As wonderful as always! A long standing favorite!!
It was our first time dining here and we were disappointed. I had the filet w/scampi and I did not care for the sauce on the filet, I asked for medium rare and it was more on the rare side. My husband had the onion soup and that was very good, he also had the Cesar salad and had prawns added, the added 3 prawns came to an additional $19.95, which we felt was over priced. The server was pleasant. We love fine dining and this dining experience was not anywhere near a fine dining experience. Glad we tried this place but will not be returning.
Fandango has alwsys been a favorite place to go. Food this time was just ok, nothing special, service was fine, presentation was lacking. Pretty pricey for what was served. Will I go back again? Probably try it again (but there are so many fine restaurants in this area.
If you go, ask to sit in the center/right of main room. The “ocean view” is there only. Paella was sticky, dry, lacking flavor. Duck portion was very large but also unremarkable. Soufflé was excellent. Overall for the price, not again.
We have been coming to Fandango since the 70’s and has always been one of our favorite restaurants to eat. So when we returned today post Covid we were very excited about eating there and were looking forward to the experience. It is with great sorrow I tell you that the whole experience from beginning to to end was mediocre at best. The service was not good, the waiter was inattentive. When the busboy poured water in the glass he spilled it on the bread basket and on the hands of one of us . The food was terrible. When we asked about the fish on the menu to determine what was fresh for the day we were told they had no fresh fish on the menu. The lamb was fatty and not prepared well.
The veal was think and clearly had not been well prepared. The mashed potatoes were inedible. We went to dessert hoping for a better experience but the profiteroles tasted as though they were just taken out of the freezer and Hersey chocolate poured over them We also ordered the gran mariner soufflé which tasted like pre packaged egg whites under cooked . This restaurant has really undone some major changes that are not for the better
Very sad but we will not be returning and certainly not give recommendations to our friends
Definitely one of the best restaurants in the area. I gave the food a 4 star instead of 5 just because the filet was prepared rare instead of medium rare and therefore a bit chewy. Overall an excellent restaurant with good food and attentive service.
When you want quality food and beautiful ambiance this is a good choice. It is on the expensive side for some things, but the overall menu is full of great options for lots of tastes. We sat upstairs this visit, and out servers were fantastic. The wine list is extensive and features some local Monterey county wines, which, I love. The two things that were especially delicious included the rack of lamb and the calamari appetizer. Ordering the soufflé ahead of time for dessert is also a must try. One suggestion is that they cook the green beans a little shorter amount, as they were a bit soggy. We will be back again soon.
We absolutely love Fandango and will always come back to it every time we visit.
Outstanding, attentive service. Very good food, though some entres are rather expensive. Very good special occasion restaurant
We celebrated my mother-law’s birthday for our first outing since Covid. Couldn’t have asked for a better dinner and experience!
Amazing service, great menu, and location can’t be beat
Excellent experience. It was my birthday and Fandango went to great concern to make it a very special day. They had streamers on the table wished me a happy birthday and gave meA complementary amazing dessert. They made my birthday very special occasion. I appreciate it very much.
The scallops, caprese salad, service and wine were great!
First time we have eaten here in at least 2 years - it was worth the wait. Fandango is not cheap, but it is the perfect top quality spot for a special occasion. Superb professional service and excellent food to celebrate my Wife's Birthday. Fandango's Staff was friendly and attentive and made an extra effort to help us celebrate. Menu was top notch - I wanted 1 of everything. Rita had the Onion soup and NY Strip steak - done perfectly without much waste. My Caesar Salad was crisp and full of cheese and the Rack of Lamb (house specialty) was melt in your mouth tender, with no gamey taste (which can be found in some lamb). They participate in "Taste of Monterey" free corkage program for bring your own local wines - always an incentive to dine here.
The food was amazing! The service was amazing! It made my birthday the most amazing day!
Always wanted to visit this restaurant. Food ordered, cassoulet and sanddabs, were both excellent. Service good as well.
Wine prices were OFF THE CHART HIGH. Totally out of line!
I would have given this place 5 stars except for the wine pricing.
Wide selection of entrees. The food was delicious.
Great experience! A little bit spendy, but what restaurant isn't that serves good food and has great service?
Always absolutely delicious food and great service. Our table was a bit squished on a small room, but I think that the restaurant is getting very busy again — which delights me!
Overall we had a wonderful celebration for our larger party.
There were some small housekeeping details that were overlooked but I arrived early and was able to fix them.
The place could use dusting.
The staff out up decorations for us.
They were pleasant and accommodating with all requests. Just wish they had been a little more attentive with checking in more often. We had to ask for water, bread, menus.
I always get what I do not cook at home.
Everything is exceptional!
Extremely varied menu, all delicious, the staff exudes hospitality, and the overall atmosphere is wonderful.
This was my first experience dining at fandango. It was a little bit more expensive than other restaurants in the area so check their menu before you go. The service was good and the servers were very knowledgeable about their wine and dishes. Food delivery to the table did seem to progress slowly and disjointed between courses as it seemed the kitchen may have been a little understaffed for the amount of diners that night. Portions and flavors were as I was expecting for this caliber of restaurant. I might reserve this for a special occasion dining experience in the future when in the area.
My wife an I have been dining at Fandango on a regular basis since the '80s. We've never had a bad meal there. The service is outstanding and the waiters are courteous to a fault. If you have out-of-town guests and wonder where to take them for dinner, take them to Fandango. They'll love you for it.
Restaurant seemed understaffed. Service seemed distracted and hurried. Kitchen timing a little off-- my entree sat under the heat lamp while the meat entrees were finished. In the end, the food was as good as it always has been. If you charge fine dining prices, the experience needs to be on par with the food. Still a great choice, but not my favorite time dining at Fandango.
We drove from Walnut Creek to Pacific Grove to have a birthday dinner at Fandango. It has been a favorite restaurant for many years. The quality of the food and service are outstanding.
For that special dinner this should be your choice. The service is incredible ! The food was delicious. I’ve been to 5 star restaurants, but the snooty factor kicks in and spoils the experience. The entire service staff at Fandango’s apparently likes working there and that becomes 75% of your experience. Enjoy !
Have been dining at Fandangos since 1982. Always good!
Fabulous restaurant and staff!
Great food and wonderful service! Always ready to help with special requests
Wonderful meal in a wonderful setting. The rack of lamb and paella were excellent. Neither my friend nor I could finish the ample portions and will enjoy them tomorrow. I encourage you to order the soufflé, it was amazing.
Juan, our server, was great! The food was a mixed bag. I enjoyed the duck, my wife had the sand dabs and they were pretty bland. We ordered the grand marnier soufflé for dessert which was awesome. We ate in the “wine cellar” room which was pretty small and had three tables, only two of which were occupied. The table of four seated next to us was very loud and pretty much whined all evening about all kinds of things, it was obnoxious to have to listen to them but we were essentially trapped. Should we return we won’t make the mistake of sitting in this small room again. Overall, a good meal. Some of the entrees, especially the “specials,” were ridiculously priced.
Food was great, little pricey. Service was stretched thin and try not to sit in first section inside door as very drafty every time someone opened front door a cold breeze blew through. Overall positive experience
I go to Fandango for the sand dabs. They are prepared extraordinarily well. Paired with a Castroville Artichoke and a nice Chardonnay- one of my favorite meals ever!
This was a fabulous place to eat! The service was exceptional, the food was fabulous and we had a wonderful time. We were celebrating our 31st wedding anniversary
Fandango was the highlight of our vacation. The food and the service was outstanding and all we hoped it would be. All future visits to Monterey will include at least one visit to Fangango.
Just a delightful experience all around. Service, food, ambiance, low noise level.
I have eaten at Fandango many times, but this time I was disappointed with the sand dabs. In my opinion they were not sand dabs. The fillets were too large and thick to be sand dabs. The fillets were probably petrale sole. The fillets were cooked perfectly and were tasty.
Why not just call the fillets what they are. I don't think you would sell any less.
Take this for what it's worth. If I am wrong please forgive me.
Don't worry you are not going to lose me as a customer over this.
Seated in the cellar. Very nice. Really enjoined the room. Ordered Surf & Turf ($75)
Ordered my steak medium rare. Served WELL done and was sliced, for some reason. I told server that steak is extra well done and I ordered it medium rare. He agreed and brought me another one the that was basically raw. I ate around the edges and didn't say anything. The lobster was over seasoned with paprika or some other type of seasoning. Not a good meal at all. The other 3 guest enjoyed what they ordered.
I might recommend Fandango's to a friend but would tell them to stay away from the Surf & Turf.
