Hurricane Restaurant - Kennebunkport
Great service, food and view outside, Carson was fantastic
We go to Hurricane's for the best crabmeat-stuffed lobster on the planet! Last night was a disappointment. The stuffing was breadcrumb instead of crabmeat and the lobster was only lukewarm. We brought friends from Boston who we don't get to see very often; but we couldn't talk to/hear each other because there was a very mediocre instrumental/vocal group bellowing out pop rock music. We always sit outside at any restaurant during this Covid pandemic for safety; but we felt compelled to move inside because the music level outside was deafening (they were set up outside). So we couldn't achieve the safety level outside that makes us comfortable.
The Keylime Martinis were quite good, as were the chocolate mouse and keylime pie. The crabcake apps were OK. At $70 each, the lobsters were particularly disappointing and, as I said, the awesome crabmeat-stuffed lobsters are why we come to Kennebunkport for one if the best dinners anywhere. So...bummer!!!
Having said all this, the waitstaff was very accommodating and helpful, despite the fact that the restaurant posts a sign within saying that they are short on workers and requesting patience from the patrons.
We will come back again when restaurants are no longer suffering from Covid to see if the food standard is back up to the excellent status that we once enjoyed. But if we are offered another meal here like the one yesterday, we won't be back. There are too many other awesome restaurants nearby to put up with and pay these prices for substandard food. Fingers crossed, because it used to be our favorite haunt for an out-of-this-world lobster feast!!!
Every time we are in the area, we always schedule a visit to Hurricane's---now for over thirty years (first in Ogunquit and now in Kennebunkport)--and we are always happily spoiled with fine service and exceptional food (though the most recent service may the the best yet)!
We had drinks before dinner and the bartender did a great job even though the place was packed. our server also did a great job. We'll definitely be back
Night was great with great service and most of entrees. The ocean ave band was so entertaining on a beautiful night. The only complaint was on med beef tenderloin was over cooked and tough. Will continue to come back.
Lovely dinner outside by water ..ALL staff extremely friendly and helpful ..priced according to area ...food very good
Very busy restauran, great location, hardworking staff and good kitchen. Overall good, not best for kids, but does the job on the water. Nice specials for the day and fresh seafood.
Hurricane's is a great locally owned establishment with great staff, delicious food and a perfect setting.
Lovely spot. Delicious food. Friendly helpful staff. We had a wonderful evening dinner here.
Great service in a difficult period regarding the labor pool. The 2 lb whole lobster was fantastic, served w mussels and wine broth.
Was told there were no tables only to book one online minutes later. Poor Service… And I’m pretty sure the blond hostess was talking sh*t
The Hurricane is one my wife and mine favorite places to dine. We love to sit by the window overlooking the water and watch the ducks swim by. The ambiance is superb and the noise level is nice...Not like some restaurants where people think they are sitting at their table and almost shouting. This drives my wife and I nuts. We go out to eat to enjoy our meal each other and the surroundings ...not listen to others blab blab blab. If people need to shout or brag about their accomplishments...please stay home or go to McDonalds....There was a time when people went for the same reasons I mentioned...To enjoy their meal and each other ....Hopefully the loud people will read this and understand its rude to be so loud....But this is not how it was at the Hurricane.....VERY ENJOYABLE>....Thank you
Great food and drinks! Outdoor dining right on the River.
Excellent food as always and very busy on a Saturday night. The servers did very well trying to be as quick as possible with such a crowd. Let’s remember to thank everyone who works and puts in the effort to help us relax. We enjoyed our dinner!
As always the food and drinks were excellent. Our server did his best attending to us but as is the case in tourist towns not enough help and out of the establishment’s control. We actually felt bad for our waiter. He must have been covering 10+ tables both inside and outside back and forth and continually apologized. Not his fault. The noise level coming out of an overcrowded bar was a bit loud but nonetheless a dining experience at Hurricane is always fabulous.
Live in the neighborhood. Been there several times. Always a warm and welcoming greeting. Have had several different entrees. All delicious and served hot. Never feel rushed.
This place was amazing. Best meal of our trip and we have been lucky to have many good ones. Bread and salad was fresh. We got the garlic shrimp dish and it was so well done. The folks with us got steak was amazing as well. No one had a bad bite of food.
Wonderful dinner-excellent service
Best lobster ever!
Well I don’t want to give this place a bad review because we have been coming here for years. So we got there a little early and they sat us down right away. After about 20 minutes I got up and went to the hostess station and asked if someone could get us a drink. Looking around there was plenty of wait staff so that was not the issue. Seem like they’re paying more attention to the outside dining than inside and the restaurant was not busy when we got there. But everything else as usual was outstanding.
Food was a 10.
Missing the old Hurricane. Food was cold. Reservation was at 7...left there at 10!
Fois gras was one of the best we’ve had. The shrimp linguine was delicious. We had a great time. Service was good.
Food was very good….nice variety and tasty. Service was slow but waiter was personable and attentive
The experience from start to finish was excellent! Our server, Carson was knowledgeable, made great recommendations, and made our evening there a wonderful time. From his recommendation of the wine for my wife, to where the oysters came from, ( they are absolutely delicious a must have), to helping my son navigate the menu for he has Celiac Disease, he made us feel at home. As I said, the choice of oyster, from Damariscotta Maine, Sheepscott River region, Is excellent. The Smoked Salmon was delicious, the Caiflower bites were exceptional, and the Satay Chicken rounded out our choices. Now I can not speak for the other members of our table, but when dinner came, the conversation came to a halt, and sounds of happy dinners could be heard all around. The Filet mignon was a perfect medium rare, the Statlar Chicken was moist and succulent, the Grilled brined Pork Chop was a big hit, and the Grilled Salmon was spot on. Will be back for another exceptional night of dining. Thank you Hurricanes.
We had great service and great food sitting outside by the water was perfect
Hurricane has always been one of our go to restaurants as we have been coming up to Kennebunkport for years. Unfortunately, lack of serving staff and we believe kitchen help, has compromised the quality of food and the service. The waitstaff works very hard to keep up and they are always pleasant. They take as many reservations as the restaurant can seat and it would be better if they took only what they can handle in order to maintain quality of food and service that it has always been known for.
Duck liver pate with condiments was as excellent as ever.
Mediterranean Stew was fabulous. The stew is our usual entree. This time, the broth was the best ever.
Service. We had to ask twice for one of the drink orders and later, twice for more water.
We really enjoyed our dinner at Hurricane. We had a very telexed three course meal and never felt rushed. The fish was fresh and perfectly prepared and the waitress was able to ensure the kitchen worked around a few diet restrictions. We will definitely go back!
great food and great service, as always.
Service was a bit slow, but they were busy. Food was okay but nothing special.
Great night out with family!
Great food. Beautiful setting.
Reservations at 8…. Solid hour between starter and entree. If you don’t have enough staff, please don’t pack the restaurant full. Would not recommend to my renters as an option.
Happy Birthday Hannah!!
Food was great while the server had us wait over one hour for our appetizers. Claimed the restaurant was overcrowded despite other servers taking care of other tables more quickly than mine.
We sat on the outside patio which was lovely so we didn’t mind about the slow service. After reading all the rave reviews about this restaurant we were underwhelmed. The food was good but not great. We both had a shrimp cocktail which was very good and fresh but our salads were average. My crab cakes were cold and not great, lots of filler so not as advertised with lots of Maine crab.
A good location but not worth the price. We had a much better dinner last night at Mabels Lobster Claw
Perfect spot for a lovely dinner overlooking the bay. Fish special was well prepared and very good. Menu gave many options including small plates. Busy restaurant, but server could handle it. Would recommend.
Wonderful evening with great food and view
Food was ordinary. I ordered my steak medium rare. It was raw in the middle. I sent it back and was still undercooked when I got it back. Fries were over salted. My friend got the fish of the day over risotto and the risotto was watery. For dessert we shared the bread pudding which was excellent.
