Grand Central Oyster Bar
As always, food was great. And as usual, service was "meh." Non-attentive, cattle-call feeling to the service. After taking our order, we never saw our waiter again until he came around (as we were almost finished with entrees) asking if we wanted to buy more booze. Getting plates cleared, water refilled, etc., wasn't any better. I don't know why we keep going back.
After hearing great things about the Oyster Bar, my wife and I were deeply disappointed. The host was less than welcoming and the server was not inviting at all, it seemed as though he couldn’t be bothered. The space is dingy and in disrepair. All of this could be slightly overlooked if the food was fantastic, but it was not. We will not be returning.
It was nothing like we expected. The food was very poor quality. Our soup arrived cold, salmon was not cooked through and when I mentioned this to the waiter, he stated it was meant to be this way. NO IT WAS NOT!!
My husband ordered calamari with Italian sauce expecting large pieces of calamari and a lovely sauce. What he received was tiny pieces of cheap fried calamari with tartare sauce from a cheap bottle. It could have been
so much better from chefs who cared about the food they served.
It also felt like we were in a big food hall, not an iconic NY restaurant. So much room for improvement at the prices that are charged.
Will not be advising anyone to dine here.
Great restaurant to go to especially if you are coming into the city at Grand Central and doing anything in midtown.
A great restaurant in an iconic place Grand Central Station. The ambiance is elegant, food was delicious, lively crowd, the best of the NYC experience. Not to be missed for the seafood lover!!!!!
Heard about this before we left and it didnt disappoint. Great venue, good value and the clam chowder was amazing. Recommend a visit.
The restaurant has a feel of a diner
Es mas la fama que otra cosa. La comida es buena sin ser espectacular. Bastante caro y el servicio bastante regular
Very crowded & noisy, even in the saloon tonight. But the fried whole belly clams were delicious, the perfect amount of crunch in the breading, followed by the juicy center of the clam. The lobster pan roast was also mouth wateringly tasty. a large tureen filled with lobster stock and huge chunks of delicate, tender lobster meat. Add a pack of oyster crackers and it’s like heaven in a bowl.
Service is prompt, friendly, efficient, and unpretentious. Great place to dine.
Always a good atmosphere and convenient. Service is good and food as well.
Have loved sitting in the saloon forever! Excellent waitstaff, delicious oysters, great wine pairings (by sharing award winners at top of menu). Will return on every trip to NY. Always.
The only reason I would recommend the Oyster Bar is for OYSTERS! and eating them at the BAR. The tables are crowded and it felt like a cafeteria...I ordered sea bass and it was dry, tastelss with overcooked vegetable. We got one roll that was chewy and not warm along with lavasch crackers from a box. Can't tell you how disappointing that dinner was. Thank goodness I odered half a dozen oysters to start. the only thing i could finish...terrible food.
We’re only in NYC once per year and love to meet at The Oyster Bar. Late lunchtime is quieter.
Best oysters we have ever had, wonderful seafood and dining experience.
I had good memories of the restaurant going back 20 years.
It was a major disappointment.
The service was very slow and surly.
The food was indifferent at best.
All 5 of us rated it very badly
Very disappointed. Cold food (soup and french fries). Asked waiter for bread, but he never brought it.
Entrees undistinguished. Out of most deserts when we ordered. Avoid.
Exceptional good quality
Ordered bouillabaisse to share for an appetizer and then a large raw seafood platter, and six cherrystones with side of creamed spinach for two of us for dinner. Couple glasses of wine. Everything came at the same time on a very small table. Bouillabaisse wasn't split, no nut crackers for the lobster, creamed spinach was cold. Sent the spinach back, when it came back plate was hot but spinach was luke warm. Yes, just nuked. Raw seafood was mostly good, cherrystones great, bouillabaisse good. Nice room but dusty chandelier over us. Took a while to get the waiters attention on cold spinach and lack of crackers and then to get bill.
Good service good food a bit pricey but its in Grand Central station
The food was mediocre, particularly given the prices.
None of the things I requested thru opentable were taken it to consideration... service was horrible.
We made a reservation and got right in. The initial service was excellent- but after we ordered the service fell off significantly. We didn’t seem to see the same server twice. We had to flag someone down for additional drinks.
Food was just ok. Not hot when delivered. Tasted good.
There was a disgusting flood in the men’s room during our meal that no one seemed concerned with. Brown water all over the floor so most of the bathroom was unusable.
Overall it felt like there was poor management on that shift.
The restaurant is nice and service is good. The waiter served us patiently with some.recommendations for my choices. Food is good.
Took our sons for a Birthday celebration.
We had a ball. Food and service were excellent.
Making it a tradition.
Wait staff started resetting table before we even got up to leave...inattentive waiters
Nice place to relax and enjoy excellent oysters. Very friendly and helpfull staff.
Lackluster food not worth the price. If the mediocre sole mueniere was $25 instead of $45, I’d have left satisfied...
We had dinner here after a matinee show on an early Wednesday evening and it was a good time to be there. Not too crowded, although, we had made reservations. Excellent food and service. We tried several fresh oysters and they were delicious. Both entrees and desserts were great too. Our server was very helpful in making recommendations on wine and food. The only draw back is everything happened really fast. We would have preferred the courses be paced out more as we weren't in a rush to go anywhere else. Otherwise, we would definitely go back.
Fue buena la comida. Muy mala la atención. Muy por abajo de nuestras expectativas. Le quedó el nombre.
A true N.Y. institution . Dozens of tourists whispering into the corners of the entrance to hear the sound travel diagonally across the arch. The same charming feature makes the dinning room very loud. Less charming, but the fish remains the freshest, best prepared and often different in NY.
We ordered three pieces each for five kinds but they didn’t take out order. Instead they offered two pieces each for six kinds. Other than that we enjoyed the dinner.
No more of one type of the choosen oysters, no more bouillabaisse and no apologizes !
The decor/history/location is awesome, but the whole place was full of tourists in t-shirts staring at their phones while they eat french fries. We thought it would be an old-world, classy affair. It ended up being an overpriced cafeteria.
We dined at a quiet time. and enjoyed s perfect table. Our wait staff got all our orders in
and explained the specials. I enjoy the value of the seafood and we eat oysters every time
we dine. There is no other space so well located that gives me comfort with seafood.
Had to wait 45min for 12 oysters - ordered a Maine Fresh lobster: not well cooked, almost raw in some parts and plenty of water inside - just a small plate a side to eat on. Not well organized service.
Terribly overpriced---I was also over billed. -just received notice this morning. Anyway as a long time customer, I think I'm not going back.
Classic restraint in New York. Great soup and decorations. Waiter had no hospitality, it hesitate me for leaving chips, busperson was polite and wished he served me. I’m not sure it is because I was alone and ordered less. Since it was great food, I am disappointed.
I have recommended this establishment for many years. But not anymore. It is much overpriced and thé food not tasteful.
The food and ambience were lovely. One of the waiters, however, was extremely rude - he came over, counted the tip we’d provided, then scoffed and rejected it. Never experienced such shocking rudeness. A real shame as the place itself and the rest of the staff were lovely. Hope the coat lady enjoyed the tip we gave her instead :) x
