We always love eating here. Tonight we were looking forward to their Maine Restaurant Week special and they were out at 7:30. We still enjoyed wonderful good, but I was very disappointed.
We ate there for Maine Restaurant Week but their prix fix menu was only for meat eaters with no alternatives which was disappointing. We ate from the regular menu. It was ok. Seafood Paella was ok. Not fantastic. Music was much too loud.
We went to the themed paired dinner during restaurant week - it was awesome
Excellent meal at Local 188 on Saturday. Fantastic service, yummy food and great wine list. Loved the mushroom mousse dish - so creative, not to mention pretty! Steak was cook perfectly and was great to share after having tried several of the smaller dishes. Will definitely return to this spot in the future!
Ordered the roasted beet risotto, beet were barely cooked, I could barely get my fork through them. The risotto was tough, and the dish was very soupy. Service was mediocre. It took a while to see our waitress and when she was there she lacked energy and friendliness. Restaurant was very quiet, so food did arrive timely.
I only gave three stars because I’ve enjoyed this restaurant so much in the past. I didn’t let the waitress know that my food was poorly done, because she wasn’t back until we had finished eating, and never asked how the food was. I would still recommend this restaurant because I’ve had great meals here in the past.
Love Local, Andy and Bree? Were our servers and they were wonderful!@!!
Great food for the value, many small plate options and great cocktails. It is the perfect choice for foodies looking for casual fine dining.
Nice room. Tapas style. We had: clam stew / just ok, livers/ good, grilled shrimp / excellent, mussels/ outstanding, pork belly / outstanding, arugula & duck egg salad / just ok, banana bread dessert / good. Reasonably priced. Good service.
Always great! Good food and drinks, great service, and they are accommodating of my gluten intolerance.
The food here is very good, with very high-quality ingredients. I do, however, think it's extremely overpriced for what you get. For example, $13 for 2 lamb ravioli. Our waitress was very nice, however, the hostess seemed angry and hardly communicated with us.
Fantastic service. Very solid food. A tiny bit dark at dinner. The bread is amazing.
We as a group were not impressed with our meals. Paella was not traditional and the rice was sticky and the sauce was congealed. The portions were not even amongst similar meals. Overall, was underwhelmed even though they did provide us with a percentage off of our meals. I was really looking forward to trying 188, but was very disappointed.
Busy night out. Kitchen and waitstaff handled very well. Food is delicious, esp clams and mussels
Love it here, very warm and friendly with great food and service.
The waitstaff was friendly, engaging and professionally relaxed but our meals were under spiced. We expected more mouth watering tastes, but what we got were under whelming but palatable dishes. In particular, the liver tapas dish needs a complete reworking...the livers were swimming in a tasteless sea of brown gravy. The expensive 3 deviled egg halves were nothing special at all. Our Spanish style tortilla had not a speck of the advertised spinach in the dish and was filling but bland. The mushroom selection and pork chop were the stars of the evening. Skip dessert altogether.
Consistently good food and service.
Great place to hang and eat. Service is attentive and professional but not overly formal. Excellent range of tapas options as well as salads and main courses. The highlight is the cocktail list: extensive, well-curated and with some truly outstanding drinks. My new love is their spicy Caipirinha--to die for! You can easily make a meal out of the tapas and not break the bank. Funky, cozy vibe with lots of couches around coffee tables and banquettes with piles of pillows.
We love local 188 and brought some of our family there over the holidays. Everything was very good however the seafood paella was over cooked. We were a little disappointed as we heard so many good things about it. A first world problem & we would definitely return.
The food and service was amazing. The menu price was a little high but with the experience and taste of the food it did not feel that way in the end.
Our server was wonderful. She made great recommendations and knew just when to appear and when to disappear. The House paella was delicious and definitely a meal for two not one! Very fresh and definitely worth the wait. Not enough room for dessert, but maybe next time. We will go back!
Our server was great. I’ve forgotten his name, dark haired male
Excellent food and service! As a bonus, we were there on a 50% off wine bottles (some, not all), so enjoyed some nice well priced wine as well.
Local 188 was a great choice for a group of 6 on a Sunday night... family with a desire to catch up over a good supper. I would imagine that the place might be a bit more energetic on Friday or Saturday but it was perfect for us on a Sunday. We'll go back when we're in Portland!
We enjoyed a delicious meal and Anyah was helpful and a delight. She gave us great recommendations on portions sizes, wait time and more. We thoroughly enjoyed our experience.
Disappointing meal. Seafood Paella was pricey , however, at $39.00 I thought it would be amazing. Unfortunately, not so. The rice and seafood were incredibly dry and did not have a lot of flavor. Even with multiple wedges of lemon, it did not improve. My partner had the same response to it. One of the diners at the table stated that the pork chop was tasty, but quite a small portion. Liked the atmosphere, however, the prices do not warrant the servings, and would definitely not recommend the Paella.
We love eating at Local 188. The chicken pinchos are excellent. In fact all dishes we had were terrific. We appreciate your food and service. Thanks
We always love coming in with the whole family and enjoying the menu "family style" with all the tapas and smaller plates. We also enjoy the happy hour before dinner, with great deals on drinks and tapas in a very cool, but also welcoming atmosphere. Can't wait to dine again!
Everything was amazing! Our favorite place in town. Took some friends and we all had a great time. Service was friendly but a little slow. That said it was a busy night. We’ll be back! Great experience!!
The 4 star food rating might be a bit tough but our benchmark was Barcelona fare. The patatas bravas were cut too large for the small plate presentation, and the tomato dipping sauce needed a bit more paprika for a lingering flavor. The shishito peppers (an off-menu offering that night) were perfect after a little salting at the table. The cheese plate was excellent. Their use of local cheeses was the appropriate replacement for the Catalan cheeses typically served in Barcelona (glad they avoided manchego). A bottle of one of their Spanish white wines (Valdeorras) was a great compliment to the meal. If you are in Portland, Local 188 is a must!
Great all round experience. Attentive friendly service delicious food comfortable seating what more can you ask for.
Nice atmosphere, good service, interesting menu. Good drinks, fair prices; but we were 50/50 on food. Tapas were great, but our entrée (seafood paella) was a bit dry and overcooked, with too large a rice to seafood ratio (for an entrée costing $39). I'm guessing it may have to do with what you order, but we were not overwhelmed. Worth a visit, but we won't return for a while.
Delicious food and terrific atmosphere
very good food but too noisy
Nice array of tastings through tapas!
This was our first time dining at Local 188 with friends. I appreciated that they had parking in back and loved the subdued vibe. The menu was small but delicious. My favorite dish was the chicken pinchos. I found that the paella was over salted and over cooked, therefore I wouldn’t bother ordering that again, but we loved everything else we tried. I only wish that they had Bissel Brothers on tap.
Great original selections, including vegan options. Could use some more sherries for a tapas restaurant. Looking forward to a return visit.
The food was great and our waitress Bree was outstanding! We highly recommend this restaurant.
Delicious Food, great drinks and a wonderful staff.
Great find from three thousand miles west. Second time just as good as the first.
