was a yummy way to end the relaxing quaint evening.
Extraordinary food and service! Just way too loud to have a conversation.
I was a guest at Due Lire before an Old Town School show, and really enjoyed my meal then (Arctic Char, a special, was delicious.) I liked it so much I hosted a recent birthday celebration there, and people really enjoyed it. Two people present usually don't finish their meals, but every dinner plate was completely eaten. One person, who normally doesn't finish their meal, said, after the meal was over, something to the effect that they hadn't said how good their ravioli was for fear of having to give up a morsel to another person. Vegetarians have more than a token option to choose from, especially if they're willing to make a meal of assorted sides - but there are mains that fit the bill too. I strongly suggest the artichoke dish, but have also enjoyed the polenta and cheese dumpling/fritter dishes as sides. At one point it got loud, but only for a short bit. I have never gone when the weather suited the patio, but look forward to trying it next year. Service was attentive but not intrusive.
We had an excellent meal and service was great as usual.
Very cute place in downtown Lincoln Square. It was pretty noisy for such a small place, however the food/drinks were amazing and the service was great!
Food and service were superb. Not our first experience there. We have tired different items on the menu and found them all to be excellent, so we will be back again.
The tables were very close together and it was hard to engage in conversation. The food was fine but nothing to write home about.
We walked in and the noise level was loud. We were on a date so difficult to hear each other. The food was good and our wait staff was good. The Cod special was very good and the Gnocchi was 1st rate.
Our server Andre was very attentive and provided a wonderful suggestion for a substitute bottle of Sangiovese wine when the Chianti we ordered was 'out'. Fried calamari appetizer was tasty and ample for two and the artichoke leaves and olives(!?!) added were deep fried as well. Ruth really like her shrimp with twisted pasta dish. I like my braised rib and beef risotto, but thought it blandly seasoned. Her desert was pistachio ice cream with chocolate and expresso on top was a fabulous addition.
This was our first time here and what a neighborhood gem! We were lucky enough to sit in the outside patio and it was fabulous. Adrian was our server and he made wonderful recommendations. Our wine and our food were fabulous and we certainly will be going back again. Perfect for before concerts at old town school of music. We had a beef and goat cheese salad, a risotto that had corn and shrimp which was outstanding, and a red trout special along with a tagielle pasta with seafood. Perfect!
Delicious food and excellent service. The server was knowledgeable and efficient. My pork chop was cooked perfectly—moist and tender with complex flavors from the stuffing and sauce. The short rib ravioli were rich and beefy flavor.
It all seems a bit pricey for what you get. Case in point was the Calamari; it was mostly grilled 'something else' but not the squid. Also, while I'm not a large portion, the main course was sort of tiny. They don't bring bread to the table as a rule, so they charge you for it.
I don't need to go back. Sorry, but you asked.
Maybe for City of Chgo was customary but thought the value for the food was below average. $19 for short rib ravioli was poor. They were tiny & almost looked sunken. The taste was ok. Also had saffron shrimp risotto special for $20 & that was a better value. Glasses of red wine were average in price. However no bread offered, had to pay for that. Service was excellent & sitting in the patio in back excellent.
The food was excellent!! Our friends had been their before, this was our first time. We loved it! Small, quaint, great service, great wine. Truly one of the best meals out we have had in awhile!! We will return!
Wonderful back patio makes for quiet, perfect atmosphere. Food was excellent & wine list great too.
As an Italian American, I have a tough time finding good Italian food. Food was delicious and the service was outstanding. Due Lire exceeded our expectations.
We really enjoyed our dinner! I had The kale the polenta was savory but a bit rubbery. Grilled bread was yummy. Portions were large and unfortunately we were too full for dessert 😄
Great food, thoughtfully prepared! The patio ambiance is relaxing and inviting. The cocktails were excellent, as was the impressive wine selection.
My pasta entree was delicious. The waitstaff were cordial and welcoming. A very good place for an Old Town School pre-concert dinner.
Love it there!
We LOVE Due Lira, it’s one of the best restaurants in a neighborhood for of great restaurants. Every time we go, we ask ourselves, “why don’t we come here more often?”
We had a very nice meal in the patio with some delicious craft cocktails and food.
We thought the food was wonderful. Can't wait to try something new there.
Always great food!
This was our second visit to Due Lire. Once again, the appetizers did not disappoint (the polenta fries in the fritto were fried to perfection), and the drinks were delicious. I had the gnocchi and my boyfriend had the beef tenderloin special. The briny element of the artichoke in the gnocchi with the spicy sausage was amazing with the pillowy gnocchi. We had the cheesecake special for dessert, and the amaretto crust with the toasted Italian merengue on the top were special touches.
This little spot has quickly become our favorite Italian restaurant! From birthdays to date night, Due Lire is always a spot we consider for a fantastic Italian meal.
It was a wonderful evening to celebrate being with my daughters alongside Massimo, Kevin and Micah who always make the evening special providing outstanding customer service and a delicious meal!!
We have walked past Due Lire multiple times and never felt like we wanted to go outside of the comfort zone of our regular Italy restaurants. Then a friend suggested it for his birthday. We are glad he did.
From the friendly, skilled service to the variety of fresh pastas and entrees we were not disappointed.
The desserts were great especially the Nutella mousse crisp.
The space is small but not crowded.
We are definitely returning.
Great experience. Nice menu, good wine, beautiful outside patio.
