Das Essen hat sehr gut geschmeckt. Uns wurde ein Familienmenü empfohlen, was passed war.
Convenient: right around the corner from SF MOMA, so it was high on Open Table’s nearby lunch suggestions. Judging by appearances and staff actions, we questioned the management’s commitment to keeping the place clean. Small space was noisy--could have been cozier. Found the whitefish that we ordered was limper and gamier than expected from other reviews. Great-tasting zucchini with garlic (dried/powdered not fresh), though. Goji green tea in a large glass mug offered a welcome refuge. Otherwise pleasant service staff ignored our party of two for 20 minutes after we had pretty much finished our meal.
Staff was inattentive, restaurant empty, food mediocre. I ate here before the pandemic and it was fantastic. Not sure what changed, but I wouldn't go again.
Super rushed, had a reservation for 8:00 and they were cleaning the entire restaurant and rushing us to leave at 8:30. If they close super early then don’t keep a late reservation timing like 8 o’clock. Food came within minutes of ordering and even though it was good, the entire meal was extremely rushed and servers were incredibly rude.
Great food, server was very kind and helpful. Service was fast and courteous. One of my favorite spots.
I celebrated my birthday here with a large group and the staff was very accommodating to everyone’s requests. Food was delicious. 10/10
Met Chef Kathy. We asked for a chef’s choice meal & it was amazing.
The food at FANG is excellent! High quality ingredients and creative presentation. It was such a treat to enjoy a variety of wonderful dishes again with a group of friends. FANG truly has some of the best Chinese food in the Bay Area (this coming from a former Hong Kong resident) and the prices are incredibly reasonable. Staff are great and make everyone feel like family.
Incredible food, incredible service, the location was perfect and I cannot wait to return!
Food was tasty. But the service was slow to start. Took awhile to get menus etc. but once they came to take the order it was very rushed from there, including the pressure to pay.
The Fang family rocks!!!!
Hugh from alaska!
Have to say one of my favorite casual yet elegantly delicious restaurants in the city! Have big party dinners here and you will be delighted with a family meal experience to remember. Mr. Fang will often host and enjoy sharing his passion for authentic, amazing food at his restaurants! Thank you FANG for a great dinner!!
Hands down the best Chinese food ever! We had the chiefs recommendations and everything was delicious. Go here for the food…you won’t be disappointed.
Our party of 16 was accommodated at a long table which seated us all. We had very good service and everything was well presented and delicious. We badly over ordered as some of our party was delayed and ordered without realizing an initial order had been placed! We've been to Famg before and intend to visit again soon!
Poor service. Will not come back
Service was so lacking. Food was good as usual. Didn’t feel like staff cared about much. Normally the service is on point. These servers were maybe too busy to care. We saw 2 tables leave during our meal.
I like this place a lot and have even done special events here. Maybe it’s pandemic attitude. But hope they turn it around. And the one waiter looked like he just rolled out of bed and barely said anything to us and then when food came he just kinda threw it down.
Normally the owner is there greeting. Today maybe it was his son who didn’t want to be there. SMH
Good service and food.
Food is great!! So glad they are back open for business! It’s been a long time!
Loved the food since we got some really personal service from one of the chefs. The food tasted perfect despite our dietary restrictions!
This place is seriously tired, messy and cluttered. The food is not that good and overpriced for what it was.
We enjoyed our visit. Potstickers and hot & sour soup were the best! The other items we ordered-fried rice, short ribs, chicken dish were just ok. Super fast and courteous service. Nice ambience.
Dam good food. My only complaint was the Spicy Items were not spicy at all.
I was disappointed with my experience at Fang. I was very excited to dine here originally. I had a reservation for 8:15pm and arrived at 8:23pm and was told we could not have dinner because they had already turned off the cooking equipment for the night. Ultimately reservations should not be taken in such close proximity to closing if the reservation cannot be honored.
Always take advice from the owner. This is the second time we did this and everything was excellent once again.
The food is always good!!! You will not disappointed!
Food was enjoyable but service and atmosphere bad. Cleaning table right next to us and dragged out dirty container to put dishes in and then dragged container accross the floor. Expected much more for a restaurant in the heart of the city.
Amazing! Food is always so excellent here, love the vibe and the service is top notch!! Highly recommend!!
I love this restaurant. We ask the chef to give us dishes s/he thinks are great and we offer our restrictions, e.g., 2 vegetarians, 1 person gluten-free - and it works out really well.
Service and entree was cold.
We went with a party of nine youngest was 7 yrs old ordered almost everything on the menu lol everything was Delish!
A great stop for post-SFMOMA. I had the salt-and-pepper shrimp - yum! He had his favorite, short ribs, though they weren’t as good as usual. The pieces of meat were kind of small. I love the menu here - not your typical Chinese food. The service was a little slow, and their web site needs to be updated because it says they are open continuously from lunch through dinner, but we were rushed out because they closed at 2, and our reservation was at 1:30. I think the prices went up since the last time we went there - they were kind of high.
The food was good but as a SF resident wasn't incredibly impressed. They handled a group very well once we sat down, but we did have to wait a long time to be sat despite having a reservation. We had added 2 additional people to our group earlier that day and they asked us to come an hour earlier than the original reservation to accommodate the change. That was fine, but we did have to rush our plans and it was a little annoying to show up earlier just to wait for like 15-20 minutes to sit. On top of that, when I went to check in with someone (no one was at host stand) I let them know we were here but there was no communication, such as "OK we're working on the table..", nothing... and then other customers in line were VERY miffed that I went over to talk to someone, and they were talking crap to me despite my reservation being before theirs. The lack of communication with people in line created a really uncomfortable situation where I the customer was being aggressively spoken to by frustrated customers because I was trying to see what was going on.
PS - TO BE CLEAR : our server was amazing and she handled our group AMAZINGLY and was super nice and I am grateful to her! Nothing about our service at the actual table was poor. The only bad experience was the situation leading up to sitting at the table.
We made a special weekend trip to SF and Fang was the first of the three restaurants we had scheduled. We booked Fang because of Kathy Fang's fame of being a two-time Chopped Champion that we had seen as foodies on the Food Network.
Fang's seemed to be a tired restaurant, with an uninspiring standard Cantonese Chinese menu fare - decor and news-clippings that had seen better days. The food was good but all the dishes were dropped all at once (hurried Chinese-style) by our waiter who was wearing the House of Nanking T-shirt, whom we knew from the show is Kathy Fang's family restaurant. I absolutely hate when appetizers and dinner dishes hit the table at the same time - so I'm biased about this kind of service.
We got the signature dish of savory meat baos, eggplant and some beef with greens. As I said, standard Chinese fare, not the creativity of the show at all. Well cooked yes but standard local neighborhood Chinese food and service - not Food Network stuff at all. Disappointing overall but good food only when we were looking for spectacular.
No existe, llegamos y estaba cerrado , se veían 2 mesa sucias con platos con restos de comida pero el lugar estaba como abandonado muy raro
Every dish is an experience and a taste adventure. The food is aromatic and delicious.
Tasty, flavorful food served in a fine dining atmosphere with impeccable service. Not to miss if you like good chinese food.
Food was all delicious. Service was excellent. Portions were big. We may have over orders. Got wonton soup which was a unique. Wontons and what tasted like a toasted rice in it. Fried rice was made at the table. Did not really taste the pork but was tasty. Shrimp and apples was delicious. My husband got a steak dish with peppers. Even enjoyed my blossoming tea. We enjoyed our meal.
Beautiful restaurant literally a few steps from Moma. Great menu with many unique dishes.
