Great service; food. Dealt w a few homeless street people as we ate outside sidewalk side. But that’s somewhat expected in urban area. Overall very good. We love this resturant.
Good food and good service. We sat outside which was very safe but without much ambiance - and a lot of traffic noise. But the restaurant did a nice job and we will definitely return!
This is our fourth visit to Portland. Each and every time we come back to Local 188. It never disappoints.
Our server Kendall was fantastic. Thank you for the only stress free dining out experience we have had in months! Thank you for showing up!
Everything was EXCELLENT! We are visiting from Chicago which is well known for its restaurants, so we were curious as to what a smaller city like Portland has to offer. Local 188 definitely exceeded our expectations. We had the house salad, clams, potato gnocchi, and shrimp pinchos. Between the flavorful meal and the romantic ambience of the restaurant, this will certainly be our first recommendation for friends who visit Portland. Thank you!
Delicious food, great service, cool vibe.
We spend the summers in Portland and love Local 188. The service is great, the staff is super friendly and helpful and the food is wonderful. Also the parking is easy compared to the Old Port.
With the pandemic and beyond personnel are over stretched. But the food was delectable. Very original. Worth it for sure. It is a delightful place. I bought a gift certificate for a friend after enjoying it so much
Very quick drink request for creative cocktails. Varied menu items stressing local ingredients well prepared and presented. Neighborhood ambience totally different from tourist venues.
Had some good cocktails & apps for our anniversary dinner. Server was attentive given how busy it was. We sat outside, so noise was Street noise. The mussels were nicely done. The bread was served with honey butter, which was weird with mussels.
Anyway, I would definitely go back again. The rest of the menu looked really good.
Food at dinner wasn’t great at all. Brunch is much better- solid and very good. Dinner- not impressed. Service was awesome, though.
Nice night outside, enjoyed dinner very much!
We loved Local 188! We vacationed in Portland for a week and came to this cute spot twice and dined in their outdoor patio seating. Their seafood, particularly the mussels, was fresh and delicious, as were our cocktails. A lovely find!
Local 188 never disappoints!
Great food and drinks. Excellent service. Parking around the back makes a huge difference
Outdoor dining was a positive experience. Two fish dishes were very good.- mussels/ swordfish.
All in all a quite good meal. Most interesting, almost every dish had flavors we did not expect - in a good way. I don't need to eat there every day, but I always enjoy it.
We had the best paella in USA. We have been in Spain several times and for us was like eating a paella there, excellent we love it.
Ordered the seafood paella and steak. The steak was perfectly cooked to medium rare and the paella was enough to feed three. The service was attentive. Although we couldn’t get an outside table and was initially seated at an awkward table very close to the entrance, they were more than agreeable for us moving to the corner banquet table.
Beautiful inside, very nice service. Good for apps and drinks
Local 188 continues to be a favorite of my partner and I. We are Portland area residents and always marvel at how lucky we are to live in a place with such a vibrant food scene. On our recent visit, (which admittedly was long overdue from the pandemic hiatus) the tapas and entree dishes we chose were all thoughtful, beautiful, and absolutely delicious. The owner Jay Villani even took time to stop by and ask if we were enjoying our meal. We’re well aware of the ongoing challenges that Portland area restaurants continue to face due to staffing and supply chain issues. Congrats to Jay and team for staying the course and continuing to keep our local food scene top notch. We’ll be back again!
Very nice atmosphere, staff was friendly and helpful.
Lovely venue as usual. Vibrancy as expected for a rainy Thursday night in Portland. Food and service were good.
One of my favorite restaurants. Food was very good, as usual. Lots of noise, sometimes hard to converse. Temperature was pretty cool. Server was a bit pushy.
Great sangria and unique food offerings. A nice place to spend time grazing on the small plate options.
We were looking for a small eclectic spot away from the craziness of the water front and found it at local 188, it was a little noisy but the food and service was great. We shared the seafood pialla, it was more than enough for 2, was seasoned wonderfully and had a generous amount of seafood. We paired it with the red sangria which was great, not too sweet. This is a great date night location.
Seated on time - off main tourist area therefore noise level is significantly less. Paella was delicious.
Lovely waitress and delicious food! Great experience with knowledgeable staff
Great food and service. A shout out to Sage, our fantastic server and Jenny the manager. We are here for the summer and will be back often.
Yummy as always!
This is our 4th time here. I love this place for brunch but was underwhelmed by dinner. I want to support local business so will come back assuming this is a post Covid issue.
Sophisticated food superbly prepared, good wine, pleasant place.
Excellent food and great ambiance. The paella is killer and enough for / people
Food was delicious! Highly recommend the paella.
Love Local 188, but clearly hurting on staffing and service.
My boyfriend and I were craving a cozy date night and Local 188 did not disappoint! We sat on the patio and Bri took care of us, as well as many other members of the staff. Everyone was so friendly and accommodating. We are both gin drinkers and started with the Ruby Honey Jam and the Electric Daisy, made with their house-infused gins, they were perfect. We wanted a little bit of everything, so we ordered the mussels, hummus and flatbread, deviled eggs, and gnocchi. The food was delicious and the portions were perfect to share. We resisted the urge to drink the white wine garlic sauce from the mussels and instead soaked it up with the homemade bread and butter. (You’d want to drink it too, it’s that good!) We were too full to have dessert at the restaurant, but decided to take home a flourless chocolate torte and cheesecake with homemade raspberry compote, don’t judge, we came to eat! The desserts were also fabulous, so needless to say our experience was 10/10 and would highly recommend!
Socially distance tables inside and friendly waiters. The menu is quite small, but the amount served was good. We had a few tapas, which were very nice. We don’t usually get dessert, but we did here, and the tres leches was delicious.
The food was good - I was expecting to have more traditional Spanish options having lived in Spain. I was disappointed to not see gazpacho, croquettas, etc. the menu was small but what we did have was pretty good.
The food and service are alway excellent at local 188.
Food was very good. We could nitpick, I happen to be a professional chef, but it bordered on great. Service was a train wreck. Our server was uninformed about the menu, unhappy about being at work, and unable or unwilling to understand the concept of multiple courses.
