Love this spot! Great for small parties. Food's amazing.
Always timely service here, love the small plates. Food taste presentation and preparation first rate.
Value, for sure. Variety? Absolutely. Service was as friendly as much as a masked Specialist could make it. (And I'm a mask believer.) Food came steadily. Hot and ready to mangare. Well, for an Italian. I'll go back, certainly.
Went last night and the staff was very accommodating to moving up my reservation last minute. If I could give the food more than 5 stars I would! The paella marinera we had surpassed our expectations and the ambience was cozy, perfect for a romantic date because the music wasn’t too loud yet added very positively to the energy of the room. I will definitely be returning!
A crazy person assaulted my husband and me as we paused outside the door to put our masks on. The host said he’s there all the time. Why don’t they ask police to protect their customers and their business from assault? This man saw I was trying to put on a mask and deliberately blew a long breath into my nose and laughed. He kept trying to shove a hat onto my husband’s head. Then, as this was not dangerous enough in a pandemic, inside diners were jammed so closely together it looked more like a lifeboat than a restaurant. Finally, the inside host told us that despite our having a reservation, they were very overbooked and had no idea how long it would be. Even if we wanted to wait, it was so crowded we would have had to wait outside. Sure. Needless to say we will not be back, nor could I recommend La Marcha to others.
Great tapas bar/restaurant! Have been coming here for a few years and recommend to all my family and friends.
La Marcha has been one of our favorite spots for years now. The food is always excellent, and they have the best sangria around!
Place is small but cozy. Got there at 5 pm for happy hour. Ordered paella when we ordered apps and drinks. Paella arrived when we finished apps. Service is excellent. Very attentive. Would recommend.
We love the food at this restaurant and have eaten there many times. Our most recent visit was not ideal due to the drafty, cold air that characterized the atmosphere. The staff was very nice and tried their best to alleviate the situation (front door of restaurant would not stay closed and heater was broken).
I would highly recommend this restaurant, but not during periods of cool weather.
Reservations for 7 PM. Showed up five minutes early, they seated us at 7:30. Food is quite tasty, front of house is understaffed and it shows.
I always enjoy coming to LaMarcha for tapas and Paella. The service is great and the food is delicious.
Had a great time as always. Food is great, and the atmosphere is just right.
All the foods were very flavorful and rich enough to fulfill my taste buds and stomach even though I ordered less than usual. My server, she was very nice and understanding. I must admit I'm not as well-versed and knowledgeable about alcohol and pairings, but my server never judged me on that and let me try them. All the servers were very lovely and accommodating and I hope people give them patience especially during these pandemic times where people are unusually less patient and rude. Just enjoy the food and your company and all will be well, and that is what La Marcha gave me even if I dined alone. Good food, ambiance, company, and flavors.
Meh. The food is somewhat tasty but almost everything is fried, and we had woodsy, tough broccolini that was slathered in improperly scorched oil. We felt unwell after eating. The room is too bright, and the ugly shockingly lit kitchen is main focal point…easily fixed by a folding screen btw. On the bright side, very nice servers and good wine.
We were unable to get a table, after waiting for 10 min to have someone help us. We decided to go somewhere else.
Was really looking forward to dining here as I love a great Spanish-style feast. Although the food was pretty tasty the ambience was way off and the service was erratic. I don't think I'll go back until the front-of-house gets it's act together.
We loved the atmosphere, the service & the seafood Paella, goat cheese stuffed red peppers, calamari fried appetizer & Brussels Sprouts were all delicious.
Building is in need of an uplift to creat greater ambiance. Seating was uncomfortable. Service was good but it took a while to get main course served. Also, the churros were stale and dry.
Very glad we made reservations, as there was a constant crowd out front waiting for a table to open up. That said, our party of 5 never felt rushed. Service was attentive without being overbearing, and food came out promptly. The paella is outstanding - also highly recommend patatas bravas, Brussel sprouts and the roasted red peppers with goat cheese. We will be back!
The third time again is a charm for the food quality and variety. All plates were well seasoned and tasteful. Service was a challenge last time we visited and was close to disastrous last night. There were more people outside waiting than inside at a table. The service team had no sense of urgency to get people in their seats. Once at the table, it was okay but La Marcha needs to pivot out of this funky handling of reservations, walk-ins, and overall table management.
We learned about tapas visiting Spain this past summer, so when I learned about La Marcha recently I knew we had to go there. Small plates of croquettes of mushrooms, of crab, of shrimp and onion; grilled broccolini in a romesco pistachio sauce; albondigas of boar and beef — we ate so many we had no capacity for any of the seven paellas (next time!). Delicious red sangria. Friendly service although a bit harried. It’s a delicious and delightful little restaurant to which we are certain to return.
Service was moderately attentive. Food was decent but not memorable.
Our dinner at La Marcha last night was quite a disappointment. We had had some decent tapas there a few months ago, and made reservations several weeks in advance go back and try their paella.
The atmosphere was cold, both in temperature and in the attitude of the hostess. On a chilly evening, she seated us at a drafty table near the door, though there were a couple of tables further away from the door. When we asked to change to one of those she told us brusquely that someone had already reserved those. She told us she would "see what she could do", but never checked back with us, and one of those tables remained empty until near the end of the meal, while other warmer tables opened up throughout the evening.
Though the restaurant wasn't full, service was mediocre; we ordered paella, and olives as a starter. The olives took about 15 minutes to arrive, and had little flavor. The paella, which we were told required a half hour to make, came about 45 minutes later, and was not worth the wait. The server was not particularly attentive, but not bad. There tended to be quite a lag time before our wines by the glass arrived.
So we won't be going back.
Place is cold, food is average and the service is okay. I ordered an appetizer (croquetas de jamón) and some of the pieces were cold. The cheese plate had only 3 small pieces of cheese but the paella and churros were okay. The sangrias were not good at all.
I wouldn’t recommend it.
fried items were overcooked; short ribs were rather gristly; hamburger/siders excellent if quite hot (spicy).
Nice place, nice food, nice staff. Will be back for sure!
Host was downright hostile. Our reservation was completely disregarded, and we were not updated as we stood outside waiting for a very long time for a table to clear. Once inside however, our server was delightful and attentive, and the food was outstanding. Tough to write this review, as we had made a reservation well in advance for a special celebration, and the overall experience was soured by the staff's initial treatment of our party. We also observed some staff being either dismissive, or straight up rude to some other diners. We understand how tight staffing is, and how hard people are working, so we still tipped 25% in order to not penalize the rest of the staff for the unacceptable behavior of some of their co-workers.
We will never go back for a special occasion, but will most likely go again on a regular night.
And again, food was fabulous!
It was a lovely experience. Our waitress gave us great recommendations and helped my mom by speaking in Spanish
Had an 8pm reservation. At 7:50 received a call from a very brusque person asking if I was going to be there because I was their last seating. The tone of the call was very off-putting and made me feel entirely unwelcome. It made me feel as if they were more concerned about closing up (maybe early?). When I arrived, I was approached by an employee who identified herself as the person who called. I asked if it was ok for us to still have our table and politely told her how the call made me feel. Once again she was very short with me, nearly combative. She did not smile or apologize or do anything at all to make me feel welcome. It was obvious we would have an awful experience if we stayed, so we went elsewhere. This is not my first visit, but it will be my last. Note to management: the woman with a neck tattoo and dark hair has horrible customer service skills.
Food wasn’t great like we had before. Paella was too greasy, no flavor. Waitress was not good. Service was slow we got there at 5pm and order almost right away …paella took longer that usual. Waiter after they bring the paella was bad not checking if we need anything we order a beer and they forgot it. We waiting for the check and we had to go the bar to asked for it.. . Music was loud. Food 👎🏻
Food is so amazing and came very quickly. We arrived early but they still seated us immediately. It was a little noisier than I like but that wouldn’t deter me from going again. Very cool urban spot. Also super affordable. Every dish was unique and delicious. Check it out. You’ll be glad you did!
Food was good, but not as good as they claim to be. Nothing bad to say about our server, but the hostess was unprofessional and down right rude. Rude over the phone, talking sh*t and making annoyed facial expressions about guests with her coworkers. You can find better tapas and definitely better service all over the bay. First and last for me.
Food is excellent, wide selection of tapas. Moderately noisy, but could still here my guest speaking. Ribs and calamari outstsnding!
Please, spend some money and give the restaurant a deep clean and a coat of paint.
This place is filthy and scuffed up. I am glad they survived the pandemic but they did not use the PPE money to provide a clean space for customers.
I am not a clean freak. Go here, and take a look at the doorways, the bathroom doors which are disgusting, the ledges by the windows -- I don't understand how you can serve food in a place that looks and feels so filthy.
It make a difference on how the food is perceived. It does not matter how good the food is, please, please clean your restaurant.
La Marcha is one of the best restaurants in Berkeley. The food is absolutely fantastic (especially the Colifor and the mushroom croquettas). You are also never rushed to finish your meal quickly and leave your table, contrary to most American restaurants that rush to give you your check right away. This does mean that sometimes it is hard to get a waiter's attention if you want to order some extra food, but overall it is positive. The music can sometimes be a bit loud inside, but overall this is my favorite restaurant in Berkeley and I bring everyone I know there.
I asked for a pair of clean plates and the little boy said "the kitchen is too busy, can you just wait"...never came back...sooo ya know, not cool..our server was sweet and helpful to make up for it
Wine selection limited & overpriced!
They try their best to take care of you.
Service was terrible. Constantly struggled to get attention of servers
Excellent and (mostly) authentic Spanish food. We lived in Barcelona for six years, so are always looking for a restaurant that can recreate the ambience and flavors of our favorites from Barcelona. La Marcha has delivered that for us over many visits. This time we started with some tapas of croquetas de pollo y champinones both were succulent and hit the flavors spot on. That was accompanied by brussel sprouts on the grill (not typical of the area, but well prepared here) and calamari which are very traditional tapas along the Rambla. The paella Valenciana was very good, though the paella could have spent a bit more time on the heat, as there was no soccarat (browned rice) on the bottom, and while the flavor was good, it should have been a bit drier. We finished off with requeson cheesecake (quince) and the torta de aceite - both excellent. My only complaint is common to many Spanish restaurants in the US - the sangria is overpriced. In Spain it is made with the cheapest red wine which is augmented with Fanta limon, orange juice and if you want to be fancy a splash of cointreau. I'll go back again and again to La Marcha!
