Great food definitely will be back
The food was excellent and the service was great. Everyone was every polite and helpful.
Wait staff hovered near table for 90% of our visit. Some of the food came out warm to cold.
Overall positive experience (Metuchen Inn provided a very nice setting for a get together with friends). That being said, we paid 5-star prices for 4-star service and 3-star food. For that reason I would not return.
Our meals were delicious! We’ve eaten here several times and have never been disappointed. We look forward to our next visit. The staff is friendly and professional. They go out of the way to make you feel appreciated and comfortable.
Web site didn’t reflect menu and current prices We chose the restaurant because of menu and price
When we spoke with the Maitre de he said they would look into it
My dish was too oily everyone else enjoyed their dinner
I always like The Metuchen Inn, but I was slightly disappointed that even though in my original Open Table reservation I had noted that we were celebrating a birthday and in a follow up note through Open Table I said that we were celebrating my mothers 84th birthday, I had to sneak away from the table and ask for a birthday dessert for her. I've never had that happen there before.
But as always the food and service was lovely.
We have eaten there three or more New Year’s Eve. Each year the quality of food and service goes down. It’s not worth the money. We were seated on the second floor and there were only seven couples in that part of the restaurant. The servers need training. The maitre’d did not greet us or ask us how everything was. They skimp on the food. One Brussels Sprout cut in half and about half of an ice cream scoop of potato.
Dinner and appetizer was very good. Pasta course nothing special and a poor salad. Although I made the reservation several weeks in advance we were put into a cold upstairs room with no ambiance. Would have liked to be seated on first floor. When I made the reservation their web site did not indicate a fixed fee new year's eve menu for $85. Our meal and service which was slow stuck upstairs was not worth the high price.
Celebrating the holidays with my sisters! The service was slow and inattentive. Has to ask several times for things like fresh pepper on Caesar Salad, water refill and the bill. Not the end of the world but it’s the little service touches matter.
It was excellent.......Can,t wait to go back. This is our third time dining at the Metuchen Inn.
We went for Christmas Eve dinner. Food and the staff were very good. Will definitely be back.
My whole party enjoyed the dinning experience.
We were celebrating a birthday with cousins we don’t see too often. This is our favorite spot for a special occasion. From the greeting by Jose and George, we are made to feel like valued customers. We had a table between the fireplaces which was perfect. We started with house salads. Two of us chose the halibut..love the celery root purée. The other entrees were salmon and chicken. All portions were generous. A lovely evening.
I presently live in Arizona but visit The Metuchen Inn whenever I in town visiting Family. Great ambience, great food in a quiet atmosphere suitable for talking.
It was our annual holiday dinner with friends, all eight of us. We have done it for years at different restaurants.
The decorations was nice, the waiter was wonderful and we liked the food. However we left with a bad taste in our mouths. Two of us ordered Port instead of dessert. They came with cordial glasses that at most 2 ounces if they were filled to the top but they weren’t.
My friend told the waiter that they seemed small as usually it came three to five ounces as feedbacks, wasn’t expecting anything. The waiter apologized and he he will bring back two glasses to make up. What we were surprised was the waiter came back with a glass and a measuring cup with two ounces water in it and said he was sent back by the waiter to show us that it was two ounces, not 1.5 ounces and now we were totally insulted as we would have been happy that the waiter came back and said that’s the amount they serve.
Before we left, the manager came to ask how we were doing. My friend told him and his response was he will recommend the owner to get proper port glasses!!!!
Food was excellent! Very intimate ambiance, made our occasion extra special!!
Made reservation weeks ago. Table was not set or ready when we arrived. The waiter made a mistake on the order and blamed one of my guests for not ordering it properly when we all heard what was ordered and it was ordered properly. Service was poor asked for grated cheese for pasta never got it. No salt and pepper on the table. Was charged for mistake as well as what was ordered. Would not go back again.
Perfect place to meet friends for dinner.
Food was good. Dining room was very loud. Service good.
It was the best turkey dinner I ever had.
We are going to the Metuchen Inn for Christmas. Love this place.
Let's call this a "special occasion" place. Pricey, to be sure, but we enjoyed the dinners and the service. The quality of the food is high, portions were on the generous side of adequate, and the servers struck the right balance between being attentive but not hovering. The markup on the wine list seems higher than usual, so be prepared for a substantial hit if you like wine. One the other hand, we were there for a nice evening and absolutely had the nice evening that we wanted.
Wonderful dinner for our 25th anniversary! Thank you for treating us to a special meal.
Great service and food. High noise level so don't expect an intimate dinner. It quite downs after 8:30-9:00 when diners start to leave.
My favorite restaurant in the county.
A well appointed dining room, impeccable service, and very good food. I was a tad disappointed in the rack of lamb last saturday. It was not medium/pink and had been cooked after it was cut from the rack. I prefer my lamb medium/pink as ordered and to cook the rack, then cut it. Everything else, ie, the osso bucco was fabulous as was our starter, tuna tar tar. Martini's are perfect as well.
We celebrated our 48th wedding anniversary at the Metuchen Inn. Always enjoyed the food and service provided. The staff is very proffesional.
Our server Patrick was GREAT! Excellent food and service. We went on a Tuesday evening and it was very loud and lively, (could barely hear each other). We'll be back.
Lovely place. My husband and I enjoy going for special occasions.
Nice experience. Wait staff was great. One of the waiters forgot my side order and told me my credit card was denied as a joke. A little strange. Would have given 5 stars if not for him.
We celebrated a lovely birthday luncheon. Our waiter George provided impeccable service (thank you!). Our cocktails were delicious. Short rib ravioli also delish. Having overheard it was my mother's birthday our dessert was served with a candle and a plate decorated with a personal message to her delight. Thank you Metuchen for a very special meal and ambiance. We'll be back!
The Metuchen In has a very warm and welcoming ambiance. The food is always fresh and very well-prepared. The wine list is excellent, and the wait staff is beyond the best! The Metuchen Inn is truly the finest restaurant you will find in New Jersey!
Great meal at Metuchen Inn. Celebrating our daughter’s birthday. Constantine and Victor, as usual, outdo themselves in making everything perfect and everyone welcome.
I've frequented Metuchen Inn quite a few times and it has always been consistently a great place do dine. The service is great food is fantastic and I'll continue to go.
We LOVE Metuchen Inn. Food & service are always top-notch. Two things management should consider:
1) we were surprised to see a diner in T-shirt and baseball cap. 2) Acoustics are not great- it gets very noisy.
This is my favorite place in Metuchen and the surrounding towns. It has everything going for it: food, service, friendly owners who are always there, Raina - the best bartender, George and Anom - perfect waitstaff, just everything about this homey restaurant is wonderful. I've been going here for years and will continue for a lot longer.
Very nice place and good service and food. Portions were a little small and pricey. But definitely a good place for client meetings when in the area.
This was my second visit within 7 days. The first time was for lunch and I had scallops which was delicious. I also visited several days later and had dinner. I had scallops for dinner, but this time it was paired with smashed sweet potatoes. I didn't like the pairing of sweet potatoes and the scallops.
As for the restaurant, I love the ambiance and it reminds me of a restaurant my husband and I dined at in Rhode Island.
Overall, I will definitely eat there again... something about it feels different!
Very nice dinner and good waiter . George was efficient and there when needed. Overall very nice restaurant with good food and quaint.
