Jessica's at Swift House
Jessica’s is a quaint Victorian inn in charming Middlebury in a quiet neigborhood with an excellent menu and a strong chef. The wine list and David, the sommelier, is personable and knowledgeable. It’s a pleasure to dine and drink at Jessica’s.
Always great. And the wine menu is fantastic
Very nice Inn with a lovely restaurant And cozy little bar. Really enjoyed chatting with the bartender who was very friendly and interesting. Staff was professional and fun. Highly recommend.
Lovely ambiance and excellent, welcoming service
Beautiful building, great atmosphere - engaging, friendly, knowledgeable staff, fantastic food. Limited menu, but it doesn't matter because the choices are so good. The rating says it's a "$$$" restaurant, but it's so classy, and the staff treats you so well, you'll feel more like your at a "$$$$+" place. Highly recommended.
Fabulous meal, wonderful service, sommelier was personable, friendly & gave a great wine pairing!
Jessica’s is our go to place for great food with friends. It is quiet so it is easy to have a conversation, the acoustics in so many restaurants have an echo that makes hearing difficult. We are both vegetarians and we are never disappointed with the changing menu.
We love Jessica's Restaurant. Always an excellent meal, great wine list, friendly staff and classic Vermont charm.
We love the Swift House Inn and stay there regularly, but this was actually our first dinner at Jessica’s! We had no idea what we were missing...great wine and fabulous food in a relaxed, charming VT setting.
SUPERB, Absolutely Wonderful Place. Food, Drinks, Service, Atmosphere were Unmatched!! Highly Recommend!!!!
Our food was delicious. The service was excellent. And the drinks exceedingly well made.
This place is a gem! So lovely from the host/sommelier to server to the food. All was wonderful!
This was our first time dining at Jessica's Restaurant. Everything was exceptional. Our daughter enjoyed sharing Belgian fries, Greek salad and even the Duck two ways. We will definitely return.
Small portions. Food cold. Waitress snippy. Husband got sick that night from bad piece of Salmon. Sad to say, won't be going back.
Can't wait until next time
LOve the fireplace
Always a delightful experience at Jessica’s. The braised lamb shank melted in the mouth. The Argentinian Malbec was not very good. Disappointed that they took the Meiomi Pinot noir off the list.
A wonderful place to dine. One can go out to eat at a multitude places but this is one of those places where one can truly dine. The food was exceptional as was the service and atmosphere. When you leave you will only be thinking of when you can make it back. Treat yourself to this experience. The food alone will blow you away but the rest of the whole experience will only make you want to come back.
What a great evening with close friends who were visiting from Texas. The atmosphere was great, service was stellar and the food was fantastic. More good memories from Jessica's and the Swift House Inn
This was my first experience at Jessica's, and I would heartily recommend it to anyone desiring fine dining! My only issue was the noise level in the room we were in, and I have hearing issues regardless! All other aspects of our experience were superb, and I can't fault Jessica's for noisy patrons who were also enjoying their high-quality meal!
Everything went smoothly, the staff couldn't be better
A very special evening. The service set the stage for an exciting dining experience and the food was lovely. Thanks so much.
Nice homely vibe and feel , good wine list , cheeses excellent, mains ok
Great meal and what a wine selection!
Lovely dinner at a Vermont Inn. The food and service were excellent. I had a vegetarian entry of stuffed squash. The seasoning was spot on and I left feeling full. Of course, topping it off with the banana bread pudding helped.
Great food & service! The menu has a bit of variety for anyones liking. Always a great experience!!
Food was delicious and sommelier quite knowledgeable when helping us choose a bottle of wine. As to ambience, white tablecloths would help. Also we had requested a table by the fireplace when making reservation, but were not even offered a table in that room. As we walked through, we saw the fireplaces weren’t lit anyway - a bit strange for October in VT! Overall though, we enjoyed the food and wine and feel it was a good choice for a special occasion.
We stayed at the Swift House Inn (which we highly recommend) and ate at Jessica's. The meal was absolutely lovely. The food was delicious and we felt that we were dining in someone's home. The manager walked table to table to talk to guests, which was a nice touch. Highly recommend! We only spent one night there but it was the highlight of our trip as far as accomodations and food go.
David, the sommelier, was very knowledgeable about the extensive wine list. Our waiter, Drew, looked after us very well and tuned each course to perfection.
Our meals were delicious.
We plan to return!
We were on vacation and looking for a memorable local restaurant. This was a great choice with an outstanding wine list and great service.
Stayed at the Swift House Inn
One night in Middlebury, we decided to give Jessica’s a try, having heard good things. We are glad we did. This was certainly the best meal we had in Vermont during an extended vacation. Menu was nicely varied, allowing diners to just graze, or have a (very good) burger, or enjoy something more elaborate, many things incorporating regional ingredients. While food was upscale, setting was relaxed and informal. Clientele was a combination of locals, inn guests and visitors to the college.
Wine list was a pleasant surprise, featuring some overlooked gems, both American and European. Beer drinkers would be happy with something from the short list of craft beers.
I have only given 3 stars for service. The host and server were both very nice, but we were ignored for some time after being seated, and had to wait quite a while to get the bottle of wine we ordered, while the manager was busy bussing tables and scurrying back and forth to the kitchen. I can only assume they were under-staffed that particular evening, and this is not the norm. We would definitely return.
There are very few restaurants that get a total excellence score from me, meeting ALL of my criteria. Jessica's has just done that. Thank you for a really lovely dinner! My only regret is that you are a four hour drive from my home.
2 couples celebrated one of the four’s 69th birthday on a Sunday mid-September night. Our table was not quite ready when we arrived, so we had delicious cocktails in the cozy bar (all to ourselves) and good conversation with the friendly bartender during the 5 minute wait. We moved to our table in the smaller dining room (4 tables), as the larger was filled with diners on a inn to inn biking tour. The dining rooms are warmly decorated in keeping with the inn’s previous use as an early VT governor’s mansion: fireplace, wood floors and tables, etc. in a bucolic setting walking distance to downtown. The house Cabernet Sauvignon recommended by the sommelier was enjoyed by all. The eclectic menu, much being locally sourced, was a delight. All shared the fabulous melt in your mouth broccoli kale hybrid blossoms that were flash fried as an appetizer, in addition to separate orders of chicken liver pate on baguette and smoked bacon corn chowder, all delish. The duck “served 2 ways”, center loin pork chops, and Swift burgers with potato fries rendered in duck fat were all excellent thoroughly enjoyed entrees that were on clean plates when we were done. One serving of the homemade salted caramel ice cream was communally shared for the ending to a wonderful dining experience. The wait staff was informative, friendly, and respectful of our “private” corner table. A place we had not been to for awhile, but where we will return at least quarterly to enjoy the seasonally changed menu.
Wonderful location. The small bar was fantastic: friendly, comfortable, excellent bar tending. Restaurant area was warm, inviting, with non-intrusive yet efficient wait service. And the food: my “2 way” duck for sumptuous.
Food and service were excellent. However, there was a major glitch between OpenTable and Jessica's, in which my reservation was recorder as 8:00 PM rather than 7:30. This necessitated having to wait 35 minutes while the staff was juggling times in able to seat us. They staff also said they did not book reservations on the half-hour.
We were staying at the Swift House during the week after Labor Day. Decided to go to dinner on our 2nd night at Jessica's. Just a wonderful, romantic, perfect dinner. We were pleasantly surprised by the attention to detail and as many servers as they had on a Wednesday night. We normally don't order the specials, but I had the Halibut and my wife had the filet. Just wonderful. Flavorful and presented beautifully. Lovely B&B. Thank you for a great dinner.
Everything was perfect except for the somewhat skimpy cocktails which were not in keeping with my overall impressions.
Beautiful Restaurant, gorgeous location. Food was excellent Service outstanding. The owner really knows how to take care of patrons. Just a wonderful place for my wife’s birthday.
The hospitality, from the hostess to the bartender to the server, was fantastic. We felt welcomed and appreciated. The food was delicious, and beautifully presented. We ordered the glazed pork chop, the salmon and the almond encrusted halibut, and each dish was flavorful. The Malbec was lovely. The woman who waited on us was really sweet to engage my son in conversation about starting school at Middlebury College.
