Super fresh fish, price was not too bad but for the freshness of the fish, well worth it.
Super high quality sushi. Great service, I get sick of the stupid “mayo” sauce everyone uses these days and they had no problems not adding it to their rolls for me. A lil bit small cuts of fish on the nigiri for the price though, definitely a lil chincy in that respect. Sushi dinner is gonna cost you a good amount.
Wonderful experience! We sat at the sushi bar (highly recommend) so we learned a lot from the knowledgeable and friendly sushi chefs. They are truly artists - every detail in their preparation of the food was purposeful. Highly recommend the experience at the sushi bar!
It was me and my mom and it was quiet food was outstanding and the noise was reasonable very
Probably the best restaurant in the upper peninsula. Service and food are top notch!
Way too overpriced for what it is!
The quality of the fish is excellent! I feel like I’m eating at a Sushi restaurant in Tokyo. They stick to tradition.
We were a party of 12 for a client dinner. From the minute we walked in the door it was 5 star service. The food was delicious, the drinks were perfect. Highly recommend.
We were using this restaurant first time for the business meeting. It is very kindly attitude and good taste , too. I would like to recommend this restaurant.
The food was very aesthetic and very fresh. The best octopus I’ve ever had.
We will be back.
Incredibly good sushi. Incredibly redicoulose prices for saki.
The restaurant is small with a nice feel and quiet. The service was extremely good the waitress let us try six different sakes before we ordered each of our glasses each of sake and plum wine.
From reading most of the other reviews I took the tip of ordering à la cart and from both the Japanese fresh offerings their regular menu and think that was a good choice. The notable ones were the occur with truffle the Otoro. The fish was actually quite flavorful very fresh only complaint really was that the portion of fish was rather small but the quality of the fish was definitely there. Also had the monkfish liver which was very good. The black sesame ice cream was actually one of the best that we’ve had for many years large single scoop with real rich flavor.
I would give an overall rating of eight out of 10 stars it’s a good quality sushi when you want a more peaceful quiet environment and don’t mind spending a bit more. True there are other sushi restaurants with much better omakase with larger portions had a better value but there are times where you might want a quiet evening with good quality fish and don’t mind spending a bit more. The other thing that makes this restaurant a bit unique is the large amount of sake selections and the ability to also have a bath as a large cup three shots of different sakes or a very large carafe.
Hard to find parking. Owner and staff parked all the spot in front of the restaurant
We've been here several times. The fish is really delicious and well-prepared. Definitely recommend for sushi/sashimi lovers. Their sake flights are also amazing! Unique sakes, smooth and floral; I think it's enough for 2 to share. Also, the sake sommelier was extra friendly and nice. Atmosphere is friendly and casual. It's great for a casual date night for quality food.
Perfect dining spot before/after flight from SFO. Friendly staff, good lunch specials and wide variety of sushi/sashimi.
Been coming here for years, but tonight’s dinner was truly disappointing. Took over 50 mins for omakase entrees to come out. Restaurant was at 50% capacity. Nigiri from omakase was half of usual size. Simple fish was served as deluxe. Waitress was inexperienced as she kept checking with us what we had received already, at one time bringing the ticket out to check off.
Until I asked another waitress why it’s taking so long, she went to back and brought it right out as it was sitting in back. Staff turnover seem high as there were no one in charge of the floor as before. $286.00 check was very upsetting.
This is the second time we had to wait so long for the meal, but tonight they were not even busy. Very sad to see that this is our final time there.
Great service!! Awesome food!
Service was excellent. Food was just ok, like any other Japanese restaurant. Hard to find parking, so give yourself plenty of time to find a spot in the neighborhood.
Don’t be fooled by the appearance of the building, I was a little concerned when I saw it but was fabulous inside. These people know sushi!
Gintei serves great sushi at a good price in San Francisco area. Only 5-10 minutes from the airport!
Best sushi on the Peninsula, Tokyo style, great sake list too
You will have a great experience. The sushi was excellent, especially the omakase at the counter. Their fishes were so fresh, it made trying new fishes very easy. On your first visit, I recommend the omakase. The tempura was good but I didn't think it rose to the caliber of their sushi. Their beer and sake menu is also excellent and will help elevate your meal no matter which ones you choose.
We went here for husbands birthday. Ahhh...what a disappointment The price is way too much for the experience and the food...Come on....Very disappointing....OMG...The sushi is no better than restraunts downtown SB that is 1/3 the cost of this dinner. We are foodies...for the money of Gintei our party of 6 expected more. Fish Tempura...too greasy and to thick ...3 prawn and 2 scallops, and 2 thin small piece of some kind of white fish...1 long mushroom for $18.00.that you could not bite through...the stem...we all were laughing watching my husband try to bite threw...expecially when we hear snap. The wasabi had no spice to it. The Gentri Maki roll soft shell crab roll was flat...no flavor at all...Also the crab was cooked twice (over browned and no flavor. My son and husband had mixed 12 piece sushi for 65.00. They both said it was fishy and not good for the price...they were both shocked and disappointed. The reviews were good...what....??? Father in law has fried chicken..actually they said it was the best part of dinner. Son had tempura again we were looking for lightly deep fried...but....greesy and thick. He also had a California Roll...(He said it was good) But the presentation...NONE.....and the portion for 6 small pieces...! So boring....The woman working their were nice...but again...nothing another Japanese Restraunt would not do for you..All in all...Don't waist your money....promise you will thank me. My suggestion would be to get some flavors in your meals, Add some music to your environment. And LOWER your prices...Too bad...!!
Best Japanese food we’ve had in the area. My boyfriend is half Japanese, with high standards for his taste in Japanese food restaurants, and he had a huge grin on his face the entire evening. Can’t wait to go back.
This place is amazing. Highly recommend! It is one of the best sushi restaurants I've even been to, and I've had a lot of sushi in my life...
Best sashimi and sushi in the Bay Area!!
Always have great dinner here with the sushi chef
This restaurant is overrated. The food was good, but over priced and the service was terrible.
I'm in the minority here for sure. Food was good but not $100+ good. My wife (Japanese) pointed out that a Japanese restaurant we like in SF is better and much less expensive. Atmosphere was fine but surprisingly loud and lively. This had more of an izakaya feel. It's all fine. It's a nice restaurant. I get it. I think there are better values. For $150 for two there are a ton of great restaurants in the Bay Area (starting with Chapeau!).
Some of the BEST sushi I've had in the Bay Area! My husband and I really enjoyed the rolls, the miso and the salad. The staff was friendly and attentive.
Delicious sushi elegantly presented by artisan chefs, together with impeccable service and thoughtful hosts make this a wonderful experience!
This is the best sushi I have had in the States. Outstanding! Quite impressive. I will bring sushi lovers here and recommend to others. Well done!
wonderful sushi, esp. omasake for very good price! Best Japanese on the peninsula, easily outdoing all the expensive fancy places in burlingame or san mateo. friendly people , definitely a special treat!
Very good sushi but felt overpriced
Seems like many of the nigiri and roll was somehow infused with heavy uni flavor. Some may enjoy that .... I didn’t. I found it overpowering.
Always the best Japanese restaurant. We love this place and Always look forward to dining here. I recommend the uni (best I've ever had), salmon carpacio, live lobster, all the sake and the ice cream selection. Customer service is always on point.
Since we are not sushi and sashimi aficionados, it is not fair to rate overall. What we did have are tempura, very good; agedashi tofu, good; braised mushrooms, fair; thin noodles; good. They did not have pork belly which was our first choice.
Great food, terrible service, not a great value overall.
Getting sushi and sashimi took forever. It took about 1 hour to get two orders of sake (4 pieces). I owned Japanese restaurants before, and to slice 4 pieces and put them on rice (taking an hour) is ridiculous.
