Hakkasan - San Francisco
Great food !
Food is beautifully done, unique tastes, something that I can not duplicate. It’s an experience.
Beautiful evening with friends, outstanding family, service ambiance. The wine paring was excellent.
Great experience in celebrating two birthdays.
Excellent food and great service- 5 stars
Perfection as always. Food was delicious. Service is always on point.
This is the fifth or sixth time that I have eaten at Hakkasan. The food is always excellent, but this time the cost of the lunch for two without alcohol or tip was $176! That was excessive for what we ate. I have recommended the restaurant to many people, but will not do so in the future.
I've reviewed Hakkasan several times here over the years. Food is consistently very good. However more often than not, the service is not in the same league as the food. We spent $200 a head for a party of 7...yes there were several bottles of champagne and more than one round of cocktails involved...and when you spend that much you kind of expect the service to be top notch. Again this time, it was not.
For the most part our waiter was very attentive and took good care of us. The bigger issues appeared to be the kitchen's fault this time. Several of us didn't have our entrees until the others were almost finished eating. And worse, one person had to ask for his side of rice several times. He was over halfway through eating his fish entree before the rice showed up. That's just nonsense for a restaurant of this supposed caliber.
Another disappointment was several of my favorite items have been removed from the menu. The vegetarian fake chicken dish is gone, so I got the vegetarian ma po tofu instead. It is alright, but a pretty basic rendition of the dish and nothing special. Also the fabulous macarons have disappeared. So as a vegetarian I was disappointed in the reduced options. Other restaurants are adding vegetarian and vegan options as plant based popularity increases. Sad to see Hakkasan going the other way.
Peking duck with black bean sauce was incredible. Everything we ate exceeded expectations...
Definitely be back, the halibut was cooked to perfection.
Great food and ambience. A few more options on menu would have made it absolutely perfect.
My husband and I came here for our 2014 NYE dinner and had a fantastic time, this year we decided to return for our 2020 NYE dinner and was tremendously disappointed.
The price we paid were very similar. The difference was that we paid ~$100 less 6 years ago, but had 2 wine pairings along with our meal, while this year we only got a low-mid price bottle of wine and no wine pairings.
The differences in experience is HUGE:
- There were no holiday/ NYE decoration and vibe. Entrance was not decorated (it was FILLED with balloons a few years ago), and we weren't given fun party treats to celebrate with anymore. No confetti, fun hats, nothing. Huge disappointment.
- The food was mediocre. We expected great, we got just ok. Food were brought out "family style" for our table of 2, not as individual dish for each of us. It didn't feel as lux and nice, and the food was very ok. The meal is broken down to 3 parts: starters with ~4 types of dimsum - these were the best part of the meal imo, main course "family style" including halibut, kobe steak that was cut very large and they didn't provide a knife (wasn't sure how we can eat them), bokchoy and mushroom, and a mediocre stir fry noodle plate. The presentation was ok, not super nice but wasn't bad, and lastly a white chocolate dessert that was too sweet and too large. We couldn't finish the desert since it was way too sweet, not delicate at all.
- Service was ok - Some food came out with no description, my husband had to ask the waiter to "explain what we're eating." It was rather funny.
- Ambiance was sad. We had a 9pm reservation to pump us up for the countdown. 6 years ago it was poppin' with music, all the tables were full and everyone was fun and happy. This year, our dining room was mostly empty, quiet, no holiday music - really killed our mood.
All in all, our experience was bad. everything felt underbudget. We don't recommend and won't be returning.
New Year’s Eve dinner. Expensive but not special. No festive mood. No count down.
I was really disappointed in the food. It was cold and some of it was bland. I spent $600 on 2 people and it was among the most underwhelming meals I’ve ever had.
I read a lot of reviews for somewhere upscale for vegan food in SF on NYE. I made the reservation here due to the sufficient vegan options. I even called to make sure they’d be available. Upon arriving there was a prefixed menu for the night that had no vegan options and was outrageously expensive. Since it was NYE we had no other plans or place to go. Very disappointed with the last minute change of menu and no notice
Booked for 2 for new years eve. Was a set menu which was 160 dollars each. The food on offer was unpleasant and boring. We asked too even share one menu between us but were told it wasnt allowed. It was nothing more than an attempt to take the maximum amount of money from guests with the minimum effort. Would never return.
I definitely do not recommend the new year's eve fixed menu dinner!
The meat was disgusting and the fish inedible. The chicken for the kids was uncooked and the duck had a smell. We’ve been to two other Hakkasans in NYC and London and this was subpar
4 people $870 for a diner, it seemed not worth the money
Beautiful and great service/food
While the food here is elaborate and delicious, the service we received was less than what we would expect at a restaurant of this potential and at this price point. Our server was clearly overwhelmed and unable to service the various tables she was managing (forgetful of bringing all our entrees at the same time and forgetting to take our dessert order). Perhaps even more annoying was her glowering over us as we ordered - convinced that we hadn’t ordered enough (we did actually). The food here though was very good - we enjoyed the ribeye, the duck, and the spicy curry prawns. While perhaps still on the pricey side, if they can get their service better organized it is still a nice treat in a sophisticated setting for a special occasion.
Nothing like the one in NYC, especially the food. It just tastes like normal Chinatown food. Won’t come back anymore.
Great food and service however this place is a bit overpriced
Steamed dim sum was delicious! The clay pot pork belly however was not very good. Huge pieces and falling apart but to a degree that it was mushy..and the flavor was extremely bland. Not what you’d expect out of a $30 entree!
Service was great though - from coat check to our waiter.
The food was not as good as expected. The only dish I would recommend is cod baked in Champagne. It was really good. We have ordered 5 dishes but others weren’t worth the price. You can easily find equivalent substitutes at better price in other Cantonese restaurants. The service was great.
Fantastic food with vegetarian and vegan options, professional and friendly staff.
Hakkasan was recommended by a friend. It is an amazing dining experience with very delicious food. Service was amazing and decor was besutiful.
Bad food, overpriced, indifferent and bad service. Avoid and skip this one.
Food was delicious and the service was great. Also very nice ambiance !
Amazing experience and flawless service. Lots of smiles , and always attentive when needed. Alyssa and Laney are wonderful. Will visit again soon!
We love the freshness and subtle flavors at Hakasan.
food always tasty and delicous, please do not change the seabass! this is what our regular dish either for lunch or dinner.
Hakkasan never disappoints! We’ve been many times and have never had a dish that was not superb.
Holiday treat for my husband. Took him here for lunch in the middle of a stormy day. Food was delicious and service was impeccable.
We had tea, dim sum platter, an order of har gau, hot and sour soup, spicy prawns, stir fried pepper beef with merlot, jasmine rice, egg fried rice, bok choy, duck rolls, and chocolates.
Cool location. Food was very good but I guess my expectations were too high as I was not blown away. Excellent service.
Food was good but severely over-priced. Have had much better food for lots less money.
Birthday Lunch .. person taking order not very helpful .. did not tell us about food & took long .. food was so - so
Our waitress was rude and unpleasant. Ordered fried rice and brought steamed rice. Was insisted that I did not order fried rice. I have been to this place many times before and have never ordered steamed rice in the past. It is disappointing for the first time.
Awesome experience for group, everyone like the service and food
This was our first dining experience at Hakkasan and it was great, from the ambiance to the food, we enjoyed the whole experience. We had the hakka dim sum platter, egg and scallion fried rice, sanpei chicken claypot, and roasted silver cod. All were exceptional and cooked very well. A true elevation of asian flavors that we love. Our host was courteous and checked on us frequently without bothering us, and always made sure we were enjoying ourselves. We would happily dine here again.
