Our Waitress was wonderful... a Univ of Kentucky nursing student. She and her personality added substantially to a joyful evening. The seafood dishes were excellent and well prepared.
We had a nice dinner in the late afternoon. Service was very good and the food was very tasty.
Overall very good food and an enjoyable dining experience
Terrible service, rude front desk receptionist (blonde with the bob cut). Very judgmental, we ended up going to Eddie Vs instead. They stuck us in the back away from everyone, and we got 2 rude servers back to back. Going to warn everyone at my job not to go here. Terrible everything.
Haven't been to J. Gilbert's for some time. The food is still good and prepared as requested. The service was good but slow possibly because each waiter has too many tables. But the physical aspects need refreshing and seeing buckets on the floor to catch drips from the ceiling was off putting. Also the many hard surfaces make the noise level much too high to enjoy a quiet conversation with your dining partner.
Unfortunately the food was just bad. Steak was ok not great, vegetables and potato’s were cold on delivery to table. Staff did not clear salad plates, just left them and put dinner plates right on top of dirty plates. Never refilled butter, water, bread, or came by table other than dropping food then the check. Bathrooms were in horrible shape, dirty, clogged toilets, garbage on floor and in stalls. We did bring all this to the managers attention. Sorry to say that it’s very expensive for poor quality food, poor service, and just plain dirty restaurant. Cannot recommend this location to others.
Meal was less than notable. Only saving grace was the waiter. Great attitude. I felt like I was eating out of a can. How difficult is it to poach an egg?
First time here and it was excellent. Great food and great service.
The food quality has definitely gone down over the last year. The prefix menu is nowhere to be seen and the steak and server quality it’s not what it used to be. I would say it’s slightly better than LongHorn’s
Took my boyfriend for his birthday. Vibe was very family like and fairly quiet! Service was great they kept my reservation even when I called saying I was running late. Food was delicious. Crab bisque was to die for!
After receiving perfectly prepared meals every time for many years (hers well done, mine medium), for about the third time in a row that was not the case. In one of the previous times, both my wife's and my steak were under cooked--this time they were both over cooked. Her fillet was ordered well done but was over cooked while mine was ordered medium and was presented well done (On that previous occasion when they under cooked them, hers was a little less done than medium while mine was rare). I don't understand what's happened but it's now hit or miss.
Food was great, Evan was awesome! Much better than last time. Still waiting on manager to contact me on previous experience
Always good food at J Gilbert's. Menu has been streamlined, but still good variety of dishes, reasonable prices.
Significantly below prior visits. A precise request was made of the initial server for a particular "rub" for the meat. When finally delivered it had the menu defined. When returned it was absent ANY rub. A third server approached and inquired if I'd like my original order ON THE SIDE. So J.Gilberts is shifting to customer DIY? The wait staff seemed a bit out of sync, not that unexpected considering the disruption caused by COVID to both business process and individual health and economic strain.
/Still, it is the "little things" that matter and life is noting more than a constant tsunami of little things.
We enjoyed our annual birthday dinner. The food was wonderful, as always. Service was good but not great; the waiter seemed to be rather new and had to be reminded about bringing us bread and refilling soft drinks that had already been requested. One of the best parts of the evening was the on-the-house birthday dessert!
The service was the best.
Birthday day dinner
Our waitress, Sarah, set the tone for the evening with an outstanding greeting. Her explanation of the food was spot on and helped influence decisions. Her effervescent personality was shining all evening long.
From drinks to appetizers to desert, everything was tasty and prepared well and presentation only added to the quality. KC strip, filet, scallops, and sea bass were liked by all. The only minor complaint was the salmon was a little less than flavorful. Salads and soup were very good. Deserts were also very good.
Blackberry martini and basil/lemon bourbon drink were excellent.
All said, one of the most enjoyable meals for a group of 6 in a long time. J Gilbert’s knocked it out of the park last night.can’t say how much Sarah our waitress just added to the evening.
We enjoy the Onion Rings, Potato Chips, the Plank Salmon and the Special Sea Bass.
Food and drinks are always dependable at J Gilberts. We love the steaks and salmon plus side dishes are all excellent. What takes it a step above is service though. We had an outstanding server this visit and only wish I could remember her name to give her a shout out. Friendly, efficient and always there when we needed anything. Made our dinner very enjoyable all around.
Our waiter was amazing!!!
First time at J. Gilberts. The parking lot was packed, so I was worried how this would affect our experience. I should not have been. We were seated, had a reservation, within minutes of arriving, the service was impeccable and the noise level was surprisingly perfect.
The food, wow. It was wonderful!
Thank you for a great birthday dinner!
A bit too much noise from the bar area. And service was a bit inattentive. Food was superb. So overall, 4/5.
I usually love this restaurant. Was disappointed they were out of my two selections at 6 PM. The lobster Cobb salad, and unsweetened ice tea? They only had sweetened tea. Seemed very unusual fir a restaurant.
A local joint with decent food. The service was terrific.
I always enjoy J. Gilbert's, even though it is a bit pricey.
Perfect quantity of food ie options available for each person so we didn’t feel over full. Cajun was subtle. Seasoning on filet and ribeye was good. Mixed truffle mushrooms dish was excellent. It was dark inside with booths (typical steakhouse feel). Great wine selection.
During the 7 years that we have lived in the vicinity of McLean, my family and I have dined at J. Gilbert's very frequently, both on business and personal occasions. It had become our "go to" restaurant for all types of dining events.
Lately, we have become disenchanted with the J. Gilbert's experience. What used to be a comfortable and "cozy" atmosphere has morphed into a loud, cacaphonous environment that is unsuited for either enjoyable dining and/or meaningful individual or group conversations.
Our experience yesterday, to mark the 53rd anniversary of my wife's and my marriage, was anything but a positive experience. It will be a long time, if ever again, that we dine at J. Gilbert's.
Enjoyed Sunday dinner. ordered the Mixed Seafood grill for the first time. The crab cake was disappointingly smallish, but it and everything else tasted delicious. Sour dough bread served with dinner meals is excellent. Chester provided excellent service and assistance.
I had a Landry gift certificate and they would not honor it. The manager did offer a discount because of the mixup. The Landry website lists J. Gilbert as one of their restaurants.
Lovely steak house with good food.
Food was good but not great this trip. Service was great…thank you Hugo for your efforts! Felt bad that we got the add-on king crab leg at MP. Did not ask the price, which turned out to be $68 when we got the bill (for half of one crab leg). Other than that disappointment, it was a decent dinner. Will try dining there again based on the excellent service.
Always superb food served in a timely manner. The selections at lunch are great, especially the fish tacos!
The meal was very good. Service was generally excellent -- our waiter was very responsive. Not all dishes arrived at the correct time and in the correct order, but everything was manageable.
First time back in a year and a half and we weren't disappointed!! The food and service were excellent as always. One of out fave places to eat!
Always a great meal in a comfortable atmosphere. Salmon, Filet and Ribs are favorite as well as Mushroom Risotto.
We were in a back room with a very large table with lots of kids. Noise level was very high, but it was probably just bc of the sectioned off area we were in. Half price wine bottles is a great deal on Monday, but they didn’t have 4 of the bottles as selected. Sad. Also, it was super slow. But the food was good and I’m sure we’ll be back.
I eat frequently at J.Gilbert's and always enjoy it, but last night was exceptionally good. I had a smoked salmon rillette starter, which was superb, and the rack of Australian lamb, which was perfectly cooked and delicious! Our waitress was outstanding!
Scallops were terrific as were the three salads our group had.
Dined bar area. Apparently no communication between staff and those in the kitchen. I had to ask what happened to my order. The simple entrée took 45 minutes to arrive. The reason cited: other customers ordered food at same time ?!
Bar dining area was uncomfortably warm. A/C not working properly. There were houseflies flying nearby circling food that had to be waved off.
Staff and servers appeared stressed. Chronically understaffed.
Drink order was delivered incorrect (on the rocks vs up), but everything was moving so slow it seemed safer not to send it back.
Perhaps my worst experience at JG. Is there a new owner?
