Verstecktes Restaurant in Seitenstraße, Service geschäftsmäßig neutral, interessantes Ambiente, asiatische Küche, schmackhaft. Wie immer zu große Portionen, damit Vorsicht bei der Auswahl, wenn „doggy bag“ nicht möglich ist. Ein Teil des Trinkgeldes ist schon im Preis inbegriffen!
The food and service were good but they had run out of several items including 2 of the 4 our table ordered. They did their best to make it better by offering a signature dish for a reduced price as an alternative and had given us extra pieces of a starter so everyone in our group would have a full pastry. The downside was there was a very loud, disruptive table nearby.
This little gem is so cute, I love a brunch menu with western and SE Asian options. The rice porridge is exactly the savory warmth I wanted. The space is amazing but I think they are still getting their service legs after The pandemic. The FOH manager was working overtime to make everything great.
The food was great. It is a bit confusing to find the place because it's inside a tiny alley way. There is apparently parking on-site. There was no signage and the parking attendant was this really rude guy who seemed very peeved to be asked any questions. The decor inside is marvelous. It transports you back to the 1930s. Exquisite cuisine, very reasonably priced - by SF standards. It took quite some time for the food to be brought to us but that allowed us to enjoy the ambiance just a tad longer. I would definitely recommend the Flourless Chocolate cake off the dessert menu.
The food here is a treat for the palette in every course. They are still missing some of the pre-pandemic favorites like banana cream pie, but most of the main courses are back (shaking beef being our fav). With Slanted Door permanently closed, this is our go to place for Indonesian cuisine.
Great food, Saul, our server was great but the space could use some updating.
After two years of a self imposed travel moratorium due to COVID-19 we finally returned to the Bay Area. This has always been one of our favorite restaurants. Many things have changed as a result of the pandemic but not Le Colonial, if anything it got better, as impossible as that might seem. Without a doubt the best dining experience we’ve had on our trip to date. We definitely look forward to dining again in the future.
Good food, pleasant staff
Delicious food with a variety of entrees in the a la carte menu. There’s also a prix fix menu. Great for special occasions, but casual enough for anytime dining.
Poor service and food was mediocre at best
Enter San Francisco's most enchanting restaurant, where garden-like charm awaits you. Evocative of 1920's French Vietnam, Le Colonial is the hidden gem!
Gorgeous boozy cocktails for the table which arrived, like us, gorgeous and strong!
* Honey Bear Served in Honey Bee Jar (GET THIS!)
* Mai Monte Tai Served in a GINORMOUS Oyster Shell Mug (GET THIS!)
* Lychee Martini adorned with REAL lychee
We ordered off the incredibly generous Three-Course Family style menu that did NOT disappoint!
Appetizer platter for the Table was more than enough for 4 hungry people!
* Hoisin Glazed Baby Back Pork Ribs with Coleslaw
* Shredded Green Papaya Salad
* Classic Dungeness Imperial Rolls
3 super generous mains for the table
* Lemongrass Chicken surprising was a HUGE portion and so good as the chicken was juicy and tender
* White Prawns Garlic Noodles was the BEST dish hands down
* Vietnamese Curry served in a lidded clay pot came to the table with lots of fanfare
2 generous menu items for the table
* Fried Rice with Bay Shrimp
* Crispy Sweet Chili Glazed Brussels Sprouts was hoovered in no time flat!
Chef's Dessert Platter Course for the Table to Share was so good as we had a huge piece of classic Strawberry cheesecake, and TWO generous pieces of flourless chocolate cake infused with Vietnamese coffee topped with dollops of whipped cream.
We had a gorgeous table on the covered patio in this historical and beautiful restaurant.
For a special event or date night, do yourself a favor and experience smooth service, delicious food and an intimate stunning setting at Le Colonial.
Restaurant needs to upgrade food quality and ambiance. The service and team team very good.
A hidden gem in SF. Romantic room setting and decor. Friendly service and terrific food.
The food was delicious! The crab rolls are a must, full of decadent crab. The mango margarita and the sweet chili Brussels are also amazing.
Service was the best! Everyone was so kind and food was excellent as well!
The food was very disappointing I’ll Beyonce was beautiful as always but the food was mediocre at best very disappointing after all these years
Lovely place, easy access to parking, delicious food, excellent service
Very nice staff. Food was amazing. Would recommend.
Service was slow but after addressing this with manager it was much better. Had to ask several times to have 2 bottles of wine opened. Food was ok, served warm and presented well but all was pretty bland (exception was ribs and Brussels sprouts). I’ve had much better Vietnamese food so the lack of flavors was disappointing.
Usually have a fantastic time here but this last time, the service was well below the usual standards.
The setting makes you feel you're dining in an old Indochine estate and the large portions of delicious Vietnamese food, the attentive service, and fair prices makes this restaurant a must for those who enjoy South East Asian cuisine. Beware the appetizers and side dishes are rather large and should be shared, otherwise you get a lot of food for one person and you surely wouldn't want to spoil your appetite for your main entree.
One drawback is the noise level, but it's not any worse than similar SF restaurants.
Nice decor, wish there were more options on the brunch menu
coming back from Covid - its slow to get the work force back - so I won't say service was slow - service was polite and professional....but yeah... it was slow...but I am not complaining because everyone is having the issue....but what really made it ok........ the food.... absolutely superfragilistic alidocious super !!!... always has been... great place that will see me again and again.- great job !
This is one of our favorite places to dine when we go into San Francisco. It is festive, the ambiance intriguing and delicious food.
The food continues to be fantastic. Beautiful restaurant. This was our first visit after it was closed due to the pandemic and it is still excellent!!! Dining room not yet filled to capacity during a Friday night so support this amazing restaurant and book your reservation!
My favorite restaurant in SF
We had a lovely meal and overall, a delightful evening.
Beautiful spot in SF, my friends and I went for drinks but the food looked and smelled amazing. We got the passion fruit / orange martini and they were a bit on the sweet side but other than that it was a great experience
We were excited to return to one of our favorites-but this time the noodles and shrimp were over-cooked and arrived like warm. I think they forgot our other entree and then had to play catch up. It wasn’t overly busy but it took a long time to get our food-the server even apologized for the wait. The ambiance is wonderful and the crispy crab rolls were delicious. We had a nice time as always, and I will return, but I have to say we were a little disappointed this time.
Great food in a beautiful venue!
It was wonderful to return to Le Colonial after so long. Still a great place to dine.
Loved the outdoor dining set up. It was spacious and warm. We sat outside until the restaurant closed in the evening. And the food quality was just as good as before the pandemic
The food is amazing, and our server was very nice. Two dishes were not hot when served -- the garlic noodles and the crab cakes. I asked the server if he could warm up the other crab cake and he did.
Also, we were behind the reception desk and it was a cold day. The door was open and we were cold during the meal, even though we kept our jackets on. Other than that, everything was fine!
I’ve been here twice now: once for a team dinner with my coworkers and recently with my husband and friend.
The ambience is lovely, we sat outside under the protective awning in the early evening. If it were darker, the lights would create a warm, soft feeling. I’ve sat inside which is decorated in a beautiful, lavish French colonial style which I personally love.
The staff was awesome, responsive, proactively checked in with us and masked.
The food is very good, but it is expensive. Three of us got the crab rolls (B), shaken beef (B), lemongrass chicken (B), sea bass (A+), Brussel sprouts (C, because they were in a very sweet sauce which is not what I like in brussels sprouts), and garlic noodles (A+).
There is a parking lot right next to the restaurant (on the left).
I probably would not go back because not enough of the dishes blew us away and the price indicated otherwise.
Truly authentic Vietnamese restaurant in a beautiful setting. Service was slow as the restaurant very crowded. We have visited Vietnam several times and enjoyed 5 * food, and the food here was as good as any we had in Vietnam! We had the price fixed special meal and each fish was delicious.
It could be that they’re still getting up to speed after the shutdown, but the service was slow and food was disappointing, but the others seemed to like what they ordered.
