This place has impressed us every time! The sushi is incredibly fresh and all the food is bomb.
Really, really bad
Top 3 sushi restaurants in SF. Highly recommend for anyone wanting high quality sashimi at a reasonable price.
Family friendly and comfortable
Great outdoor dining experience. Have a wonderful parklet with 2 heaters that makes for a warm dining experience during cold months.
The best. Will be returning
The host with the glasses and the baseball hat was rude to my two brothers and girlfriend. We found this sushi place off this app, it looked good so we tried it out. When we got there, it was a good vibe everyone seemed happy. The host had his mask dangling from his ear talking to some of the customers. As customers left he would happily say goodbye. When it came to our turn, we took our masks off because once you are seated at a table that is what you usually do. Instead of just saying, “hey you need to keep your mask on until the water comes or something, he rudely said “ mask on”. Like dude you just had yours off, and everyone here has there’s off. We then put it on and waited for the waitress. She was a good waitress. Once we were finished, we payed and left. He then rudely assumed that we had not left a tip, because we left it cash instead of on the card. He then proceeded to in a way rudely say “ no tip”. If he had just asked the waiter that had picked it up, there would have not been this misunderstanding. Overall the food was al right, we have had better sushi in the area. I think that he assumed we had not left a tip, because we were young.
Had made reservations but arrived 30 minutes early. They verified my name and were able to accommodate our family to a table they had open! Food was amazingly delicious! Definitely has made it to the top of one of my favorite restaurants in San Francisco.
Excellent sushi seasoned owner. Clean sanitized space. Attractive all wood deck.
Great!!! I think they just need a bit of time adjusting service to their increased amount of seating (due to outside space during COVID). But loved the food and great value! I will return again
Loved it here! Great food, atmosphere, and they are really attentive:$
THIS IS THE BEST RESTAURANT IN HAYES VALLEY!!!
Really excited to come back here now that they have outdoor seating. The only thing that was uncomfortable is that they maximize the seating area so we were basically sitting with the people next to us. I think they should add dividers between tables
Its a lovely, small restaurant in the heart of Hayes Valley. Finally reopened after months of the pandemic. It has a lovely outside dinning area with heaters and sufficient spacing between tables. The inside has high ceilings, ventilation and a seating capacity reduced by 75% from pre pandemic capacity. The food is delicate, fresh and original in it preparation and recipes. The wait staff was so gracious, so happy to be back serving and hopeful that the worst is behind us, for all of us. I was so thankful that they were there. I urge everyone who reads this to patronize them.
Decent, good service, good location, sushi was so so.
Loved the ambience in this small restaurant. Excellent sushi and sake. Very very fresh with just the right amount of rice under the fish. We had a cozy table and enjoyed talking and relaxing here.
Always a pleasure at Otoro with many changing "specials." Fish is usually pretty fresh.
Absurdly loud inside, Be prepared to shout at the person next to you. Very long wait times and a rude host.
Always warm and welcoming, good food, considerate service. We always stop in here when at SF Jazz and always have a lovely, satisfying meal. We especially appreciate that the owner/host is always on the job making sure everything is just right.
Great sushi and cool location. Would def recommend their sushi chef selections and even their vegetarian options.
A True Neighborhood Gem! Ingredients are super fresh and waiters are warm and friendly. Sushi is so well made and perhaps among the best I've tasted in San Francisco. We'll definitely come back!
Great place. Unassuming from the outside. Close walk to the Orpheum and fresh food and quick service. Enjoyed the lollipops and sushi.
Very expensive for the overall experience. There are so many sushi restaurants in SF that I can get better sushi for half the price. And the waitresses weren’t very friendly. But the sushi chefs were great. If you go sit at the bar.
This is a great restaurant for pre and post theater/symphony/ballet. Make sure you get a reservation. It's relatively small in the number of tables. The food is delish and the service is wonderful.
The restaurant is small and very simple. Our service was excellent and prompt, especially as we were going to a concert after dinner. My sushi was among the best I have had, ample ahi tuna and avocado with a nice thin layer of rice. The rest of the food was also very tasty, the eggplant salad a perfect appetizer dish. We would go back any time.
Delicious! Fresh fish, good selection. Portions were smaller than I remembered.
Such a little gem is this neighborhood! Both quality of food and service is great!! We had udon, chicken Karaage, few Otoro nigiris, lollipop roll, unagi and spider rolls, tempura and onkimo. The Otoro nigiri and seared salmon Otoro nigiris were really fresh, they melt in your mouth. The tempura batter was light and hot. It didn’t seem weighed down with grease at all. Even the hot sake was good. It is a little pricier than other Japanese places but I think the service makes up for it. We went on a Thursday night and it was full although it probably holds no more than 40 people. Walk-ins sat at the sushi bar. I would definitely come back if I wanted to splurge.
Otoro is excellent for a date night or small group (4-6), especially before a show nearby. We enjoyed all the food we ordered, especially that day's specialty rolls with fresh tuna. Service was friendly and attentive. Will definitely be back!
Great sushi. Nice experience. A little loud, but a lovely sushi place.
My wife and I dined there prior to going to the theater. We were impressed! The menu was extensive, service attentive, and the quality was impressive. We look forward to our next visit and the chance to explore the menu further.
Very good food but not sure worth the price. And it can be VERY loud when crowded. But the food is really good and the servers and host are very friendly.
Delicious! Be sure to try the specials such as smoked salmon and lollipop rolls!
Great if you are going to the Davies and need a quick bite. 10 minute walks
Waited 20 minutes despite having a reservation but the food was very good.
Great sushi. We has the toro sampler and it was good. Uni was alright but unagi was fantastic. Enjoyed a few rolls that we tasty. Overall great sushi.
We had a hot eggplant appetizer which was very good plus a tuna roll. For dinner I had tempura soba noodle soup. My husband had chicken soba noodle soup. Both were very good and the soup came out nice and hot.
Three out of 4 liked it. It was much too expensive, but the food was good. It was not authentic Japanese, which is why the 4th person didn't like it.
Always creative, always excellent
Very good food and great service. I would go back again.
We let the waitress know that we had opera tickets and needed to leave by 7pm. She never returned once to ask if we needed anything during the meal and forgot about our timeframe, which we reminded her about twice during meal. Disappointing lack of service.
