Las Fuentes Restaurant - Chicago
There was a wedding that got rained out so they had to come inside instead of the patio. But the wait wasn’t long and the food was great, as were the Margaritas.
Most important for any Mexican restaurant, the margaritas, they were spot on. The food and service were great also. Don’t judge a book by it’s cover applies here too.
The food used to be excellent. It appears that the kitchen has changed. The guacamole had no taste it was like eating an avocado with no seasoning. The main course lacked taste and seasoning. We have placed the restaurant on vacation.
Very vibrant scene; Al Fresco dining is great here
Our waiter was great but the kitchen was slow and it took 40 minutes for out food to be brought out on a random weeknight. Our waiter kept apologizing and offered an extra drink which we did not take. He also brought dessert on the house for my kids.
We went here with a small group of friends and were unfortunately disappointed. The restaurant did not feel clean and was rather run down, the space is excessively loud, and the food is nothing to write home about. They have a big outdoor patio and the drinks are strong, so if you're coming for that, this would still be a good place. We won't be coming back.
Went with a crew of my friends & we loved it here. The ambiance was awesome & the food was dope.
I used to pass by this place everyday and I finally decided to go in. I went in for lunch, around 3.30pm on a Monday..I even made a reservation just in case it was busy..I was surprised to walk in an be the only customer..I had to look around for someone to ask if they are even open. Finally someone asked me if I need help. When I said I was by myself the server was very surprised. It took a while to place an order..food was great but there was a gentleman in the restaurant that was singing and not that he had a nice voice, I would have enjoyed it if he did. It was pretty disturbing.. again food was great..service was a little slow..I am sure that at night time and over the weekends the place it booming. I might give it another chance when it’s warmer out so I can enjoy the patio.
Love this place!
Had a reservation on Open Table & they said we'd have to wait 1 1/2 hours for our food bc the kitchen was backed up. Chips were soggy, they were understaffed & appetizer was awful. Bathroom wasn't filthy.
Please please please turn the music down. The food and margaritas were good. However, the experience was ruined because we could barely hear each other over the music - even though we were seated at a very small table.
Great place really good food like the fact that there wasn't an upcharge to make guacamole without onions. Drinks were also great.
My friends and I had a 5:30 reservation on a Friday night, pretty empty when we got there, started filling up by the time we left at 6:30. Our server was fantastic, my friends liked their cocktails. I had a quesadilla which was really good, chunky chicken pieces. Don't remember what my friends had but we all left full and happy.
Wonderful entrees, drinks and guacamole. The server was awesome
Awesome food and service!
Service was great. Food average. But I just had tostados
Awesome, as always. A lifetime favorite. Have been here sor once a month for years
Our waiter simply was not pleasant. My date and I felt unwelcomed and rushed when the place was not crowded in the least. Terrible customer experience.
Only thing they desperately needed was citronella candles as we were seated outside and there were flies and bugs everywhere , we spent most of our time swatting them away , watching our drinks profusely and eating our meals quickly as to not have an insect contaminate it. It was terrible!! My date who happened to be celebrating her birthday loved the ambience but quickly got over it when we had to fight for our food. We would go back but ask for just indoor seating only!!
The service isn’t that great. Food tastes good, and the portions are huge. Their patio is huge and really nice. However, when you walk into the restaurant, there is no one at the door or inside to greet you. You have to walk to the patio to finally find an employee. Kind of a weird experience overall.
Stopped in for a quick beer and snack. Always great service. Beer garden is nice!
My food was pretty good! The margarita pitcher was nice and strong, but tasted a bit like lemon-lime cleaning chemicals rather than fresh margaritas.
The food is average to above average but the lively patio is always a good time and is beautiful on a warm summer night.
One of the best patios to enjoy a margarita in Chicago. It’s too bad they are never staffed appropriately. Sat ten minutes before approaching the host and asking for our server. After he took our order we never saw him again until it was time for the check.
Everything was absolutely wonderful. A great place for an afternoon birthday lunch!
Great back patio to enjoy some Mexican food and margaritas. The margaritas were great and it was a great day on the patio!
Whilst the staff were very nice, the food and drinks were a let down. We were a party of 4, not one of us finished our food due to the bland taste and terrible way it was cooked. The queso was a thick layer of waxy cheese with a ring of oil. It was so hard it broke every chip it was served with. The rest of the food was microwaved, or warm plated to dryness. The passion fruit margarita was best but nothing more than your average premix drink. Nothing authentic or special. Would never go back or recommend.
Worst dining experience I have ever had. I never got to taste the food since it never came but from previous experiences there I know it’s good. It’s a shame because their patio is great but I have never had such a terrible experience. We were there for almost 2 hours before we gave up. And this was after speaking to 3 people about the issues. Not sure if I’m willing to risk going back. The customer service was lacking especially from the manager. If he came over and spoke to us and told us what the issues were, we’re reasonable people, things happen but he ignored us and that’s the fatal mistake. Customer service should always come first, don’t place blame on others and be transparent about the issues.
Took an hour to get our meal.
Terrible terrible service. We waited over an hour for food. Each time we asked for an update from the waiter he was rude and had a major attitude. When we asked to speak to a manager, we were directed to the waiter’s friend, who was not a manager. When our food did come out it was cold and undercooked. We then waited over 30 min for a check to be processed. Don’t be fooled by drink specials and patio space, this place is not worth the time or money
Mediocre, nothing great.
Exceptional service! The food was very good and we will return on future visits to Chicago...
Waiter delivered food then ignored us from then on .
Food was delicious and portions were Huge! We all ended up taking home leftovers that the waiter thought we weren’t happy with our food!
We just ate too much chips with salsa and guacamole before our entrees! Definately plan on going back!!
I've probably driven by this place a million times..never gave it much thought.
My wife and I were looking to meet my folks for dinner and we all enjoy trying new places, so I looked up Las Fuentes and saw the reviews...
Great service - super nice guy, but the food...If it was appropriate to swear here, I would!
The food was Outstanding! The margaritas (Las Fuentes Especial's) - Outstanding!
Will be going back soon and often..would like to try the majority of the menu!
Very happy with the new find!
Hadn't been to Las Fuentes in many years went for birthday lunch - food was really good, service was super (margaritas were amazing), and cute sombrero with tequila shot and song for birthday,Will go back!
There was a chicken bone and a hair in my girlfriend’s entree.
Our dining experience was very good. This was the second time we had been there in as many months and were delighted both times. There were four of us, each ordering a different entree. Everyone loved their dish! (I really don’t understand the negative reviews on Open Table!)
I wish they had beer on tap but their offerings are fine! Definitely will be back, especially in the summer when they will be serving on the outdoor patio.
Fresh, delicious Mexican food served by a friendly, accommodating staff. Generous portions at very reasonable prices. The Al Pastore flautas were flavorful, with tender meat in a crispy she'll. Excellent mole with chicken, which could have been a little more tender. Great tortilla chips, guacamole and salsa. Family friendly. We would definitely return.
