Duke of Wellington Inn
We visit here very often however on this occasion it was not the same level of service as usual. We had to wait a while for our table despite a lot of tables available and there was nowhere to sit and service was slow. We noticed that the owner and his family were there with a large party and serving staff seemed to be more inclined to wait on them and ignore the rest of the restaurant.
The best Sunday dinner you will ever have! Lovely pub and friendly and helpful staff.
Great food, good service in a lovely setting.
Good for kids too.
Fantastic meal & extremely friendly staff.
Whether we're coming to the Duke for lunch or dinner, with friends or family, we have never been disappointed! We love this restaurant, perched overlooking the Tyne Valley with parking right outside. The food never ceases to amaze and Sunday lunch on 5 January 2020 was perfect! The chicken for the main course was moist, tasty stuffing and gravy, and quality and quantity of roast potatoes and vegetables, perfect. Our desserts were the cheesecake and the delice - again, perfect sizes and absolutely delicious! With excellent service and a warm welcome from the staff,
we couldn't have asked for more and can't wait to return!
A very pleasant and tasty meal with a nice atmosphere
Went with disabled husband. Staff really nice and attentive. Went the extra mile. Service a bit slow but when food arrived - It was delicious and one forgave the wait
I had cheese souffle as a main and a sticky toffee pudding to die for sponge so light
A good start to the New Year
Lovely atmosphere. Furnishings are plush. Service very friendly and prompt. Staff give you plenty time to get settled and so willing to ensure everything is right.
We had an extended lunch with friends before Christmas. The staff were very friendly and helpful and didn’t rush us, even though we were talking too much to look at the menu at first. The specials and winter menus gave us all a good choice, but the beetroot and goats cheese starter ( beautifully presented with a bit of fig and some honeycomb) was outstanding, in my view. Although we enjoyed our meals, one of us found some bone in the ham hock: the waiter apologised and it was subsequently taken off the menu.
The fish pie was fairly “ standard” fare for a pub, but the coffee and beers were good quality.
Overall, very good and, as it was quiet over mid week, we were able to stay as long as we liked.
Food and Service was exceptional
Have dined here several times and invited a range of friends to join us but on this occasion, there was something lacking.
It seemed to be OK but lacked some soul in the restaurant for a Saturday night, very few in.
Is this past it's best?
The food choice needs to be re-thought I think and kept within price reach.
Website menu and prices nearly put me off.
So come on Duke of W up your game to it's original and re-create the special place it used to be!
Great surroundings, great food, made all the better by the fantastic staff. Cheers as always! Paul & Co.
Lovely food lovely service lovely place. We live quite far away but worth the travel.always good food hot and tasty. Nothing is a bother to the staff.
Excellent Sunday lunch. The restaurant was very comfortable and staff very efficient and friendly
Very pleasant meal with the family , good variety of choices well presented. We all enjoyed our meals
Was quiet in restaurant but didn’t mind that , food was great nice selection n service was good
A wonderful Sunday Lunch, in a lovely spot with excellent service.
Amazing food, lovely staff, beautiful interior and surroundings
As always we were warmly welcomed, shown to a table of our choice in a very pleasant dining area, and were well looked after. We had a traditional Sunday lunch, which was excellent, with a range of meats to choose from. There were also several starters and desserts, and vegetarians were catered for too. The dining room was busy but the service was prompt, friendly and polite.
Lovely venue, great views, service and food was fantastic!
Always a great experience eating here. Food great, staff brilliant, setting lovely, the rooms are great too.
Mid range price wise but not too expensive.
A good selection on the menu and the sticky toffee pudding is to die for !!
I love The Duke of Wellington. The food is gorgeous the staff are very helpful, polite and courteous
Nothing is too much trouble for them. We will definitely be back and I have already recommended
The Duke of Wellington to my friends and family. Well done to all who work there.
THANK YOU SO MUCH
Remarkably good food from a very friendly relaxed pub in a beautiful position - genuine fine dining of very high quality.
Fantastic food, service and atmosphere as always! Highly recommend
Best Sunday lunch in the North East of England, everything was perfectly cooked and came to the table hot. I am often let down whilst out fr Sunday lunch either by cold veg or tasteless gravy, soggy Yorkshire puddings or tough meat, I'm happy to say I couldn't fault this meal.
This is one of our favourite places to eat locally. Lovely food and friendly staff.
Lovely location and staff were happy to take orders from the terrace. They had provided a window table, as requested. A very diverse menu and everything was beautifully cooked and presented. Good wine list including by the glass. Well-made coffee.
Had a delicious meal with the family on a Saturday night and the ambiance of the place was just perfect
Really great location . Food at best average . Quite expensive - steak overdone. Nice drinks. Waiting staff pleasant but not that attentive . Bill incorrect . Needs a bit leadership
Great service as usual. I have been to the Duke of Wellington on numerous occasions and I have been happy both the food and the relaxed atmosphere. Food this time was very good.
Breakfast booked for 9am but we turned up about 8.10am. Staff weren't put out as our table was already
set. Ordered full English and boy that is what we got! 2 bacon 2 sausage 2 egg 2 fried bread beans large tomato black pudding toast and butter ! We have eaten Full English all over the world and we reckon this one sits in the top 5 easily!
Fantastic food and service! Couldn’t fault will definitely be back!
A bit expensive for the food but would still recommend:)
We always enjoy The Duke of Wellington. We’ve eaten here many time and never been disappointed, the staff are very friendly, courteous and will offer advice if you need it.
Absolutely fabulous x
Everything great apart from a drink I ordered didn’t arrive so had to ask again. Also, it took an age to get the bill and then had to go to the bar to pay. Small niggle but a niggle nonetheless.
Good welcome, great choices one of our party had roast of the day ciabatta very tasty, scampi very light gammon and duck egg excellent ,only one down side we don't like skinny chips otherwise we will definitely return
First time here for Sunday lunch , but just as good as the a la carte menu during the week. The choice of roasts and other dishes was excellent, the meat perfectly cooked with a range of wonderful veggies and potatoes. Dessert equally as good and I can thoroughly recommend the Sicilian house white! Brilliant, and service to match. Really attentive, but not intrusive. Can't wait to return.
This my second visit with my friend.
It was mid week and quite quiet but the staff were very friendly and helpful particularly as I have specific dietary needs, I am a coeliac.
The steak was delicious. I would have enjoyed chips with the steak but these could not be guaranteed Gluten Free, however it was no hardship to have new potatoes on this occasion.
We both had steak, both cooked exactly how we ordered, good portion size with salad, homemade chips, mushroom, onionrings etc
Really nice place with excellent staff.
Would definitely recommend
Great Sunday lunch
