Il Vicinato Ristorante
Have been here several times in last few years. Always enjoy it. The food is always delicious. Specials are always hard to decide which to choose. Great basic Italian food. I highly recommend this restaurant!
Il Vicinato is one of the small venue Italian restaurants in Chicago. Vibrant bar scene is great for opener cocktails. Dining room is a little loud, but very friendly. Good menu with daily specials. Everyone agreed our entres were outstanding. Service was exceptional. Had the feeling of a family run restaurant.
I hadn't been here for awhile, but will get back soon.
I really want to give Il Vicinato 5 stars, however the service was beyond slow and not good. It's a great neighborhood type of place and very authentic. The food was delicious and the portions were generous without being exaggerated. However, we went on a busy Saturday night. We made a reservation for 4 for 6:30pm on OpenTable, we arrived at 6:15pm, the host said they didn't have our reservation and tried to blame it on OpenTable, but since I had my text confirm, I showed him and were seated promptly. This was a sign of things to come . . . We sat there for about 30 minutes, without a drink order taken, without menus, without so much as a hello. We patiently waited and they finally took our drink order. Another half hour later they took our food order, 30 minutes after that we finally got our food. No follow up, no questions about what else they could get us. Thank goodness for the bus boy who pretty much acted as our waiter for the evening. We ended up finishing our dinner, requested espresso from the bus boy and left a little after 8:30. I don't mind having a long dinner when you're there enjoying yourself, but the length of this dinner was determined by a lack of service. With that being said, we were the lucky ones, there was a couple next to us, who left before they ever got any food and a 4 top opposite of us who only got appetizers and they had been there since 5:30! The waitress was apologetic and nice about it, but it just wasn't enough to make me want to go again. Lastly, I was annoyed at the fact that there was a rather large table in the back who aside from being obnoxiously loud, seemed to get a lot of attention and their food much more timely than anyone else (I think they must have known the owner, because the red carpet was rolled out for them, but no one else). Good food, bad, bad service.
Excellent authentic Italian cuisine....the best scallops I’ve ever had.
My only complaint.....few of the desserts listed on the specials board were available.
I just wish our waiter checked up on us more frequently. Also, the bar with sports n the TV took away from the ambiance. Otherwise, I really liked it!
Best Italian food!!! Great service!
Always a favorite!
Superb, as always. Is there a better veal limone in the city? No! And the service is attentive, friendly, courteous and helpful. Love this place!
Everything was wonderful, as usual! We have never been disappointed here.
Great nostalgic restaurant. Staff was friendly and welcoming.
Always a great experience. My favorite restaurant in Chicago to bring my out of town guests.
Never changes here — doesn’t need to, either!
Place is awesome. Authentic Italian food. Great service as well.
We meet only 2 times a year and always come home to my roots as I was raised in this neighborhood. Il Vicinato has always been my favorite restaurant. We had a great time and will be back again!
My husband commented that the minestrone soup was one of the best he has ever had. We both enjoyed our meals of pasta, marinara, and sausage. It was a long drive for us but we weren't disappointed.
Good food, reasonably priced, excellent service! Great bread sticks!
Great service. Food is very consistently good. Nice neighborhood place!
Excellent service and great food.
Il Vicinato is always one of our favorites. The food, the people - everything is always amazing!
Lovely, charming, and delicious this place is a complete hidden gem.
Overall old school Italian restaurant with high quality food at a fair price. A little challenging to get there from Lincoln Park and there is construction on Western but all in all it was a quality experience. I will be back!
Great place to relax and enjoy a good Italian meal.
This place is a gem. Great food and service. Cannot go wrong with any selection, but the antipasto salad and the gnocchi are to die for. Do not say no to the bread basket, just don't, it's a carb cheaters dream.
For perfect Italian food you can’t go wrong here. Always have one of The specials Drinks are well made. Staff are friendly gracious and proficient. Just good old world Italian ambiance
This is our favorite restaurant. There are unique and flavorful dishes. There are always specials that one can choose.
Terrific dining experience, as always. Our entrees were sensational..truly homemade goodness. Service was attentive, friendly. A great place in the Heart of Chicago neighborhood.
Great meal! Great Proportions! Great value! Great Service!
I always love coming to this place... a real gem in the heart of a real Chicago neighborhood!
Always a very good meal with attentive service. Very casual with savory classics.
Great stuffed clams and Manicotti. The cannolis are some of the best I’ve ever had. But the Osso Bucco was awful. A tasteless over cooked stew mess. Service always great.
Great food but we never got our salad. Portions are smaller than they used to be. Otherwise, great.
Old school solid italian food. From the perfect bread sticks to the, wow, how can broccoli taste this good, nothing disappoints. Deep bar and varied wine list. Must try is the gumbo when in season. Seems strange to say at an italian joint, but it is a real treat.
This neighborhood place (pun intended) has been around for quite a while. It is still so wonderful. Good food, wonderful ambiance and a great place to meet friends. Love our visits there
We read the reviews on open table so we took the long transit ( train, bus) trip from downtown. It’s in little Italy but the area from the bus stop to the restaurant is sketchy. We wanted the food to be great but parts of it were average and bland. The food lacked flavor. The baked oysters and bread were great. The salads were only okay. The place looks authentic and the staff and menu also seemed Italian. Don’t think I’d make the trek there again and enjoyed the evening
Very comfortable and great staff. Food was excellent. Meat was perfectly cooked.
Great food, great service, fair price
I don’t comment on places but really a true gem and a great family restaurant.
My server was no good. I asked for a soda and my server took forever. Hispanic dude thinking he's Italian. Forgot his name is how bad he was. He was tall and had glasses. He cared about serving the bigger tables then ours. Second time here. Not going back because service is very important. Big props to the bus boy though he was way better then our server. They should switch jobs. I should of gave the busboy the tip instead.
This was our first visit to Il Vicinato. The food was fantastic and the service was outstanding. We'll be back!
The place never disappoints. Food is always delicious. The servers are attentive and accommodating. I love the note on the menu that says if you don’t see and we can make its yours. All restaurants should have that attitude
Amazing food great service
