Amazing food and amazing service! Best Chinese in San Francisco!
Great place. I love the Fangs. Place is cool, fun and they are always innovating!
FANG was a big surprise. A rather plain restaurant with great food, service and value. Fang himself came over to our table and introduced himself. We had told the restaurant that one of our party had to have gluten free food. He knew this and when we told him this was our first visit, he said he would order for us. His choices were great, everything was varied, interesting and delicious. As each dish came out, the server told us whether it was gluten free or not. A great place and we'll return soon.
The food came swimming in oil, and was very unappetizing. Will not go back, ever!
I brought my sister here, visiting from New Jersey, and she raved about the food. It was one of the highlights of her trip.
I used to be a fan of Fang restaurant. But the day when we visited with guests, I felt it very awkward. Instead of leaving choice to guests or taking feedback from guests on what they like or dislike, allergy information, fang team has decided their own choices. I know their food is good but guest service is also equally important.
Great and unique dishes.
One of my favorite Chinese restaurant s in the world. If you have Kathy or her father helping, just ask them to serve what they recommend. I have been there many times for lunch and dinner ( thought I don t live in SF ) and even when I take locals they are amazed that they had never been there.
We really loved the food and ambiance but there was no beer and the cocktails were not good. Also we felt rushed to leave.
We had only picked one thing by the time the server came to take our order, so they offered to pick some things for us. That was great, we got a nice variety of dishes, but it ended up being ~$30/person, which in my opinion is on the steep side for lunch on a weekday. The dumplings with eggplants were great; there was another set of pork bao that were also good; the sugar snap peas were just ok; there was a friend shrimp and pork dish; and also a fried rice dish. It was plenty of food for a group of 4 people.
Wonderful meal, friendly service.
The food was ok... That was a bit pricey for the quality especially in SF where there are so many other choices. The pictures showed a beautiful restaurant where you can even go for a business meeting as it is next to the Moscone convention center. It is actually very dusty, completely outdated. The lamps, the statues, everything is covered with dust, not sure when they changed their filters last I think never... We were very surprised nothing is said or done yet. The service was ok, nothing outstanding. That's too bad as some deep cleaning, not torn and dirty menus, better service, and better quality of food would change completely this restaurant.
The food is the only reason i would even consider going back. The Staff ( hostess, food servers, even the owner) seemed too occupied to care about a seated at a table. We had to ask for water over and over, forget about getting a mixed drink or bar drink. The server assigned to our section knew very little if any English so she kept asking others for help; apparently they were tired of helping her so they ignored her... and us for that matter. Very frustrated we walked out, after reluctantly paying.
The food however is very good, and was ready quickly. I would recommend this restaurants with a disclaimer based solely on the staff.
The service was non existent. We had to get up literally to catch a server’s attention. Finally one man got things squared away and we started getting attention. The food is good - not exceptional- but enjoyable. The Salt and Pepper fish was the best of what we ordered. It is very loud and we seated at a round table, group conversation was all but impossible. No dessert except for Sesame balls. We will not go back
Great dinner. Food was so good!!
Service extremely cold and non-personal. 2 of 3 guests almost done with entree’s before third entree arrived. Food for another table brought to our table. Charged for drinks we didn’t have.
The pictures they show of the restaurant are not the same as the restaurant itself (or maybe there’s a separate area I don’t know about). Other than that, the food is delicious! We had Chef Fang himself choose our meal, and he didn’t disappoint!
Food is really good, doesn’t really come out as a meal but instead in some random order, service is so BAD it takes your breath away.
Arrived and was told there would be a longer wait for a small table for two...even though we had reservations. They did not seem to care, so we left and went elsewhere.
The food is always very good. The service needs attention. We waited a long time to be served and then they rush through it.
We loved the flavors and presentation. Really a fun dining experience. We love the chef, Peter. He takes a personal interest in the diners.
Fang is an absolutely fantastic Chinese restaurant. The owner, Peter, came over and was friendly and thanked us for coming. You will be hard-pressed to find portions and quality of Chinese food this great anywhere in the bay area.
Chefs choice option is always a fun time.
Dirty table. Tables very close to each other. Very noisy. Didn’t stay for the food.
A presentable Chinese restaurant to have business lunches. Love the food and the service. Improvement: Our table might happen to be sticky else it would be 5 stars feedback from us.
Service is "OK" but the food is of great quality, fresh and overall very good. My biggest nitpick is the fact that the serving dishes are MASSIVE relative to the amount of food that is served. Ordering more than 2 items off the menu means your short on table space.
A little annoying but not enough to take away from the delicious food.
Some of the best food I’ve ever had! We went back a second time during a 6 day stay and it was just as great!
We usually enjoy eating at Fang but this time the sesame chicken had much more sweet potato than chicken and most of the breaded chicken pieces had barely any chicken.
The beef tower was mostly bok choy..
The flavors were good but the dishes did not contain enough protein to vegetable retio.
The owner asked us if it was our first time dining here, we said yes. He immediately picks up all the menus and say he’ll order for us. I asked him what are you going to bring out and he said it’s a surprise. As a chef, I was skeptical to trust him, but it was the best decision. All the food was amazing and reasonably priced.
This was our second visit to Fang, as our first, we allowed the owner to pick our entrees and we were not disappointed by his choices! The food was fresh, delicious, and plentiful!
The owner (Fang) came by our table to ask if we had ever been to the restaurant before. When I sad no, he asked to let him prepare a menu for us and he promised we will be happy. Dinner was delivered and we loved the personalized touch.
We had a phenomenal experience. The Chef came to our table and introduced himself and said that he would prepare the food for us. It was the BEST Chinese food I have ever had in a restaurant. I highly recommend the place and will visit again if my travels take me back to San Francisco.
We were a party of 7 and Fang himself ordered dinner for us--great dishes kept surprising us one after another. Good professional and pleasant service. So glad we chose Fang for dinner with friends--can't wait to go back!
Food was average to good, lack presentation. The Mongolian beef was not what I expected for flavor or amount but the overall value for the meal was ok.
4 of us ordered from the menu, not just ordering a protein and leaving it up to the chef. Dumplings delicious, in a sauce that was extraordinary. Friends enjoyed the sesame chicken. I had the short ribs, now I know why it's a signature dish! The meat was super tender, with a crispy exterior that was unlike anything I ever had before. Nice beer selection. Glad I reserved a table, as restaurant was busy on a Thursday night. Highly recommend.
As usual, Kat Fang delivered what can only be called one of the best Chinese Fusion meals I've ever had. The food, the ambiance, and the service are among the best in the US. I can see why Kat Fang is considered one of the best and creative chef's in the country. Well done and thank you Kat!
Mr. Fang took our menus and said he’d pick the food and take care of us. The two dishes we asked for were not included in what was served. The food he gave us was mediocre at best. Without drinks the cost was over $50.00 per person. Recommend avoiding this restaurant.
Chef Fang was very attentive. It was our first time so he "took care of us" and ordered several great specials. We look forward to returning.
Server chose our entire meal and it was fantastic. Not just great, fantastic. Highly recommended.
