Harper's Restaurant and Bar
A really nice night. My wife's birthday (actual party next week) , I brought a birthyear wine and they were gracious about corkage. The mushroom toast with egg was excellent, as was chicory/little gem salad. The bavette was amazingly tender for flank, and well -seasoned. Duck breast was cooked perfectly. For both mains the vegetables (Japanese carrots with steak, harukei turnip for duck) vied with protein for star of plate. Service was warm but unobtrusive.
Great menu and wine selection. Service was fantastic.
Myself and a few friends went for brunch. The selection was limited and they didn’t even have tomatoes for a burger. The prices were also high for the price and there was a piece of paper in my biscuit.
Fabulous brunch in a charming setting with very kind service. Every item we had was delicious, with fresh ingredients, well balanced flavors, and inventive combinations. Easily the best brunch I’ve had in Westchester — probably the best brunch I’ve had in all of downstate in recent memory. Our out of town guests loved it. Five stars — definitely would recommend.
Our party was 2 couples and we all had different main courses and each us very amazed how great the food was.
We were able to get a reservation her on the same day. We started with the apple and cheddar salad with kale. It was small, but very good. Then we went to the ricotta dumplings which were excellent. Then we had the chicken which was moist and tasty. They have a very nice salted caramel and a chocolate torte.
Harper's is like being at home--but so much better
Service is a little slow. Delicious food and great deal for brunch.
Long wait for drinks. Went to try because of restaurant week but didn’t participate on Saturday. Made a special request due to vegetarian needs and chef gave me pasta with butter from what was listed as saffron gnochatinni with duck Ragu orange rosemary. Not what I was expecting and won’t return.
My friend and I were disappointed with the food. The restaurant had been written up by Open Table as being farm to table, but there was no reference to that at the restaurant. The service was outstanding, however.
To echo a few other reviews, there is definitely short staffing at this restaurant. A busy Friday night they need at least two more waitstaff and a second bartender covering service. The food was okay I enjoyed my pate toast a lot, and my duck entree. Partner had the burger, which was fine, nothing special - ordered medium rare came medium, no pink. if I had to go back To dinner in this area, I would probably pass on this place. I hope they can sort out the management. The place is cute, vintage vibe.
If you can’t find anyplace better, this is passable
This was not our first visit to Harper's, but it was the most disappointing. They were clearly short-staffed. Our waitress knew absolutely nothing about their very small menu, and she even admitted she was filling in for the night from another restaurant. After delivering the food, no one returned the entire evening to see how everything was. We had to hunt down someone to get the check. The burgers ordered were cooked perfectly and tasted fine. My trout was soggy, not crispy as requested. The cabbage that came with it was very salty. The salads we ordered to share were small in portion, had not been divided, nor was an extra plate brought to the table. I was surprised at the lack of attention and poor service. No manager or anyone even resembling that seemed to be around. I would not return based on this experience.
I had the special pork Milanese. It was tough and the breading was way over seasoned. My husband had the cod special and he liked it. A band was playing and it became difficult to converse.
The menu is creative and the food is good. The menu is very narrow with not many entres to choose from. I had Pork Milanese which was tasty but a little greasy from being fried.
The wine prices are out of sight - certainly can't afford to drink there.
Went to enjoy music. Music was good and bar so so. Good value for Happy Hour though, Wines $8 & Lagers $5.
Not great choices for overpriced food.
Food was good, the service was super slow but very nice service.. waitress was very nice ... we were not sure if they were short staffed or not.. I asked for salt and pepper and had to wait about 20 minutes. By then - was done with my meal. The ambience is very lovely, especially the grotto area behind the restaurant. Very very nice experience. Again, slow very slow service
Love the outdoor dinning.
A happy place to be. Food great, good beer and wine list, service amicable and efficient. Will be back.
Limited menu was a little surprising. The lack of any specials was a first for me.
Everything was wonderful. Great service and great food.
It was good!
My boyfriend and I have been coming to Harpers every year on our anniversary and some Valentine's Days in between to honor our first date. We have always been so happy with the entire experience. This time we both felt a little unimpressed. Not that we were unhappy by any means. Just we weren't wowed by any of the choices on the menu, including the cocktail and wine list. I'm not sure if there was a change in management or in the kitchen, but there seems to be a some creative luster missing this time around that was there previously.
I was still satisfied, just not overly impressed as I usually am. I usually leave the place raving about how great it was until the next time I go and I'm just not feeling that way after this trip.
Was happy to discover this lovely place to take our friend from out of town. The food was inventive and delicious. The service was prompt and very friendly!
The food was amazing!
Came here for Sunday brunch, decided to go with the trout for main course and burrata for entree. The food was really really really really good! Will be back again for sure!
Sunday brunch was very good. I thought the quantity and quality was fine. Some might argue the for Sunday Brunch, with entrees costing about $14, you should get bigger portions and I can understand that criticism. The $29 price fixe is the best value, it gives you a Bloody Mary (or equivalent), coffee an appetizer and entree.
Service was good an not rushed. Overall, I liked Harpers and would eat there again.
Portions were very small especially for the price.
Good food and service. Enjoyed the outdoor seating.
However noise level was off putting
Wonderful mushroom toast
My wife and I have been to Harper's several times now and the food is always excellent. The service seemed a little off this time though. When I asked for the check, our waitress brought us the the paper. Ok. I put my card on top and she came and took it away. Again, when she brought it back with the receipts to sign and add tip, it was just the papers, my card and a pen. Maybe I'm old, but it's not a diner situation when you get the check and pay upfront. It's a restaurant and, for security reasons, the check out process should always be in a book or some kind of cover. It's not a secure feeling to expose your card and signature like that. I left feeling a bit disconcerted.
We totally enjoyed our time with friends in the garden. Good food, good drinks with good friends. A perfect evening.
We ate outside and the patio is very nice. However, some citronella candles would help for the ambience and the bugs and a fan in one of the corners to move the air. Eating outside was quiet but I can see how eating inside would be quite noisy. The waitress was wonderful, but the owner was very strange. We've been there several times and never received a greeting. He passes his customers several times during a meal, always with his head down never looking at or greeting any of the customers. That definitely took away from the overall atmosphere and meal enjoyment.
This was always a great place to eat outside in the back garden but the new owner has markedly improved the food. last two visits have been very enjoyable.
Never been there before but it was a perfectly Sunny day and their outdoor seating was amazing. Food was well-prepared and delicious. Not your standard breakfast choices but exciting alternatives. Enough of you should go there to keep the place going but not too many do it doesn't have hour long waits for a table.
No great vegetarian options and the Dessert was not great
Lovely venue, excellent food and wine selection. While the wait staff was very good, courteous they were totally under-staffed. One waitress for all tables... pretty crowded, long wait times. Regardless, excellent restaurant..I’d definitely go back and recommend it!
This trip was all about Erin. I’ve run several top restaurants in Manhattan and she could have run any one of them. There were a few glitches more than usual and she was on it every time. She was a force the entire night and I cannot day enough about her. She is a keeper and we would come back just to see her again. Paul C
