Alfredo is an excellent waiter!!! He made our evening special!
Nothing fancy but nice ambiance. Good cocktails. Beautiful location.
Excellent overall as usual
Our favorite friends, a table in its own room with a beautiful fire place, and wonderful food combined with excellent service, made it a perfect night.
Very positive experience. Food was well prepared and well served. Service was excellent.
We had a very nice lunch here in a relaxed and quiet atmosphere, excellent service, and of course, delicious food. It's so nice to dine in the redwoods without the "energetic" crowd that is usually found in downtown restaurants.
After not visiting this restaurant for a few years because of a lack luster past experience, we decided to give it another chance. We ordered 2 entrees from the specials menu. Prime grade filet mignon, with the second entree being scallops and prawns. Both were disappointing. The prime filet was clearly not prime grade beef. I was a butcher in my college years and know all the grades and cuts of meat very well. This was not tender, let alone flavorful as a prime cut should be. It's so easy to substitute a lower quality cut of meat for a higher one without going noticed most of the time. When the price is almost $50 for such an item I expected more. Not the case here. Then there was the presentation, sad to say it was very disappointing. My 8 year old even noticed. The other main dish, scallops and prawns were equally disappointing.Equally overpriced for the delivery of small tasteless scallops and prawns, very poorly presented. I have no problem paying higher prices for a quality product but this restaurant was not worth it, or another visit. The Cesar's salad we ordered arrived late, not as troubling as was the elementary school presentation on typical round white basic china. The salad flavors we good but again overall not worth it for the price and the location here. It's so easy to create an enjoyable experience with good food. Clearly these folks don't have their heart in it, nor do they care and the food is proof.
Love this place! Always enjoyable and food is delicious.
We have been going to Parkside for years. It's a local community restaurant with great food, really friendly staff, great bar.... Show up a couple of times and you are like family. In beautiful Portola Valley. Great outdoor seating in the trees when the weather is warm enough.
As usual, the food was excellent - all of the appetizers, mains, and dessert. One thing I'm very pleased about is that the entrees were nice and hot when we got them. They were out of the wine we wanted, but offered us a slightly more expensive wine at the same cost - so that was definitely fair. We usually go on a week night, but this time went on Saturday night.
My only complaint is that it was *really* loud, and hard to manage conversation ... even though there were only 3 of us. (I wish Open Table would have a "too loud" option instead of "energetic" !!!!!)
We've lived in the area for years, and in the past have enjoyed Parkside Grille. This time, though, it was really disappointing. On my Open Table reservation I stated that our reservation was for a birthday, and that we wanted our dessert brought with a candle. It wasn't. The waiter obviously knew nothing about it. The waiter was extremely pushy---almost agitated---and really rushed us. This was especially annoying (and embarrassing, given that we were sharing with friends) given that the prices are really high for what you get. The restaurant was vey noisy, although for a Saturday night this was to be expected.
It’s a nice ambiance, and the food is good ... but there is an *extremely* limited number of vegetarian options for such a fairly extensive menu
Thank you for dining at Parkside Grille and we value your comments. We welcome you to check our menu where we offer 16 vegetarian options. In addition, many of our dishes can be modified to a vegetarian version, upon request. We hope to see you, in the near future, where we can help you with your vegetarian selections. Kind regards, Hope P. (Owner)
This is a favorite spot! Thank you Nancy for your excellent service!
Thank you for your review! Your comment is much appreciated and we value your continued patronage!
Wonderful ambiance, food and location. Perfect for a relaxing restbit!
Good food, great service in a beautiful location in the redwoods. What more could anyone ask for?
Parkside Grille is the BEST. We arrived on Saturday night not knowing if there would be power, and they were serving as usual. Bill had a generator on-site ready to kick in when the power was cut. It went out at 8:00 pm. We finished our meal outside, comfortable. All of the diners stayed in good humor. PS> the lamb chops were delicious!
Thank you for your comments! Everyone, at Parkside Grille, works to make our guest’s experience memorable and we were, definitely, tested during the blackouts. I’m glad you were able to take advantage of finishing your meal on our patio, that evening, among the redwoods. It’s Parkside friends like you who motivate us to go the extra mile. Thank you! Hope P.
We were here for the 1st time and had Linguini & clams and a Caesar salad with crab. Hoss was our waiter & Barbara at the front desk were very nice.
We love coming to this restaurant. But, there are times when the food is not as good as it could be. Such was the case at lunch the other day. There was just too much butter and cheese in both of our dishes. I do find the chef heavy handed at times. It would be nice if they could lighten up the menu a bit.
So lovely to sit outside and be waited upon so kindly. The seafood chowder is to die for, and the risotto was good . The waiter was very attentive and did not forget us even though we were the only ones sitting outside. I love this place!!
Wonderful staff, wonderful food. This is the rare place that provides a high class atmosphere that accommodates the usual special occasions including families.
It's always noisy here. We chose to sit in the back booth, but that's across from the kitchen doors.
I had poached salmon. It didn't seem fresh....not flakey as fresh salmon would be, and very little taste.
My companion had very nice looking lamb chops: 3 doubles, so a whole rack. They looked excellent and he enjoyed them very much. NZ wine was fine. No dessert. We were late diners but were glad the Grille
was still open. Reservation was honored well.
We had a very pleasant dining experience on a relatively quiet Tuesday evening. We ordered brussel sprouts as an appetizer and split them 5 ways. They were nicely seasoned and very tender. Everyone ordered the calamari with asparagus and mashed potatoes. Some of us removed the crust, if only to save calories. I would have given a 5-star rating except considering that it wasn't terribly busy, it seemed to take longer than expected to receive our salad and dinners. Other than that, everything was quite satisfactory and we'll definitely return. Would definitely recommend.
Our go to place.Great for special occasions or just a casual dinner with friends.Good food and good service.
Bill the owner runs a top restaurant amidst redwood trees in lovely Portola Valley. The menu is varied with fresh daily specials. Food and ambiance is awesome! Been coming here for 20 years!
Great spot in Portola Valley. Sit outside--it's beautiful under the redwoods
We sat near the open kitchen way to noisy.
Next time we will ask for the room on the other side of Bar.
To celebrate our 54th wedding anniversary we were looking for a restaurant that provided good food in an intimate setting. Parkside Grille delivered both of these and a great deal more. Arriving early, we explained to the hostess what we were celebrating and the kind of atmosphere we were hoping to find. She guided us to a lovely outside table that offered both privacy and a beautiful view of the hills to the west.
And while both the food and the wine were excellent, what we will remember most was the quality of the service. Our waiter was warm and attentive with just the right touch of humor. He never hovered but always seemed to be there at exactly the right moment. Simply put, he was the consummate professional.
We were so pleased with the entire experience that at the end of the meeting we went inside to let the hostess know just how thoroughly we had enjoyed the evening. And while I do not recall having told her how long we had been married, she certainly did.
“I’m glad you had a great time,” she said. “Please come back and celebrate your 55th with us.”
Indeed we will.
The halibut was fresh and perfectly cooked. The NY steak was tender and tasty. The service was attentive.
Lovely experience dining, service, ambiance.
Food specials and menu well-described, prepared, and presented. Looking forward to returning soon again. Good value all around.
Beautiful location and worth the drive. Excellent place for clients, good service and food while quiet enough to have a conversation. Highly recommend it!
Oh the usual Tuesday Parkside goodness. Nice to see Jazmin and Nick and Hope again. The impossible burger without the bun was super!
Lovely setting for an intimate dinner with friends.
Wonderful as always. Good food, great choices and nice people!
Host told our friends that we hadn’t arrived yet even though we had signed in and were already seated — so they waited outside for 10 minutes until they happened to look for us. Server was inattentive and service was slow. Very noisy as well — not a good experience.
Ate outside under the redwoods. Some street noise but a nice setting. Alfredo, our server, was very nice and attentive. We had the White Prawns and risotto, Parkside Pizza and Asian Chicken salad bowl;all very good. Hot brownie with vanilla ice cream was very good..
Love the food and even got special treatment by the bartender. (She gave us a personal visit at our table to find out how to make a drink that I love). Special treat. Thanks so much
Parkside Grill is my go-to place when I want a little bit of an up-scale lunch where quiet conversation is possible. The service is friendly and unobtrusive, the daily specials always offer something a bit unusual, and the setting, either sitting outside in a small redwood grove or inside in comfortable booths, is comfortable with a touch of elegance.
Had a very nice date night meal. Sitting outside reminded us of European travel.
Nice place, generally good food. A little overpriced for what it is. Also, a $3 charge to split a salad (and we didn't ask for the split either), which seems petty.
The interior is nice. The staff is friendly. But ...
We came in at 6, were immediately seated, a waiter took our drink order and then took drink orders from an adjacent table of 12. He entered their 12 orders first into the restaurant's computer, served them first (even thought we arrived earlier), and a half hour later we were served our glasses of wine.
The restaurant needs to be more streamlined, in terms of service, especially since other wait staff were standing around doing nothing, just waiting for their tables to fill up.
I ordered a quesadilla, since I wasn't too hungry. It was a thick, floury quesadilla, filled with chicken and some kind of cheese that didn't really melt. Until I added the salsa and guacamole on top, it had been tasteless.
My husband had short ribs -- okay, pleasantly soft, but had no oomph. In other words, bland.
Not a real "go-to" place.
