Le Colonial - SF
My fav restaurant in the world 😎👍🦓
Oustanding cocktails, food and service. Wonderful ambiance
Great place great food!
Le Colonial is one of the most exceptional restaurants in San Francisco. Food, ambiance and service are top-notch. You feel physically transported back to another era and time gets to stand still while you enjoy a lovely meal with people you enjoy spending time with! Recommend it highly for a special date-night, time spent with your grown children and anyone who wants a beautiful dining experience in SF.
Food was good. Filet (luc Lac) was ok. Sea Bass was excellent but quantity was minimal. The garlic noodles and fried rice were fantastic and so we're the desserts. Appetizers (crab cakes and pot stickers) were ok. Ambiance and decor are fantastic. The restaurant is however packed and space between seats were too tight especially for the price. The band upstairs had a super fun band. Service was very good. Overall very good but not as good as seven years ago or the Chicago version.
Nice restaurant and food was good. People in there were not loud like so many other restaurants nowadays in SF. Service was a little slow.
Worst Valentines Day dinner ever out of 20 years worth of them. Getting a table, even with a reservation, was akin to getting a seat on the last US plane out of Vietnam when the war was ending. Awful, awful, awful. Ruined our Valentines Day for the low price of $250.
They took too many reservations for Valentine’s Day and made it a horrific experience and ruined what should have need a manically evening.
Valentine Day Massacre- I’ve been an Open Table member for more than 15 years and I’ve never seen such a distaster of a restaurant.
After being there for an hour and a half and still not getting g our entrees we went to another restaurant.
Before we did I shook the sad excuse for a manger named Howard and thanked him for the meal we never had.
The restaurant was packed (it was Valentines Day evening) so the staff was a bit overwhelmed. The wait for our table was a bit longer than I would have liked, but smaller parties were seated quickly. The food was amazing’ I highly recommend this restaurant.
Dishes were mediocre (sea bass and lemon grass chicken). Neither had much flavor. Dishes took an extremely long time to come out. Our waiter did bring us complimentary champagne and a dessert, but in the end the cost for the meal was not worth it.
Went here for Valentine’s Day. Arrived at 7:35pm for a 7:30pm reservation. Was asked to get a drink while we waited for a table. Got a drink, went back downstairs, got seated. Ordered a bottle of champagne and an appetizer.
Appetizer was served within 10 minutes, but then we waited over an HOUR for our entrees. Never once, did the waiter check in with us or explain the delay.
After becoming frustrated, we saw the table next to us also didn’t have their food. Apparently they had a 7:15 reservation.
We looked around and NO ONE had food.
We cancelled our entrees, asked for the check, was comped our appetizer and we left. Got burritos on the way home from “dinner.”
Will never plan a dinner on Valentines again.
Service terrible and food old not what it’s used to be never again
We love this place! Have had several special occasion dinner parties here. Exotic feel, mixed ages and ethnicities...just like SF. The bar upstairs with the ample dance floor and fabulous music cannot be beat in SF.
Dining at Le Colonial is always a treat. The ambience is great, and different from newer restaurants which are all starting to look the same. The old, wooden, colonial "home" in which you are dining is lovely - even as it can bring up thoughts about the negative aspects of, ahem, colonialism. The food is very good. The cocktails are spectacular. Enjoy a lychee martini, served as ice cold as it should be, as you ponder whether to have their specialty sea bass cooked in a banana leaf or something else from the Vietnamese-ey menu with a (colonial) French flair. You are not coming here for a bowl pho (though you can have it as one course) or banh mi, but you will get some classic Vietnamese flavors throughout this menu.
For $150 for an app, 2 entrees, and 2 cocktails, I would have expected the food to impress me more. Our server's attentiveness was hum-ho. The décor is excellent, and the hostess who seated us was friendly, but for the price, maybe not worth the trouble.
We had a wonderful experience and cannot wait to go back!
Server hovered way too much and we felt unnecessarily rushed.
We always come to Le Colonial before going to a play at the Geary Theater. We always share the potstickers for our appetizer. Yum! The food is always delicious and the service is always excellent. The only problem is the lighting. The dining room is rather dark but the woman's bathroom is very dark and thus dangerous. Why does it need to be so dark?
Disappointing. Firstly this Le Colonial can’t hold a candle to Chicago’s Le Colonial. Not even close. It occurs to me that perhaps these are not sister restaurants as I had assumed. That’s my fault. This poor review is largely based on the terrible and incredibly rude waiter. He actually ruined our meal.
Sucks because I had really bragged up the restaurant to my colleagues. And while we were all happy with our food in the experience was pretty awful.
Never skip an opportunity to enjoy Le Colonial, especially the unique SF location. Always a great meal.
We had a very mixed experience. The Coconut Scrimp was excellent, crispy and succulent. The Pork Ribs were also extremely tasty. The salad and chicken broth not so much. It’s a lovely restaurant but not worth the price.
Absolutely amazing night. Nothing could have been better. We appreciated everything they offered.
Visited during Restaurant Week for their 4 course meal. Choices were great, especially since 1 in our party is GF. Cocktails were yummy, and can't think of anything to criticize!
I especially want to compliment our server, Jose. He was very attentive and made sure our experience was the best!
The food was delicious the place just seems like it needs a little bit of a facelift!
We went for our 2020 Dine About Town dinner to Le Colonial. We thoroughly enjoyed our experience. I had Goi Du Du Tom Nuong (Green Papaya Salad), Tom Dua (Coconut Shrimp), Bo Luc Lac (Marinated Filet Mignon Cubes), and Bananamisu (Lady Fingers marinated in chocolate and rum) for dessert. Delicious, beautifully presented. Service was excellent.
Excellent food & service. We enjoyed every dish. Appetizer sampler plate was a good way to start our meal. Everything was delicious & beautifully prepared.
Great food, service, and atmosphere. Good if you have a large group as well.
We waited 45 minutes to be seated in spite of having a reservation at 8:15. Apetizers came right away but we waited a long time to have the main courses, at least 30 minutes.
The main waiter behavior was perfunctory and dry cut
We love Le Colonial. Each time we are in San Francisco we have dinner there. It’s always a treat with unusual dishes!
The host/manager did a great job of seating us together although we made a last minute change to our reservation. We had a phenomenal time and the food was fantastic!
Very creative dishes and great selection for vegetarians as well as those focused on either fish or meat dishes. Wonderful cocktails and an overall great experience. Only issue was we were seated close to the front door and since it was a very busy evening the door was open a lot and it was too cold at our table.
Its a good place. Loved the food and the ambiance. First floor is restaurant, second flor is the bar; setup and ambiance of each floor is very different from each other, therefore I would recommend visiting both floors. There is a parking / valet, therefore don't stress out looking for parking in the area.
A wonderful meal as usual. The service was excellent!
Great food, very nice reminder of how excellent this restaurant is!
My husband and I try to plan a Le Colonial outing when we visit San Francisco. The last couple
of times, we included dear friends, and they loved it!
Food was super bland and disappointing. It was so expensive and not good.
