We had the fillet steak, which was excellent my husband had the sea bass which he said was lovely
I would recommend to a friend. The food was good although we did have send back the prawns as they hadn't been cleaned properly. The service was quite slow,we had to ask to order drinks as no one took our order.Felt like we had to keep asking for things rather than being asked if we needed anything.Having said that the staff were friendly, just need to be a bit more efficient.
The temperature in the restaurant was to cold so the heating should have been turned up.
Great food and fantastic service from Tom. Highly recommended venue.
Due to seasonal weather conditions the heating was off and was inclined to be rather chilly. Overall would recommend to friends.
My husband and I came here for our first wedding anniversary. The food was outstanding as always, fantastic service and beautiful location. Highly recommended.
Food was amazing! Staff super friendly and helpful.
It was our wedding anniversary (we got married at Greenwood’s last year)
Lovely food and great service and surroundings!!! What stunning hotel. We will be back
Great restaurant, and the staff are great. Opentable software naff, as had changes from Friday to Thursday via open table and they didn't update the restaurant but managed to still get in thankfully.
The service was awful. There seemed to be plenty of staff about but no one willing to serve.
Very good overall need to have more info on Gluten Free dish options, but defo recommend
Very impressed and will definitely return again. The services was good and the food very tasty. My guests all enjoyed themselves.
Lovely surroundings, corteous staff, good menu, what's not to like?
Slightly marred by poor roast pork not up to usual standard
There was no vegetarian choice Risotto is not a Sunday lunch dinner but this was all that was on offer and my husband did not get a cauliflower cheese or a batter pudding we had to ask for this. The room was lovely but the lunch itself was poor and overpriced. Our local pub does a better meal but we came to Greenwoods because this lunch was a special occasion. We will not be returning and I would not recommend this.
Arrived and apparently not expecting us despite booking. Restaurant had a problem with flies at least 8 annoying our table and the other customers. Very off putting. Windows were closed so no reason for not dealing with this.
Food was fine but service was poor. Waited ages for 3 drinks when there were only 3 other diners in the restaurant. Staff polite but after asking for tap water no jug left or top up. It should be hard to keep 2 tables and only 5 customers happy when there are 2 waitresses and a barman. We came 2 years previously and had a bad experience. We came in May this year and had a lovely time. This time back to not good.
Quiet restaurant with a good menu choice. The service was quick and efficient.
Third time visit. Food not as good as previous visits. Service a bit slow . Nice place , unfortunately v hot night with no air con. Sunday lunch previously had was excellent.
The occasion was our 50th Wedding Anniversary, spent with our children. The food, service and décor were excellent and we much appreciated the unexpected touch of a plate of petit fours at the end of the meal with Happy Anniversary piped around the edge of the plate.
Really nice meal but wasn't happy about ordering wine that was then told they did not have so had to purchase a more expensive one, think staff should know what wines are in stock when they give you the wine list
A very pleasant ambience, nice and bright with plenty of natural light. An excellent 2 course roast dinner was complemented by good service. Recommended.
We expected a lot but left very disappointed. This was our first and as it turned out our last visit. Food was ok but not exceptional as the price would suggest. Service was poor and sloppy. Restaurant lay out is strange and we were placed in what appeared to be a narrow annex where there was atmosphere. What I thought was a bit of a rip off was the price of £9 for two coffee. Shame as the restaurant is only 5 minutes from home and we were anticipating finding a venue we could use on a regular basis.
Average food and very poor/ slow service. 40 minute wait for a cold starter. Extremely unhappy and underwhelmed. Restaurant is small and tables are placed close together therefore difficult to feel any privacy whilst conversating. Breakfast again was slow although not as slow. Overall very unhappy with the service and incredibly disappointed.
Had a great Sunday lunch, great service and wonderful staff
Nice venue and service. Food was good. Definitely use again.
Restaurant area very comfy and cosy good tables for romance, meetings or just an everyday meal.Staff very helpful and friendly and presented the food perfectly. As ours was a sunday evening meal not a la carte menu but still a good selection and all what we chose was perfect
I have mixed feelings as my husband really enjoyed his meal... Tiger chilli prawns to start, and ribeye steak cooked as he asked.
I enjoyed the Malbec and bread basket but had a disaster with my main...
Fillet steak looked lovely but was overcooked for medium rare... Mentioned to one of the wait staff who said they would redo my plate... He returned with a new piece of steak which was unrecognisable as a fillet and had been haphazardly sliced... When I mentioned that it wasn't quite how I expected, I was told that it was now medallions?! Well, whatever it was, it was still overcooked so I didn't eat it and asked for it to be taken off the bill, as husband had already finished.
The rosti with it was really tasty and green beans well cooked.
I had added a note to the booking that it was my husbands birthday but this wasn't mentioned.
Staff were polite and friendly but not seamless... Unusual to have to ask and wait for a wine menu.. I like to choose wine and food together.
The restaurant has been redecorated in the past year and the style is elegant. Already decorated for Christmas, with garland and tree next to the fireplace... Both of which would look 100% better if the lights were set to static or a gentle twinkle... Rather than using all of the settings, the manic flashing being the worst! (We didn't mention this while we were there as the controls were in the corner near another table)
All in all, a disappointing choice for a birthday meal.
Such a lovely place to spend a relaxed Sunday afternoon.
The staff did not know that the restaurant is called Ellis's and there was no sign indicating that it is called Ellis's. But we did have a booking at a restaurant at Greenwoods so that was fine. The staff did not know what drinks were available - I asked what gins they had and they told me a few names including Tanqueray which I ordered and my husband ordered Grey Goose Vodka. They came back to say that they did not have Tanqueray so I opted for Grey Goose like my husband - only to be told that they did not have that either and only had Smirnoff Red which we ended up with. The starters were good and the main course was fine when they eventually got me the one I ordered. The staff were young and friendly enough - just need a bit more training. Overall the food is fine - one step up from pub food I'd say. I am not sure I would rush back or recommend to a friend. It just seems to lack something.
Visited on Christmas Eve for lunch. Hotel was very tastefully decorated. Good service and some good dishes, especially sea bass in soy broth and iced peanut parfait. Will go in the supring/summer to explore the grounds.
Vegetarian options are very limited (one option) - surprises me these days! Waiting staff had no idea of what was on the menu or its presentation, they had no idea of the specials!! and told us to have a look at the board in the bar - we were a little affronted at the quality of service given the price of the meals - it just doesn't match. Lots of training needed, the whole standard crashed back to usual English guff. Food was much higher than usual standard in England, and was clearly thoughtful of season, quality and presentation lived up to our expectation. Setting is lovely, front room especially is charming. Christmas Décor was beautiful. Wine list very nice and clearly some thought shown here too.
