House of Prime Rib
Never stop what you’re doing
My husband and I have been coming the first Friday of December for the past 15 years. Always outstanding!
Celebrated my wife’s 50th. Enjoyed every minute.
Waiter was very nice and above what we could ask for. The food was absolutely amazing and was worth the price. Only thing that was troublesome was the noise level. Made it hard to speak to my date. But overall. Will come back again
There were lots of Holiday celebrations going on with big parties so it was very noisy and energetic - it was all good though - service was great even with such a crowd and the food was delicious of course
Great meal!! Could hardly hear each other. They should ban people wandering around into other guests' space, taking selfies!!! It's Very Annoying!!
Staff was friendly. Prime rib was amazing!!! Can’t wait to go back.
Birthday celebration. Loved the atmoshere. Excellent service. Extremely noisy due to a large group of stupid reindeer-headed women constantly screaming with laughter. My only complaint of the food was way too much garlic in the sauteed spinach and waiter put too muchsalt in the salad. Notherwise SO MUCH FUN!
Always a great time and experience. I have been coming here for25 plus years and always receive the upmost service. Our waiter was exceptionally great at taking care of us.
I love HOPR so I made a 20 person reservation for my team. I was so excited to bring everyone. Our server was not great, he was a big rude and was unkind when we asked for a photo. Then I saw other people got photos printed out for them. So that was highly disappointing.
only complaint is noise, very loud, but lots of people having fun! like us too!
My beautiful wife and and I had an awesome dinner. House of Prime Rib is excellent.
House of Prime Rib is a San Francisco treasure! The food, the service, the mood in the room... fabulous!
Our group had so much fun!!!
You will not find better tasting beef in the city. I was a regular here for years but have had difficulty getting a reservation at an early hour. Got in tonight and rekindled old friendship with a martini, beautiful beef and delicious side dishes along with very nice and friendly service. You can’t do better and feels like old city again ! Bravo !
Old school at its best! Always great service and a great vibe. It’s our happy place!
Nothing special IMO. Lettuce was very wilted. Food was good but not fantastic.
We arrived about 15 minutes late, due to traffic problems, but our table was still not ready when we got there. We were asked to wait outside (in the rain), and that we would be called when the table was ready; after a short wait, we went in to check and were told that a table was waiting for us. It would have been nice if we'd been notified of that outside.
The food itself was the usual House of Prime Rib fare - delicious! - but the service was perfunctory. For instance, the server asked whether we'd been there before, but then ignored our answer (yes) and "explained" the menu to us anyway. Similarly, he was informed that it was my birthday, and so he brought a celebratory dish of ice cream at the end of the meal . . . but didn't say "happy birthday" nor sing.
It was a fine meal, but definitely not up to the standards of the House of Prime Rib that I remembered. I made this reservation months in advance, and I'm not sure that it's worth doing that anymore.
Have driven by HOPR since I was a very young child - why it took so long, I do not know.
Meat was perfect - done pink, and warm, sides were fine, but secondary. Old school abience - my son's Manhattan came with a sidecar. Loved it all!
An earlier poor review, and I paraphrase, stated that the meat was something that could be done at home. There is no way you could even get that cut of meat in the open market, get it home, and make it as tender and flavorful as HOPR!
For those who complain it is overpriced, the $59 charge (for the largest cut of prime rib) INCLUDED a small veggie, a big serving of salad, and a potato of your choice. Certain chains that state they serve Prime meat may charge slightly less, but then you have to pay for the veggie, the potato, and the salad EXTRA.
One reviewer complained you can't get soda. You can, just charged on the bar tab. The Lemon Drops are tremendous, per my wife.
This is a place you go for a special treat. And the more, the merrier it seems to be. Is the atmosphere loud? Borderline but that means people are talking, having a good time.
Was very disappointed with my meal. The mashed potatoes were watery, the creamed spinach had an off flavor maybe due to imitation bacon and the prime rib very fatty. I know it’s a fatty piece of meat but when you can’t eat half of it, i feel that’s unacceptable especially at the price.
This is THE place to get prime rib. Henry VIII cut or House Prime Rib cut were great medium rare. The creamed spinach and baked potato were great. Popovers were just okay. We usually love the salad but this time the lettuce was noticeably wilted EVEN before the dressing which is SAD as we love the eggs, bacon, beets, etc. We even asked that it be dressed lightly. Great for special occasion and book few months in advance. We were half hour early yet they so kindly seated us very promptly just when we had our cocktails served. We each a a nice rib bone to bring home and some sides, so couldn't fit in a dessert since this was the day after Thanksgiving. Will be back but caution on the salad greens.
Outstanding food at a reasonable price. Excellent service and great "old school" ambiance. A very pleasant dining experience.
Outstanding service and food. Good price point for the food, our total for two came out to be $115. Strong cocktails. It was way too hot and there was a fireplace on but the food was worth it.
Always a great experience and delicious food! Thank you.
The House of Prime Rib is ALWAYS a great place to enjoy a phenomenal meal and to celebrate
life and all its accoutrements.
TWO THUMBS UP, WAY UP!!!
Great as always, our country needs more restaurants like House of Prime Rib, do one thing, but do it extraordinarily well, year after year.
Absolute worth the wait! I made the reservation 6 weeks out and glad I did. The service and food were outstanding! Great evening celebrating my sons birthday and recommend this restaurant whole heartedly.
The family members enjoyed the food and had a great time !
waiter Nathan was very nice. it is little bit tight since walk way and by the toilet. I will ask different table next time.
another truly amazing experence perfect cuts everytime
A classic institution in which fond memories will be found.
Classic formal American dinning at its best! For meat lovers only!
Our dinner was delicious as always. Despite being to the house of prime rib several times we have NEVER been asked for seconds blain or blaine I believe was our waiters name on 11/24/19 he was awesome customer service and personality was great! and he asked us if we wanted seconds first time we get asked and I appreciate him for letting us know we were very full wish I could have had more, we love this place food is always DELICIOUS!
They should learn how to actually filter guests and not take walk-ins with promises of seating. The host desk does not let you know if there is a waiting area (not everyone has been there before), people are clustered around the main entry. When we arrived at the table there were still used wine glasses, crumbs on chairs and just a haphazard order to everything. The food was good, but not great. For reference, the majority of high-end restaurants that I have had dinner at have a reasonable ratio for pending partons to those being served.
At House of Prime Rib they are going for volume and to move clients in and out as quickly as possible. People are on top of each other and the staff is overwhelmed. It was a Saturday night, so take that as you will. If you want an actual relaxing experience that provides great food and atmosphere look elsewhere. Here its the equivalent of hoarding cattle.
Great food. You can’t go wrong. They need to manage their clientele a little. It’s a nice restaurant, have some of these clueless people take off their hats. You will always need reservations and driving through the city is no fun but it is well worth it for sure. A lot of food for your money. But very loud and very hot inside. The prime rib though is off the charts.
Great service felt a little rushed though.
The waiter John was fantastic he made my birthday dinner that much special. The food was terrific. Would definitely recommend to everyone
The server was friendly and provided good service by checking in with us. I made a note on the reservations that I was celebrating my husband's birthday but they forgot to mention to the server. I notified her towards the end and she came by with an ice cream treat.
Child meal age should change to 12 and under. My daughter can not finish the adult meal! Thank you.
Manolo gave the best service! We will definitely be making a trip back here soon!
