Overall a good experience due to our server and the great company.
Our service was almost non-existent - we had to go to the bar to get our own sodas, and when the server finally brought our bottle of wine, he didn't even open it. He just left it on the table, and walked away. The food was fine, nothing special.
Our server was new and really struggled. Nice guy who could do well if trained, but he struggled to get order right, deliver drinks or food in timely fashion and deliver food without dropping and staining my nephew’s shirt.
Seemed like most of serving staff is new. Was surprisingly quiet for a Friday night. Wondering what has happened to the energy of the place. Something just seemed off. I hope they get it together as we have enjoyed the food and atmosphere in the past.
Great mix of sushi Asian and American quinine. Good option if you have folks in your party who don’t like sushi as they will have plenty of options.

Really sorry to say that since they changed staff and management the place has gone downhill. The sushi is no longer good and I'd say with their changing their happy hour to end earlier at 6pm, they've shot themselves in the foot. Very empty at lunchtime also and food is not as good as it used to be. Won't likely go there much anymore unless something changes.

This was a surprising find in Arlington. We had a great lunch with a variety of fun bites .The wait staff was very congenial and low key. The price point was very acceptable! The libation selection was great!
The food is good - the noise level is very loud - the service varies but always slow.
Second visit. Frankly the first trip was better but the food was still good. Cuban Sandwich is excellent. Salmon was not a hit as it was bathed in a ginger teriyaki sauce that took away the taste of the fish. Side of fried rice and spinach and sweet potato was excellent however. Service was good. A bit slow but not unbearable. Restaurant AC was working well and it was freezing inside! Kona is a good place if you come with the right expectation. I'd go again if I was in the general area but wouldn't make a special trip.
We come because the kiddos love the fish in the huge aquarium and because there is something on the menu for all of us. Service has been less than stellar the last two times we’ve been there. If there are kiddos at the table, generally the parents want to get them squared away first and want to order their meals ASAP. We’ll prob stay away for a while and give them another chance in a few months.
Excellent service and food. We could carry on a conversation only with difficulty.. This is a great place for terrific sushi, etc. and group celebration but not for a business meeting
Went early Saturday and we were the only large group. Took a longish while to get our food, but the food was surprisingly delicious. Definitely recommend the burgers and sliders.
WORST DINING EXPERIENCE IVE HAD IN A VERY LONG TIME. I’ve eaten here quite a bit and last night honestly might have been my last. Everything about it was horrible - management, service, food... i can’t think of one good thing. Where to start...
The service was pretty nonexistent from our server from the start. I sat there watching as she waited on every single one of her other tables, but ours. I had to finally ask another server working last night for drink refills, soy sauce for our sushi and the cups to put the soy sauce in for our sushi. He was great.
The lady who dropped our food off would have known we didn't have these items if she looked at our table. She threw our food down and walked away, not saying a word.
The calamari and a sushi roll that is fried were super overcooked - calamari to the point it crumbled apart and was dry when you bit it. Disgusting. I complained to the manager after our sushi was bad and i had tried to flag down our server multiple times unsuccessfully. The manager (Antonio) NOT ONCE came back by to check on us to see if the food was ok or to see if the service had gotten any better, which it hadn't.
The server even had the nerve to come up and say she didn't understand why we didn't like the sushi roll because everyone likes the one we ordered...
well yeah... I'm sure it's an awesome fried roll if it wasn't fried so much to the point the fish was so dry you had to drink water to wash it down.
The only good thing about the meal was the carrot cake, which was a let down bc i had to ask 3 TIMES for it to surprise my mom for her birthday and it was no longer a surprise when i had to tell them for the THIRD TIME TO BRING IT OUT and she knew something was up at that point.
This visit has definitely made me consider never coming back to this restaurant because NOTHING was done to rectify the situation and it wasn't just bad here and there. The entire meal/evening there was horrible and a huge disappointment.
The food was mostly good, although we had to wait a long time for it. The potstickers were very good, but we discovered a rubber band in the slaw mix that came with it. The restaurant didn’t charge us for it. The rainbow roll and sashimi were decent, but nothing to write home about. The service was nice enough, but a little scattered.
First time diners at Kona Grill this weekend and it was awesome. Our waiter (I think he said his name is Nisham but I may have gotten that wrong) was excellent.
Great happy hour specials, we tried a bunch of food and it was all well priced and tasted good!
Very poor service. Our waiter was Alex. I informed the hostess about an issue and she said she would let the manager know. We never heard from either.
Food was great, service was lacking and despite the food being tasty we found ourselves still hungry. It was a bit pricey( a fountain drink was $3.50 and never was asked for a refill). It just wasn’t worth the price of admission.
Went here for dinner with a few friends, and sat outside given the nice weather. Atmosphere was fine - nice deck area for outside seating; inside was less crowded with louder music. The service is what made this experience much less enjoyable. Our server did not have answers to any of the very simple questions we asked (specials, preparation, availability) and repeatedly had to go ask someone else before coming back to the table. She also couldn't answer which sushi had raw or cooked seafood in it, and we had to explain that we needed a definitive answer due to food restrictions for one member of our group. It took 25 minutes to place a drink and appetizer order, then another 20 to place our entree order. The appetizer came out about 5 minutes before the entrees did. The food was decent - sushi roll was well-made and the tempura flakes gave a nice crunch, and my friend said her poke bowl was flavorful. We waited for our check with a table full of plates ready to be cleared, and finally got it 15 minutes later. Overall, if the service issues were worked out, I would come back!
I'm sorry to say that since a recent changeover in management the food is not as good as previously. Also they changed the happy hour time from 4pm-7pm to 3pm-6pm. Especially the sushi which is no longer tight and tidy like good sushi should be. I don't know what happened but, except for one very good waiter, no-one really seems to care much whether the food tastes good, is well presented or good value. Really disappointing. There are so few really good mid-range restaurants any more. All you need is really fresh, simple ingredients with interesting recipes, good value, great service and great attitude. When I go to a restaurant I really would like to have something that is better than I can cook myself. Another let-down.

Came here on a whim. Wanted sushi.. and while this was certainly a strange atmosphere (kinda like a tgifridays with club music?).. we really loved the food. Ended up getting like 6 sushi rolls. Server made great recommendations. Had a great time. Only complaint would be the atmosphere. Had a sports bar.. fish tank.. neon lights.. club music.. open kitchen.. it was a total sensory overload.

Very poor device from serving of starters took over 1 hour to main courses which arrived for different people at different times wit 20 minute gap. Not table servers fault but kitchen and bar looked understaffed
We chose Kona Grill because of the great menu - a lot of healthy choices with a focus on seafood. Great choice for people on Paleo diet, Whole30 or anything else focused on protein and vegetables. I enjoyed my sushi and my friends enjoyed the poke options. Overall, food is good, wine selection is decent. Great casual neighborhood place I'll go back.
My only complaint was the timing of the service. Our waiter was friendly and helpful, but there was a big disconnect between the kitchen and the servers. We got our entrees before the appetizers, for instance. And, after the table was laden with food, one person was still left without an entree, which we had to chase down. Eventually, we all got fed. If you have anyone in your party who gets upset about timing and delivery, though, take note.
Our table was all industry so we really tried to be lenient but things just kept getting worse.
- Water had to be requested and when we did it was still a 10-15 minute wait after reminding the server
- The first round of drinks took a long time. We should have learned our lessons. Our server didn’t ask if we wanted a second round. We requested it. Took over 15 minutes for that. Literally all four of us finished our drinks and placed them in the middle of the table and waited a while after requesting the after and not having that. We had nothing to eat or drink at the table for at least five minutes. So we requested the soups at least and to please double check on our drinks and bring our water.
- We brought up to the manager that the food had taken over a half hour. He said it was due to the jambalaya which in the end was partially burnt with dry chicken. We then had to request soy sauce and chopsticks for the sushi they brought out
- I took a sip out of my drink and immediately noticed it was not the same cucumber drink I had originally ordered. It was a vodka soda. It didn’t even have the cucumber
- The manager took the drink to remake it. The server did not stop by to see how our meal was or he would have noticed I had no cocktail and no water which sucked when having spicy sushi
- The chicken on the sandwich order was clearly burnt and rubbery
- The sushi was good
In the end this was a terrible restaurant experience. Service was lacking and even if the server is inexperienced, water service is common sense and the manager should have been on top of it before things got that far. In the end we got a lot of excuses for way too many mistakes from kitchen to bar to server.
Bartender was rude and far more concerned with his regular customers. We were ignored, even though it was not busy, and he seemed annoyed when we would ask for service.
Was excellent food and service but the music was so loud - it was like being in a dance club.
The food and service were great however the noise level is very high. The music is very loud and forces you t yell at the table so you can be heard by your dining partners.
The meals were very good. Couldn't complain. Tuna not overcooked and the salmon had a wonderful taste and both were presented nicely. Wait staff can hover a bit but not too bad. HOWEVER, the restaurant can become very noisy when crowded AND the choice of the ambient music is not something I enjoyed. Too loud and couldn't carry on a conversation. Still Kona Grill is good and I'd go back. Maybe in between lunch and dinner when it's quieter.
We lost power during the meal because of a storm and the staff were extremely professional and we were still able to enjoy our meal. Food was great, service was great. We're looking forward to going back!
Love this Place. The food is amazing. Isabela, our waitress was so wonderful and attentive. And because we were celebrating our son's engagement, the manager brought a gratis bottle of Champagne 🍾!
The food was great and the service was terrific. The noise level is ridiculous. On top of TVs blaring and pumped-in music at supersonic volumes, an open kitchen is a sometimes interesting idea, but the sound of pots and pans being dropped regularly wasn't very conducive to a pleasant evening. I couldn't recommend the place to anyone who wants to talk without screaming. Plus, younger people are always oblivious to these things, but hearing damage is cumulative and irreversible.
Food was good, server must have been new as he forgot the water, the chopsticks and gave me the wrong order. Also disappointed they no longer keep a few tables/booths near the bar for happy hour. The music was way too loud - couldn't hear anything but very loud music. I like music - and play it pretty loud sometimes - but when you want to have a conversation with your dining companion - you don't want loud music blaring so that you can't hear.
Went to Kona with a large group of girlfriends and we were very pleased with the experience overall. Our table was ready when we arrived and the service was spot on all night. The food (we had a wide variety including sushi, burgers, salads, and pasta) and everyone complimented their dishes... we even got a dessert and the portion was HUGE! Our drinks delivered and the ambiance, although loud, kept energy high. Certainly a place we'd make a return visit.
