Absolutely delicious meal! The red chowder is great as are all the pastas. The ahi with mushroom gravy was delicious! I’m hoping they’ll bring back the crab quesadilla because it is one of our favorites. The panna cotta is the best I’ve ever had. The service is great and every one is extremely nice. This is one of our favorite places to eat.

Reliably good food and service
Having rediscovered this well-known establishment only recently, we have been very pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food - definitely 'fit for a foodie'. My yellow-fin tuna, cooked rare in a peppercorn breading, a special, was superb. So were the vegetables that are ordinarily forgotten as a minor accompaniment - not so here.

One order of lamb chops was badly charred. Interior was fine, but one had to get through the ashes!
Food was excellent. as usual. However, out wait person apparently had too many tables to serve. After entree was delivered, she disappeared. Finally reappeared in time to give us our check.
Always a pleasure and a great Meal. Bill really knows how to run a restaurant! Even the busboys are a pleasure. Nice to see the portions have increased.

Bill has pulled together an excellent team that executes flawlessly day in and day out. The daily specials, fish dishes and desserts are excellent. Sometimes I will eat dinner at the Parkside Grille and head elsewhere for dessert. That's a mistake, I moan about afterwards. Yes, it is fun to walk into a new establishment at 8:30 or 9:00 bright eyed and bushy tailed, but repeatedly I've been grossly disappointed. They try so hard, working on their presentation, delivering excellent service with long winded explanations of the origin of the dessert item of my choice. They just don't deliver the final product the way the Parkside does. I rank the Parkside as best in class, consistent, excellent service and wonderful fresh ingredients.

We had a very nice lunch here in a relaxed and quiet atmosphere, excellent service, and of course, delicious food. It's so nice to dine in the redwoods without the "energetic" crowd that is usually found in downtown restaurants.
After not visiting this restaurant for a few years because of a lack luster past experience, we decided to give it another chance. We ordered 2 entrees from the specials menu. Prime grade filet mignon, with the second entree being scallops and prawns. Both were disappointing. The prime filet was clearly not prime grade beef. I was a butcher in my college years and know all the grades and cuts of meat very well. This was not tender, let alone flavorful as a prime cut should be. It's so easy to substitute a lower quality cut of meat for a higher one without going noticed most of the time. When the price is almost $50 for such an item I expected more. Not the case here. Then there was the presentation, sad to say it was very disappointing. My 8 year old even noticed. The other main dish, scallops and prawns were equally disappointing.Equally overpriced for the delivery of small tasteless scallops and prawns, very poorly presented. I have no problem paying higher prices for a quality product but this restaurant was not worth it, or another visit. The Cesar's salad we ordered arrived late, not as troubling as was the elementary school presentation on typical round white basic china. The salad flavors we good but again overall not worth it for the price and the location here. It's so easy to create an enjoyable experience with good food. Clearly these folks don't have their heart in it, nor do they care and the food is proof.

We have been going to Parkside for years. It's a local community restaurant with great food, really friendly staff, great bar.... Show up a couple of times and you are like family. In beautiful Portola Valley. Great outdoor seating in the trees when the weather is warm enough.
As usual, the food was excellent - all of the appetizers, mains, and dessert. One thing I'm very pleased about is that the entrees were nice and hot when we got them. They were out of the wine we wanted, but offered us a slightly more expensive wine at the same cost - so that was definitely fair. We usually go on a week night, but this time went on Saturday night.
My only complaint is that it was *really* loud, and hard to manage conversation ... even though there were only 3 of us. (I wish Open Table would have a "too loud" option instead of "energetic" !!!!!)
We've lived in the area for years, and in the past have enjoyed Parkside Grille. This time, though, it was really disappointing. On my Open Table reservation I stated that our reservation was for a birthday, and that we wanted our dessert brought with a candle. It wasn't. The waiter obviously knew nothing about it. The waiter was extremely pushy---almost agitated---and really rushed us. This was especially annoying (and embarrassing, given that we were sharing with friends) given that the prices are really high for what you get. The restaurant was vey noisy, although for a Saturday night this was to be expected.
It’s a nice ambiance, and the food is good ... but there is an *extremely* limited number of vegetarian options for such a fairly extensive menu

Parkside Grille is the BEST. We arrived on Saturday night not knowing if there would be power, and they were serving as usual. Bill had a generator on-site ready to kick in when the power was cut. It went out at 8:00 pm. We finished our meal outside, comfortable. All of the diners stayed in good humor. PS> the lamb chops were delicious!

We were here for the 1st time and had Linguini & clams and a Caesar salad with crab. Hoss was our waiter & Barbara at the front desk were very nice.
We love coming to this restaurant. But, there are times when the food is not as good as it could be. Such was the case at lunch the other day. There was just too much butter and cheese in both of our dishes. I do find the chef heavy handed at times. It would be nice if they could lighten up the menu a bit.
So lovely to sit outside and be waited upon so kindly. The seafood chowder is to die for, and the risotto was good . The waiter was very attentive and did not forget us even though we were the only ones sitting outside. I love this place!!
Wonderful staff, wonderful food. This is the rare place that provides a high class atmosphere that accommodates the usual special occasions including families.
It's always noisy here. We chose to sit in the back booth, but that's across from the kitchen doors.
I had poached salmon. It didn't seem fresh....not flakey as fresh salmon would be, and very little taste.
My companion had very nice looking lamb chops: 3 doubles, so a whole rack. They looked excellent and he enjoyed them very much. NZ wine was fine. No dessert. We were late diners but were glad the Grille
was still open. Reservation was honored well.
We had a very pleasant dining experience on a relatively quiet Tuesday evening. We ordered brussel sprouts as an appetizer and split them 5 ways. They were nicely seasoned and very tender. Everyone ordered the calamari with asparagus and mashed potatoes. Some of us removed the crust, if only to save calories. I would have given a 5-star rating except considering that it wasn't terribly busy, it seemed to take longer than expected to receive our salad and dinners. Other than that, everything was quite satisfactory and we'll definitely return. Would definitely recommend.

Bill the owner runs a top restaurant amidst redwood trees in lovely Portola Valley. The menu is varied with fresh daily specials. Food and ambiance is awesome! Been coming here for 20 years!
