Awesome food. Great service
Was in town on business from Fort Lauderdale Florida
Would dine here again when I’m back again
Waited 30 mins to sit for an 8 pm reservation. Slow to take our order after having waited, and then we struggled to get a server’s attention throughout the meal. Food was good but expensive.
No service at all at this restaurant. Lots of people waiting to be seated but no one was there to keep everything in place. People who came in last got seated first. During the meal, no one checked in. Waited 30 mins for one dish and tables came in later with same order got their food faster. Had to push multiple times to have the food
My sister was in town for one day, celebrating her birthday. She is vegan. The place I planned to take her was booked, and then I remembered how accommodating Fang is to people with special diets. We did away with ordering from the menu, and let the house serve us what they wanted. Everything was delicious, and some dishes were even made separately for the vegan and the meat eaters. We love this place and also House of Nanking, the mother restaurant. Thanks for a wonderful time!
Food was ok. They seemed uninterested in the fact that we were there. Food was expensive for a Chinese rest. and not worth the high price. Small tables and huge plates made it also a bit awkward.
This was a friend's recommendation and she did not disappoint. Fang's store front is almost hidden and the inside is nothing fancy, but the food was delicious. Our friend suggested we let the host/owner decide what we should eat and he did. The food just kept coming out. I am guessing were served at least six different platers from steak, shrimp, meatball, pork dumplings, fried rice, egg plant and a uniquely presented dessert. Our party of four also ordered three beers and a tea.
Our total bill came to $200 with a tip. We would definitely go back for the food, service and value.
Many pieces of chicken had gristle in it. The brown rice was overcooked. Service was perfunctory. I was given paper napkins and an old water glass while everyone other table had cloth napkins and fancy water glasses. I cannot believe this place had consistently good recommendations.
Food was excellent. Service is quirky but owner is super nice. Do it. Very good food.
Fantastic meal and service. Let the chef select the dishes for you. You will not be disappointed!!!!
Highly, highly recommend.
Why do you make people answer 20 questions for a review? Really annoying, OpenTable
Very very good!
Excellent food, coming back for my birthday!
I have been eating Peter Fang's – and now his daughter's – food for over 25 years. It started with discovering The House of Nanking, and later when Fang opened, I have usually chosen Fang (both are excellent).
The Fang's mix of sweet and savory is exquisite. Definitely Chinese, yet surprisingly new and different, Peter's recipes always dazzle. I rarely request an item from the menu, or even from memory, preferring to simply ask Peter to cook for the table. He comes over, asks about food allergies, personal preferences, and then minutes later, the table begins to fill with pure delicious magic.
I highly recommend Fang. If you're smart, don't bother with the menu. Ask to speak with Peter, or his daughter, and then wait to be delighted. You will be.
I've consistently REALLY enjoyed the food every time I've visited, and have always felt well taken care of by the staff. Still surprised at how many people haven't heard of this hidden gem, it's a delightful experience I always enjoy introducing to friends and business associates.
The owner and staff were wonderful. We were served with dishes selected by the owner and all were so delicious!
It was Fang-tastic. Mr. Fang was able to accommodate for multiple dietary restrictions while delivering a delicious meal. Everything tasted extremely fresh.
The owner Mr Fang insisted on selecting the menu for us and I have to say after a little trepidation it was a good bet. Every single item and dish was delicious and the whole experience was great.
The food is delicious, with unique Chinese dishes. The owner is always willing to help you pick your menu for the evening - simply tell him what you won't eat and he will take care of the rest.
This restaurant was very poorly organized. We had a reservation, and they weren’t able to accommodate us because their kitchen was not up and running. It did not appear clean inside. We did not die in here.
Slow service. Inattentive wait staff.
Underwhelming. Food was cold. Restaurant is untidy and it was a very blah experience.
Service members did not come to table after delivering food until requested . Food was good but not all correct
We arrived asked for two dinners and beer. Peter took it from there. Generous portions of tasty stuff. Enough to take home. All worked out.
The owner is rude. He didnt want to let us order our own food. He even tossed a menu at someone saying “you think you know more than me.”
Pretty great spot for those int eh area for the many events. Very different take on some old favorites. Haas its own personality. Has full bar but it would seem most do not ask for those types of adult beverage. But we were able to get two rounds of great cocktails. Shrimp dumplings a big hit. House special beef was outstanding. We will return for sure. Only down was the interior seemed a bit dark and run down.
Absolutely terrible service. Such rude servers. Took an hour to get our food
Had colleague and friend visiting from out of town for a conference in Moscone and chose this nearby Chinese restaurant. Chief greeted us and asked if we had ever been there before, we had not so he placed orders for us and we sat back and enjoyed the meal. Terrific meal with fang’s Peking buns (pork belly laid in folded bun), sautéed pork dumplings (with eggplant), crispy honey chili short rib (with chili peppers whole), salt and pepper prawns with mushrooms (and onions), salted pork belly with Japanese pumpkin, and House special fried rice with shrimp and veggies, finished off with sesame balls for dessert. Was amazing. ($160 pretip). Had a wonderful time and delicious meal. Very convenient to convention center. Had a downstairs portion for large parties
Excellent restaurant. Staff and owners provided great service. Owner actually ordered all our food for us and couldn’t have done a better job. An amazing experience.
Mr. Fang himself took care of us! He brought us an amazing selection of food and it was the perfect amount for our group. We all left extremely happy and full and wanting to come back!!
Horrible service and really bad food.
Fang went from one of my favorite restaurants to one I will likely not patronize again in one fell swoop. Strangely, it was almost empty on a Saturday night, and it has always been packed every time i’ve visited before. Nonetheless, the host was aggressively rude, striding away without speaking to us, giving no indication that he expected us to follow to our table. We sat unattended for 15 minutes before finally getting service. The spareribs, described as a house specialty (and usually glorious) were dry and overdone. The fried rice, prepared at the table was mush and flavorless (again, a shocking departure). We paid our bill as quickly as possible and I doubt we will ever try again. Really sad decline.
Great restaurant- come every time in town in SF.
Excellent food! Don’t order from the menu but ask the chef to prepare you something. You won’t be disappointed.
While the food was good, I felt very mislead — though the website mentions the ability to hos private parties, nowhere is it prominently mentioned that all guests are given set, prixe-fixe menu. Their menus online (including on Yelp) show prices next to dishes — this lead me to believe you could order from the menu and pay the listed price. Unfortunately, this was not the case. The food is tasty, but the style of restaurant — not being able to order a single dish from a menu and always paying a set rate — needs to be prominently noted. Our company dinner here twice the allotted budget, since this was not made clear.
Fang owner took control of ordering for us and everything was awesome.
RETURNED FOR A SECOND VISIT TWO DAYS FOLLOWING MY FIRST VISIT WHILE IN SAN FRANCISCO. JUST HAD TO GO BACK FOR MORE OF THIS DELICIOUS FOOD. HAD DIFFERENT DISHES FROM THE MEAL TWO NIGHTS EARLIER AND IT WAS FANTASTIC AND STILL THE BEST CHINESE FOOD I HAVE EATEN. IF YOU LIKE CHINESE FOOD YOU WILL LOVE FANG.
Best Chinese food ever! Found this place 9 years ago and this was first opportunity to return since. It was great back then and even better now. Not to be missed.
Service was terrible. Wrong orders, no water refills, had to ask for our check long after table was cleared, restaurant less than half full, and multiple wait staff standing within feet of our table doing nothing. Food was decent, but way overpriced for that poor or service.
On the website it looks like a design and lounge place but it’s small and smelly and the food is over covered in sauce. The service is very very basic, bier in a bottle type of service.
