I love Mokomandy and the food did not disappoint. Though the servers were friendly they may have been overbooked which left us often not getting our orders in a timely manner. (It took over 20 minutes for 2 people at our table to get their drinks and then they brought out the wrong drinks). The food was not all brought out at the same time which meant some of us were nearly finished by the time others got their meals. I’m not holding the bad service against them overall but I do wonder how they might have handled things differently. (At least they took one of the drinks off the check.)
An absolute gem and an unexpected delight in its fusion of Korean & Cajun flavors, which on paper didn't sound particularly compatible - happy to be proven wrong! Things were a little busy, but we ordered several sets of small plates and three cocktails (great bar), and the hits kept coming - the deviled eggs were perhaps the best I've ever had, the sliders are amazing, and the beignets are a must. Like Ciao Osteria in Centreville, this is the type of restaurant the defies any expectations that might come from being in a strip mall, and is worth traveling out to even if you're in DC. Can't wait to go back!
Not sure how this place got ranked #1 in NoVa. Food was just ok. The only thing Korean about this place is the sauce that they put on everything. The bartender kept smoking the place out by burning rosemary at the bar for a very unimpressive cocktail. While we appreciate the waitresses enthusiasm of wanting to give us free drinks, we had to wait a while for the ones we did order. It says a lot about the bar staff, when you are working a tiny bar and the restaurant is not real busy, and you are in the weeds already.
I recommended to my son who went the next night and said it was one of the best eating experiences he had had in 20 years. The deviled eggs and mixed fries were to die for. Service was excellent. My wife and I like to sit side by side and they accommodated us cheerily at a table for 4 so we could even though it meant they had to rearrange other ares. We will be back. BTW, my son thought the sliders were killer good.
Mokomandy has some nice Creole and Korean dishes. The cocktail menu is extensive and creative. The restaurant is nice and open. I would definitely recommend it for folks to try out at least once.
Two years passed since we've discovered this restaurant, during which we visited few more times and unfortunately each of those times was getting more and more disappointing. The menu was changing and our favorite choices were gone, the quality and the quantity of the food was changing not for the better, the service and value were changing too, so this visit was the last drop in the bucket. Besides poorly prepared and long waited to arrive food, they served my locking any hint of alcohol drink in a dirty sticky from the spill glass not even bothering to wipe the spill.
So no more Mokomandy for us.
Outstanding food in a cool little attractive spot. Nice specialty cocktails as well
Delicious food , amazing cocktail with outstanding service
The staff is very accommodating and the food is awesome. We love this place and will continue to visit.
Great fusion food very well done . A great pleasant evening with the family and a lovely. Atmosphere
The food and service was fantastic. We will definitely be back again.
The food was amazing. This was our second visit and it didn’t disappoint. The service was pretty good as well if you’re coming on a weekend for dinner reservations are a must. So glad we came my husband was still raving about the meal the next day.
The food was excellent and I was pleasantly surprised that I felt full after only a dish and a half. The portions are not large, but they are still substantial. Would highly recommend the pork belly and octopus.
The food is amazingly good! It's a small restaurant, so strongly recommend reservations. I had one of their unique cocktails, recommended by our server, and it was fabulous.
We ordered several of the small plates - and everything was top notch! Complex but delicious flavor profiles presented appealingly.
Delightfully surprised! We ordered the Jambalaya, Poutine and the Korean Sliders. Each dish was unique, well seasoned and spiced and so enjoyable. We plan to return soon to try other menu items although my BF said he found his signature dish on the first try. It's no wonder the restaurant is rated #1 among NOVA Restaurants!
Another delicious meal at our local favorite. The wait staff was amazing, Jess’s beet drink was delicious, and the food was stellar as always.
Always a home run! Food, staff and ambience! Love Laura!
This was probably our 6th visit to MokoMandy's. We have never been disappointed.
Absolutely delicious! We've been planning to come here for years because we live in the neighborhood, but for some silly reason just never did. What a mistake!! We'll be coming back on a regular basis and plan to be on a first-name basis with the staff in no time!!
The service is what made it a disappointment. It was completely empty and they would get annoyed if we asked to be seated where we wanted to be seated :( or if we asked them any questions in regards to the menu.
I was so uncomfortable there I couldn’t wait to eat and get the hell out of there.
Amazing food, full stop. The atmosphere is upscale but not pretentious, and while the meal was a little on the expensive side it was completely worth it - good quality ingredients and food that brought all conversation to an end at the table while we simply savored what we ordered. Servers were friendly, quick with recommendations when asked, and made sure our dining experience was great. A real treat, and one I look forward to trying again!
Awesome experience and service!
The small plates were good, the wild boar bowl was a bit salty. But overall service was good and food was fairly good.
Had a great meal.
Great food. A bit pricey, but good for some of the ingredients used, like fois gras dumplings. Cocktails were amazing!
A Mokomandy experience is such an opportunity. The staff are so upbeat, positive, and work as a happy team. We custom ordered a lot of good because I’m beyond picky and everything was phenomenal and the staff explained options. LOVE the opportunity to go to Mokomandy!
It is our favorite neighborhood restaurant. Consistently excellent. It’s only drawback is it is extremely noisy. Ask to sit against the walls or window. Less noisy there. Active bar and you can eat there. Overall really good.
My fiancé took me to Momokandy for our first real date so I took him back there and the experience was great once again! The food is delicious, tasty and different. The cocktails were as well delicious. I would recommend!
Really great combination of flavors. It is not as much fusion as it is a pairing of Cajun and Korean flavors. Overall a really fun restaurant that is a complete break from the norm!
Amazing experience .. the great food made even better by the awesome staff
Excellent brunch dat for my wife’s birthday. 3 of us had different meals. Tasted all and there were Fantastic!
Food definitely lived up to the hype - excellent! Been excited to try the place, went with a party of 6 and had lots of fun. Our server Laura made all of the right recommendations -- lettuce cups, dumplings, chap che, sliders, jambalya were all awesome . . . deviled eggs were incredible (as crazy as that sounds!).
Only issue was really bad bartending. Took our friends literally 40 minutes to get a drink after they arrived. Deliberately got there early to spend time at the bar and it was a waste. Asked at one point and the bartender told us "sorry, I'm trying to make drinks for the whole place!" It wasn't even that busy at the bar, plus that's not our problem -- clearly she was way overwhelmed.
Cramped dining area. We were seated directly behind the front door which was not ideal. It was a bit loud but we did not mind it. The entrance is small and it gets very congested and chaotic! The service staff was friendly and seemed well informed on the dishes. The desserts were lacking as they were out of a few of the choices, odd for a Saturday early in the evening and the remaining options were so-so. Overall not bad!
As a veteran of 30 yrs. in food our recent visit to Mokomandy left something to be desired. Sat at our table at 6:45, bus boy filled our water. Expected a waiter to acknowledge our presence shortly thereafter as the restaurant was not excessively busy. we were now approaching 7pm, water glasses filled a second time and still no hint of service. A women obviously not a waitress but helping to serve food to some tables, was notified of our problem. She would take care of it. Under the circumstances attention should have been immediate but we waited another few minutes. Not to mention a cocktail when ordered was wrong, but we can forgive that. Regardless of how busy restaurant the wait staff should acknowledge a table under their responsibility. Regardless we left a 20% tip knowing well, how hard people in this industry work. A little word to the staff a simple acknowledgment is all that required to keep a diner content.
Great place and table for 2 is small but love the restaurant
Awesome food and great cocktails. Service was excellent as well. Will go back soon.
I always enjoy Mokomandy and the food never disappoints. Love the bone marrow and the Bulgogi. Normally I get the wild boar bowl but I was there for lunch.
Maybe it’s not the best option for date night.
It’s difficult to hold a conversation with the noise level. Even out waitress had to kneel down to answer questions we had and take our order.
Food and presentation were amazing.
Consistently delicious cuisine & superb service.
Mokomandy was suggested to me by OpenTable and I was intrigued by the Korean Cajun menu. Unfortunately they were out of most of the Cajun items and the foie gras dumplings everyone raves about, so we had a mostly Korean meal. All of the dishes were excellent though and full of flavor. The cocktails were very good too. I will definitely return to try more of the menu.
