We arrived on time for our 7 pm reservation and were seated immediately. We were a party of four. Our orders were taken promptly but it took nearly two hours for the first two of our six appetizers to arrive. Three others arrived about 30 minutes later. The sixth (a soup) never arrived. We didn't finish our meal until four hours after our arrival.
We have been going to Herb since they opened and now they have expanded. Once again, we love the food, the concept, and the service. However, the noise level has become unbearable, even though we had a table for 4 in the corner, meaning there was not a table on either side of us, just on one side.I could not hear my female companion across the table from me. Perhaps it was a Saturday night but we did have an earlier reservation.
I adore this restaurant. Not only is it BYOB, but the staff is incredible and the food insanely delicious. On top of all that, it has to be one of the best deals in town. $55 for 5 full size courses? Absolutely worth the journey.
Excellent flavors. Portions were small but each bite was special.
We had high hopes for this restaurant, expecting a hidden gem and enthusiastic about the BYOB option. It is a creative prix fixe menu, but they didn't have two of the dishes we would have liked to try. The only things that were exceptional were the famed mushroom soup and the desserts. Otherwise, it was good, but not great. The wait staff was eager to please, but seemed quite scattered the night we were there.
So fabulous that my Thai friend gave 4 stars for an elegant modern interpretation of authentic Thai food
Finally got to try this inspired farm to table take on Thai food. Went with the 5 course Prix fix meal and
sampled back and forth with my wife. Beautiful presentation, great Thai flavors, helpful staff and intimate surrounding. Was able to hear everything she said at 6:30 on a Friday night.
Simple menu. Great variety of taste. Ambience is everything you want. I look forward to the next time.
We have loved Herb over several visits. I think they were overwhelmed and the service was fine in the beginning and by the end no one ever came over to check on us or see if we wanted dessert. The food is excellent but the price has gone up and it's pretty expensive now . So a bit disappointed in truth
Great food, great service! Highly recommend
Wonderful service. Nice people. Great food.
We were a party of seven, only two of us had been there before, everyone looked the food and said they plan on going back. While some of the dishes can be spicy, they were able to adjust the heat level to accommodate everyone.
Another wonderful meal at Herb. The coconut soup and the spicy fish soup were excellent. The betel leaf starter is a can’t miss. The prons are also delicious. The red snapper and beef dishes were excellent.
Service was attentive and personal. They may be a little understaffed when it gets busy. Finished the meal off with mango and sticky rice for everyone. Also another excellent dessert.
Worth a trip to the north side. You will not be disappointed.
Not your typical neighbor Thai spot. Sophisticated flavors abound. Well trained and highly attentive staff, beautifully presented food, ample portions. BYOB a plus for us. We will be back
Attentive Service with really outstanding food which is imaginative and delicious. The spice level is fairly low but that is to my taste. Downside is that as the evening went on the restaurant became too noisy.
The food was outstanding. Great flavors and reminded me of Thailand.
Undoubtedly the most beautiful Thai food you will find in Chicago. Every dish is so thoughtfully prepared and just delicious. The crispy prawn and mushroom soup is fabulous. Service is outstanding. Overall, this restaurant is a wonderful experience.
Brilliant menu. Simple, yet elegant and full of life! The food had a story! And Chef Patty was more than happy to share her thoughts an philosophies on food... as well as explain the background. We can’t wait to go back! BYOB!
We had a wonderful time. The food is outstanding and so beautifully presented. The value is excellent and we were well attended to by the wait staff and the owner. I have already recommended it to several friends.
Herb is beyond underrated. The food is exquisite and the service absolutely fantastic. A hidden gem!
Family in town and celebrating birthdays.
Absolutely delicious. Food was exquisitely prepared and unique. The prawn dish was a favorite, along with the tumeric mushroom soup. Anybody who loves Thai cuisine should visit Herb for an authentic and high-end experience. BYOB, too!
Herb is a wonderful restaurant and a great value. Top quality food in a casual BYOB setting is a rare treat!
I have always loved Herb, their food is out of this world and exquisitely unique. It is certainly higher up on the pedestal and the price reflects it, but it's definitely a good value for the quality. Chef Patty is very personable and makes an effort to greet every person each time. Out of my three recent outings to Herb, she has came out to greet us twice. Outstanding service by the management and servers as well as they explain the food very well and even go over the history of some of the dishes.
Great dining experience. Wonderful food. Most friendly & helpful staff.
Cannot wait to come back.
Great little restaurant. Fresh takes on more or less traditional Thai cuisine. Two options for Prix Fixe, both are good values. You still have ala carte option and the BYOB keeps things reasonably affordable. NOT cheap, but still frugal. Going back soon!
Although the food was good and the decor inviting, the noise level was painful. Service was so slow we had to endure the commotion for 3 hours. We all had headaches by the time we left. We all really wanted to love this place and are sad we won’t we going back.
Fantastic meal! Amazing flavors, excellent preparation (we had tofu substituted for the duck entree and the tofu was cooked perfectly!), and beautiful presentation!
Superb from start to finish!
Food was excellent. Staff was very friendly and kind. Would highly recommend.
The food is really amazing and so is the service. It is one very unique place.
Wonderful as always. BYOB. Delicious teas, nouveaux Thai food.
The items on the 5-course menu were all delicious. Looking forward to returning to sample the Summer menu.
A total gem on the North Side. Tastes just like the food in Thailand. Lovely staff , beautifully prepared dishes, and nice setting.
I would recommend dining here to a friend, but tell them that the offerings are limited and the portions are small and it is a lot of money for the quantity. Was this offset by the lovely space, the beautiful presentation and the attentive wait staff -- they would have to decide for themselves.
Amazing, not the usual Thai fare you expect. We have been coming to Herb often over the past few years and were very happy to see that it finally is getting the recognition it so deserves!
Fantastic, memorable dinner. The betel leaf appetizer was delicious and masterful in its prep as was the mushroom turmeric soup. The tofu main dish also shined. The food is worthy of its excellent ratings from Michelin, elsewhere. Staff and customer service were just-right attentive and welcoming. Appreciate that it is BYoB so we could bring a special bottle for our anniversary.
I don’t think the atmosphere lives up to the level of the food, though. A bit sparse but not notably stylish. Hallway to bathrooms rundown and seems like an afterthought but off our dining area. Room where we sat was deep and dark and not much on walls. No candlelight.
Also, portions are small and we left a bit hungry. We wish we had ordered the 5-course pre fixe rather than the 3-course menu, which we would have done had we known. So delicious, though. We would certainly go back.
Love this high end place. Almost like dining at a friend’s lovely home. Very Asian nouveau; beautifully played.
Always enjoy. This time was birthday and college graduations!
Food and service were excellent. It is just a bit noisy because of the acoustics of the place.
Fantastic Thai food. Beautiful and delicious served with home made teas.
