Johnny's - Schenectady
Excellent food and great location! On show nights, it can get a little hectic; but the convenience far outweighs the slight dip in service.
Relaxed, family style atmosphere with delicious food. Homemade pasta is wonderful. Service is excellent. The military discount was a welcome surprise when they found out that our son is a Marine and my husband is retired Air force.
Excellent restaurant, only complaint it’s so popular you must book your reservations weeks in advance for an early dinner before 7PM.
This is usually my favorite restaurant in the Schenectady area. First I made a reservation 2 weeks in advance and asked for a ground table for my mother and they gave up a high top table upon arriving. They moved us to the worse seat in the house across from the kitchen doors. We ordered drinks and appetizers. We didnt consider our app to have taken long but to them it did and we were informed it was free. We ordered our food and I asked for no mushrooms. We kept being told our food was coming right up. Folks who sat down after us but we ordered before were getting there food. There is a new manager there. I like the other one better but he said they were 2 tickets behind. Which was a lie. So I called him out and just said listen if something was messed up please bring out what is ready things happen. I then said people who sat down after us are getting their food. He then brought it out and my dish which I clearly ask for no mushrooms had mushrooms. At this point my niece filled up on bread and soda and non of us were hungry waiting over a hour for our food. Not sure whats going on at Johnny's but I have never had this experience.
we went to dinner with two little girls and our dinning experience was perfect staff was very friendly
and helpful I cant wait to go back.
We had a 4:45 reservation and the hostess was very accommodating to us. We specifically reserved a regular table not a high top but were given a high top anyway. They said something about open table reservations always get them. When we questioned it she didn’t argue and they set up a new table for us in a side room which was very pleasant. Service and food was wonderful! Great pre show dinner! If the hostess had not accommodated us so pleasantly we would not have been happy.
The girl at the front greeting and checking folks in was overworked. No way she should be answering 2 nonstop ringing phones and checking folks in. Overheard her tell another customer they open at 5pm but my reservation was for 4:45pm. Why do they take reservations prior to the time they open? Folks with the same reservation time were not seated in the order they checked in. I complained and was met with a curt “ok”. Check in was not an efficient process at all. When I was seated, I was seated at a high top in the bar where it was extremely noisy. When I made the reservation I specifically chose a table other than a high top so I’m wondering if it was pay back for my complaint. The high top was not large enough to accommodate the food ordered as the food delivery was poorly timed so there was no room on the small table for drinks, bread, salad and 2 entrees. I made this reservation well in advance but felt as though I was just shoved into a corner like a last minute add on. Too much commotion and noise at the bar. Also, lights turned down too low to see what you are eating. The food is good, except for the ziti that was so overcooked it was mush, but it’s not good enough to overcome all the other nonsense. Would not recommend.
It was my retired co-workers first time at Johnny’s. They loved it!
Food and service is excellent. Hard to find a restaurant with great service, they care about their customer
Food was delicious and our server was pleasant. Service seemed to slow after dinner while waiitng for our check. We may had been anxious because we had show tickets.
Food and service were great
I made a reservation for 7:45 pm. When we arrived, we had to wait a half an hour to be seated. Unacceptable. The waitress was fantastic, very friendly. The food was good. It was so loud in there, we could not hear each other. We will not be returning!
Positive experience. Good good. Convenient for Proctors!
It was a lovely birthday celebration
Service was top notch and meals were excellent. Shrimp in the shrimp scampi were huge, and no skimping as there were six. Homemade tagliatelle was delicious in all the meals. Veal in scallopini was plentiful, tender and tasty. Really liked that it was served on a bed of fresh julienne veggies vs. pasta. The calamari appetizer was a good portion and very good.
We had a positive experience here. The appetizers were delicious especially the clams and the fried calamari. The side salad was very good. My husband and I both had the chicken marsala. The flavor and the sides were very good, but the chicken was too tough.
I would come back but I think I would order appetizers and pizza next time.
Great ambiance, food and service!
This is the second tome we have gone to Johnnys since we completely loved it the first time. We brought another couple with us this time and it was even better than the first time. We had Vince at the bar and Donna as our server and they are both TOP NOTCH. I also very much appreciate the veterans discount and the patriotic feel the establishment has. This is our go to place for date night now. Thank you
We love Johnny's...the food is great and and the staff is the BEST!!
Everyone talks about Cornell's, D'Raymonds, Cafe Cappricio....for my money best Italian Food for the price in Schenectady and the entire Capital Region and the service from reception to waitstaff to food service was outstanding!
Have been to Johnny’s 5 times. The last 2 have been very disappointing. Service is the issue. They seem to never have enough help, and half the servers act like they do not want to be there. Last night, unfortunately, was no different. It was extremely hot and loud. Our waitress looked at us with our drinks empty for 20 minutes. Food was half hot, half cold. Didn’t have a drink during dinner (since we were not checked on). Finally ordered a Manhattan and received an Old Fashion after dinner was done. Gave back the Old Fashion and asked that it be taken off the bill. Got the bill and only 66% of the wrong drink was taken off. Paid the bill and will most likely not return. The shame is the first three times, it was a nice experience...
Enjoyed the mushroom ravioli as a shared appetizer. The veal marsala and the swordfish special were delicious. The cheesecake for dessert was well worth the calories. Enough to share for two.
What a nice way to celebrate our anniversary!
Johnny's is a nice place to eat. It has a bar area but also has a separate eating area that was quiet and pleasant yet the bar area was not noisy either. The staff was pleasant and efficient and the food was delicious. Menu will please all! If you are visiting the area I would recommend eating there.
We had a lot of fun at Johnny’s. The service was attentive without being inferring. The food was excellent. Two of us got the steak Amalfi which was excellent. Parking was no problem.
Excellent service by our waiter, Joe and all seven of us loved our meals.
Great service and food!
Great food and drinks. wonderful server. Quick service
Out of town friends. Loved it
We always enjoy our time here- always friendly and attentive.
If you come - ask for Jo Jo to serve you - he works hard to please you.
Great food, great drinks, great atmosphere!!! Only regret is that I didn’t visit sooner.
Spent our 19th anniversary at Johnny's. The food was delicious. The service was great. Enjoyed a yummy gelato cake compliments of Johnny's. Will definitely recommend to friends!
Sauce was delicious as were the arancini, bread and my husband's seafood pasta. Very flexible with sauce changes and menu substitutions. Will definitely go again.
Very nice dinner before a show.
Excellent for dining before a show at Proctors - super convenient! Server was excellent, food was very good. Two of the three dishes came out steaming hot -- third was lukewarm. Excellent kids menu but limited juice options.
If you're desiring great Italian this place is a must.
Anytime I'm in the Schnectady area I make sure to make time to eat here.
Overall outstanding dining experience. Seated promptly and food was excellent! Everyone in our party enjoyed their dinner choices not one bad complaint. Ambulance is fantastic a bit noisy on this night. Server was overall efficient & friendly, could have been a bit more attentive but more than adequate. Great night to celebrate my wife’s birthday with some friends!
Fun atmosphere. Nice, casual, clean. Popular location in the city. Everyone knows Johnny’s. Probably in the top 3 most popular restaurants in Schenectady NY
We went to Johnny’s to celebrate my sons 17th b day. Johnnys made it so special. It seemed like all the staff knew it was his b day and wished him a happy birthday. Quite special! The food and everything as always is top notch. Thanks for a great celebration dinner!
We have dined at Johnny's and was always satisfied and recommended it to our friends. We dined there on Saturday July 27th and I had to ask the waitress if it was under new management because I could not believe that it was the fine restaurant that I dined in so many times before. The food was not up to par. The Chicken Cognac, which was always my favorite, had no taste, the chicken was cut very thick and no sauce. I asked the waitress to bring extra sauce on the side and that was all Cognac with little no taste of the Dijon mustard. The other person ordered the Veal Milanese, I think they put the veal in the deep fryer, very bland, NO lemon or butter sauce. The third person ordered Shrimp Diablo, again bland and not enjoyable. This is the last time I or my guests will frequent Johnny's. All I can think of the saying "Where's Johnny". Good luck to them they are going to need it.
