Elephant Bar Restaurant - Burlingame
My husband loved the jambalaya. The coconut shrimp could have used some sort of sauce but overall flavors were good.
On this occasion, Thanksgiving, one would have hoped that service would have been better. We had to wait a long time for drinks and dessert. The entree came long before the salad that did not come at all. I don't know if it was busier than usual or if you were short-handed, but it was a little disappointing.
Great meal right next door to our hotel. Always enjoy eating here, and this time our server was exceptional.
Food selection is great, service was average, ambience is pretty cool, but most importantly the quality and value of the food definitely has opportunity. Probably explains why there was no wait at 7p on a Friday night, which was never the case before. Very disappointed as we were celebrating my Dad's birthday and he got his food at least 20 minutes later than everyone else in our party. Food and coffee came out cool, not hot or even warm. Unfortunately, we'll be taking our business elsewhere. What happened Elephant Bar?
Tons of variety on menu, all looked great. I had the Mongolian beef with vegetables, and it was excellent. Very reasonably priced. Fun, energetic vibe, as it was quite busy. Loved the place and will definitely go back.
Service was really slow. Drinks came out after our entrees. Our server was saying they only had one bartender on a Saturday night!
They really need more staff at this place. Food was good though
The computer system was down so they were trying to seat people “on paper” which clearly was not an easy task. The service was bad which is the reason the rating is so low. The hostess took our order and then we never saw our waiter until the end of our meal.
Our waiter, Leo is so wonderful. Best service and we enjoy his kind and friendly attitude.
Outstanding food offset by somewhat slow service.
The good and service was fine. The fact that we had to wait over 30 minutes to receive our food was not fine. Don’t go if you are in a hurry!!
Glad they finally reopened! Raul was gracious and gave us a warm welcome. We take our 93 yr old Mother there for lunch and she loves watching the water birds and airplanes landing at SFO.
Beautiful Spot! Service was a little slow
Much better experience than yesterday, Sunday, where we waited to be seated with a reservation, then seated and didn’t get service or “Hi, be with you” for 20 minutes. So, we decided to leave.
Today, we were seated quickly. Seemed just as busy as Sunday. We got our drinks, waited for our food but hey, it was busy.
Service was good, but food was average. Nothing special to rave about - Philly Steak sandwich and an appetizer combo (fried string beans, nachos, potato skins).
Ok, why the low stars. We had a reservation at 11:45a on a Sunday. We got there 10 minutes early. We were greeted and was told we were early. (Okay?). We were told there was a few people ahead of us. That’s okay, we were early, but I could see there were tables empty. I checked back at 11:50a. We were then seated.
We checked the menus, closed them and waited for our server. 12:15p, we asked an employee walking by who our server was. Hmm. We waited, then decided to leave.
It didn’t appear that it was too busy; so, Elephant Bar must have been under staffed.
I have come to the conclusion, don’t go to Elephant Bar on weekends or holidays.
Service was especially slow. We were there almost 1hr before anyone even took our order. Wait staff quite inattentive.
Overall quality of food seems to have declined. Was just mediocre this time.
Service was really slow and a lot of their food selections on the menu they offered were either not available or were "not really ready to be made" by the kitchen.
Granted we were on a time crunch and had limited to choices. However the Manager didn’t believe our open table reservation so asked me to show proof on my phone. Then she complained about how open table messed up. Once seated 20 mins later we then waited for another 15 mins for anyone to greet us or get us water. We ordered a vodka soda 4x only to finally get the two drinks as we asked for our bill. Then the server apologized and said he took off the drinks due to the inconvenience...nope still in the bill which we have no problem paying for what we ordered. When we mentioned it to the server he stated we had ordered more...correct we had but didn’t receive them. It was a total disaster. We will never go back and would of had a better experience and service at Denny’s.
Birthday ! Forgot to tell server. Service always consistent..
It’s ok. I wouldn’t make a special trip to there but if you’re in the area and looking for an informal place to eat (and drink) it’s ok.
Didn’t know Resturant just re-opened 3 days ago, until after I made reservations on Open Table. Noticed some concerned ratings, so called to verify they were open. First call was not answered after 40 rings. 2nd call was answered and found their OpenTable access was not working and they would not take reservations. Since we were going to be there at 3:30p, probably ok. Got seated right away at booth with nice view of the Bay. Took very long to get drinks ordered. Waiter returned to say they didn’t have Merlot wine, so went with Coke. Meal took very long to come for just hamburgers. Refill on cokes had to flag down the waiter to get. Then that took excessively long. The waiter explained their coke dispenser stopped working so he had to go elsewhere to get drinks refilled. This place was just not ready for prime time. :(
took 30 min for anyone to come to our table all of the beer was out but coors light we split lettuce wraps and got lettuce wedge with cold turkey weird they totally forgot my husbands salad and never came back until we were ready to leave for us to tell them to remove from bill
We were there opening day so service very slow, but our waitress in back room was very helpful, I thought the restaurant would be all new looking, but just noticed new rugs.
Soon as we got there there was a note on the door that “tomorrow they won’t open till 5pm”. We open the door and are greeted that they won’t be opening up till 5. Our reservation was for 4:30 but we got there at 4:00 so we expected to wait.
Great it was closed. It would be nice to know if a restaurant was open or closed when making a reservation
Okay, we were greeted with a friendly and cheerful smile; and, we were given a 15% off our next visit.
My rating is based on overall experience. Value was great because I didn’t spend a thing. The restaurant was still closed for remodeling; so, I didn’t see much but heard the construction noise.
I’ve been checking Open Table to see if Elephant Bar is open because I am a regular. Oh well.
My husband is sad because he missed his birthday dessert. Well, next year for him. Hope Elephant Bar is open for my birthday dessert.
The darn place was closed. Why you can do a reservation to a place that is closed is beyond me.
They were closed and never bothered to notify open table regarding this. I made plans for a get together yesterday night via open table reservations but to my horror, this place was not even open. How embarrassing it was for me. Wasted so much precious time. Had to look for another place to dine on a Friday night without reservations for a large group. This shows how much this establishment cares about it’s dinners...
Place is CLOSED!
We arrived for our reservation and lo and behold the restaurant was closed for renovations. I alerted Open Table, they apologized profusely and promised to follow up with the restaurant.
They started to remodel on 7/8. But, they didn't send out any updates. We only found out that when we got there.
Oh, sad. Elephant Bar will be closed from Monday, July 8th to August 1st for remodeling.
We always come here to relax, eat and watch the planes take off and land. Lovely view. Meals are enjoyable with Raul as our server. It’s nice to have him know what drinks we are going to order.
Well, see you in August.
Happy hour is a good price.. Thank you for a friendly service! Manager Jimmy and his staff were awesome! We ordered a new drink that we thought was a regular piña colada and it wasn’t, we were not drinking it really, because it was not what we expected and we didn’t want to complain. (The fear of: We didn’t want people to spit on our drink lol) For some reason he came to us and chatted for a couple minutes and we kinda told him our story, he immediately told the bar tender to make us the regular piña colada 😊
Window seats are great. The airport with the ocean view. It is beautiful especially around sunset. With the house brew beer, food is not that important.
Table was ready when we arrived...Waiter was very helpful and attentive. View was wonderful watching the plane take off and land. My only minus was some of the booths seats were all taped up. Time for some repairs.
Expensive bar food equivalent food and service should be 30% cheaper.
The amount of food for the price is amazing! Needless to say, my dad was VERY happy to spend Father’s Day here ❤️
Elephant bar is showing it's age. Limited menu, poor condition fixtures (taped up seat cushions). Food is OK, value is OK. Service is OK. Nothing outstanding except the location / view of the airport.
The food was really good!:) and the service too! My family and I had a good experience there thanks you!
Good view of SFO landing traffic. “Three appetizer special “ was good value and delicious. French onion soup wasn’t hot enough.
