It was a first for me and my companion. I can understand why it’s a local favorite. We shared the pan roasted vegetables as an appetizer. They were perfectly roasted and just tender with a tasty light glaze. As a main course we ordered the lamb bedded on mashed potatoes. The lamb was perfect with just enough BBQ sauce.
The finale was the chocolate hazel nut cake. Nothing disappointed and the variety of unusal game choices on the menu was refreshing.
Always terrific food and great service. Our go-to place. Everyone we have brought here loves it.
We have been customers here for thirty years. The food is always excellent and of good value. However, the small new space is even more uncomfortable than the old space. But the food is worth the squashiness.
Wonderful food, attentive, friendly service. Consistently great.
We’ve eaten here the last three Thanksgivings and all the entrees we’ve tried have been excellent. Highly recommended any time of the year.
We arrived into Brooklyn late the evening before Thanksgiving. They were having a special with wild game choices. Had the pheasant and pate. Delicious! Felt like we were family. Will return again.
I’ve been going to Henry’s End since I was a kid. Phase I of this year’s food festival did not disappoint. The venison bourguignon was incredible and was the ample wine list. I recommend it to anyone who enjoys or wants to try wild game or just wants good good all around.
This is by far one of the best restaurants in the city. The food and service is consistently good. Never any surprises...always good!
New space has no ambiance. They brought out appetizers, entree and dessert in less than an hour. You couldn’t relax or enjoy the meal. The food and service wasn’t as good as it was the last three years and we go the same time each year.
Once again, Henry’s End delivered consistently great service and food. They may have moved down a block from the original location but they have brought their traditions, menu and commitment to making your dining experience thoroughly enjoyable. I only hope they stick around as long as I live in Brooklyn- and I have no immediate plans to leave.
Love love love Love love loveLove love loveLove love love Henry's end
Was really surprised when we showed up at 8:15 for our 8:30 reservation and were told : "We dont have room for you to even stand and wait inside". However, I sure am glad that we braved the cold for 15 minutes!
The steak my partner had was perfectly cooked and amazing. The tuna steak I had was cooked perfectly and melted in my mouth! Even the sides were fantastic (How do you make simple spinach sauteed with garlic and olive oil unbelievable? - I don't know - but they did).
Can't wait to go back here on my next trip to NYC. Make reservations, show up on time and really really enjoy the food and the service. A very small place, but very well done!
We have been eating at Henry's End for over 30 years and it never disappoints.
The food was excellent and unique. Cozy atmosphere.
We've had a privilege and honor to dine at Henry's End for over ten years and were very excited to try out the new space since they moved! As always, the quality of service and food is top notch. I'm feeling very nostalgic for the old space so take this review with a grain of salt - as with anything in life, nothing can last forever, and change is inevitable! So that said, the new space is more modern, and offers a bar with seating, which is a nice upgrade. The ambiance isn't what it used to be, but again, I'm feeing nostalgic. It was a fun night and we were glad we tried our old favorite in their new home. Never disappointed with the level of service and food.
Food continues to be of excellent quality. Due to it’s small nature, restaurant is very noisy
Highly recommend this restaurant to anyone wanting great food, wonderful game when in season and great service.
This is a staple of excellence.
I have never had a bad meal at Henry's End. Their service is always spot on as well. I highly recommend this place.
Food is always good here. We had a minor issue with the service, the waiter took my plate away while I was still eating, I still had some venison meat on the plate and I had a mouthful of food I couldn’t tell him to put the plate back. He was rushing the meal along un-necessarily. The dish costs $43 so for him to take it away before I was done was a little unnerving. I didnt want to make a scene so I just didnt say anything.
i remember the old henrys end space. i dont like the noise at the new space. i have been twice to the new location. it is really too noisy. i can hear everyone's conversation except the person at my table.
the tables are crowded together. the food is great and the people working there are great. i wish they could do something about the noise level.
We love this restaurant. The food is great and always prepared perfectly. The game (duck and elk) was excellent. The new location is bigger (slightly) and I can hardly wait to get to use the outdoor seating.
The new henry’s end location is lovely, their menu quality and service level haven’t changed a bit and you will still see many favorites on the list! Wish they would bring back the chalk board! We will be back soon!
We went to Henry's End in their new location for my wife's birthday. We've been going there for over 30 years, but we found that the new venue was surprisingly not all that bigger than their former closet-like digs (the space is just configured differently.) We ordered our dinner and then sat there for 30-45 minutes, watching everybody else get their food. When we complained to our waiter, who said he would make it up by giving us an entree-size for our appetizer. We then waited at least another 15+ minutes. Finally, Julia, the person behind the bar (the manager?) asked us what was the problem, claiming she didn't know anything about what was (or actually wasn't) going on. We explained our predicament again. It seemed that the waiter had totally missed the fact that we wanted to start with our appetizer, even though we had told him precisely that. Julia seemed properly horrified that these problems were also occurring on a special occasion dinner (and maybe that we were also long-time customers?) She made sure we got our food fairly quickly after that, comped us our second round of drinks and the appetizer, and threw in a dessert (with an appropriate candle and 'Happy Birthday' on the plate) for free. Bottom line: the food was very good (as we remembered it to be), and Julia eventually managed to compensate for the initial failure to take and put in our order correctly, and the resulting dismal service. So we will go back there in the future, and hope for normal, decent attentive service. Heavy sigh. (Julia to the rescue!)
Without a doubt my favorite restaurant!! The first time I experienced Henry’s End was sometime in the 1990’s and the intimate atmosphere, warm personal service and exceptionally delicious food left a lasting impression on me.. During the many years that I lived in Brooklyn, I brought countless friends here to share the experience.. It became my go-to restaurant, always serving up wonderful food and offering a perfectly curated selection of fine wine and beer.. Far from over-priced, the value of the food and experience here will almost certainly always surpass the cost of the meal.. In the restaurant business, like most businesses, there’s so much to be said for consistency.. Well, 20 YEARS LATER, on a trip to NYC I recently brought my wife and children to Henry’s End for dinner.. We were greeted with the very same warmth and charm by the same faces that I remembered.. And they even remembered me after not having been there for over a decade!! The bread and butter given to us as we waited was the same as it always was and every bit as delicious as I had remembered.. Everything that we ordered that evening was cooked to absolute perfection and presented beautifully.. I could go on forever about what a treasure this restaurant is and still never do it justice.. If you’re anywhere in the NYC area looking for an amazing meal, please do yourself the favor of visiting Henry’s End, tucked away in the sweetest part of Brooklyn Heights, just over the Brooklyn Bridge from Manhattan.. I promise you will not be disappointed.. And to Mark, the staff, and the family of this fantastic establishment, keep up the good work.. You are truly a blessing!!
Neighborhood standby. Very nice.
Always fine food, delightful service.
No way!!!!!!!!!! Food was not hot also waiter did not ask how meal was ,over all experience suck !!!!
We began enjoying Henry's End many years ago when living in Brooklyn Heights and make the trip in from New Jersey several times a year, often bringing friends who love it. Therefore, we were very interested and a bit worried when visiting the new location (just one block away on Henry Street). We need not have worried...the owner has taken advantage of the opportunity and created a wonderful, warm and more comfortable space for his diners, while maintaining the high standards of the food. There is a very nice bar area and outdoor seating when weather permits. Also, brunch on weekends has been added.
In summary, nothing from the old location has been lost. In fact, the experience of dining at Henry's End has been enhanced.
Henry's End has delicious food & drinks as well as service however I'm not too sure about the new location. At first glance it is a little shocking. So different from the original location which was small but cozy. It will take a little getting used to. It doesn't really have any ambiance or atmosphere but if you're only there for the food than its still a winner.
First time in new location. Good to see a neighborhood fave continuing on.
Some dishes tasted the same as our memories & some, not so much - missed the old version of the apple cobbler.
The food was excellent. Tried Elk for the 1st time and it was delicious. Our server was extremely professional, attentive and courteous. Highly recommend.
Very sweet and special location. The staff is very friendly and artful at ensuring you feel welcome. Wonderful meal!
For the past 4 years, we’ve had our wedding anniversary dinner at Henry’s End. It is one of our favorite restaurants in NYC. The food, service, and wine choices are all first rate. While I think they’re still finding their footing in the new space a little, it’s still excellent and will only improve. Looking forward to the next anniversary dinner there (although we will certainly eat that before then). Looking forward to the Wild Game Festival.
Our Waitress didn’t know how to separate her emotions from her job or ask questions before picking up our unfinished drinks. Also, I couldn’t ask a question about the food I was served without being given a face expression and walking away to complain to her boss as if we wouldn’t notice!
Finally a really good neighborhood restaurant. Loved the grilled vegetables and the veal
This restaurant has been on Henry Street for a long time. Recently moved down the block. New place is slightly bigger and has some outdoor tables. Food is as good as ever. Service was very friendly and professional BUT it took quite a while for entrees to be served and one side of veggies finally came out just as we were finishing our meal. Entrees no longer served with any sides and are extra. They are tasty but timing needs to be coordinated so they are served with the entree.
First time at the new location. Very noisy and hard to have a conversation. Mostly the same menu which we enjoy but the food wasn't as good as it used to be. Still enjoyable. The service was very good as usual and we had and enjoyable evening.
