Pelago has been our "go to" place for special occasion splurges, and we've generally been pleased. Tonight (9/14( was a great disappointment. Service was abysmal, perhaps due to understaffing. We had to flag down a busser to ask for menus, then flag him again for bread (40 minutes after arrival) which turned out to be cold, stale and dry. First course (octopus) was room temperature rather than hot. Main course (veal chop) was good. Service, when it occurred, was abrupt--"slam bam"--and impersonal. Servers and managers were arguing loudly with each other nearby. Noise was extreme--maybe out of the restaurant's control but very unpleasant and unusual for this restaurant. Overall the experience wasn't worth half the price. We won't be back for dinner for a long time, but maybe for lunch when very few diners are present.
It is one of the most amazing restaurants I've visited. I don't live in or near the Chicago area. However, whenever I'm here on business I make it a point to go there. Everyone is very friendly, the service is great, and the food and wine is what keeps me coming back. Anytime anyone that I know that's traveling to Chicago I highly recommend they dine at Pelago.
Food was delicious. Service impeccable. One of the best meals I’ve had in Chicago
Great place to have an upscale early or late dinner with friends or alone.
Unreal food. Our server Franco did a marvelous job. The two pasta tasting dishes where we were able to try an assortment of pastas was truly amazing bc it was so hard to decide
Amazing food and exceptional service in an elegant setting
Excellent experience. Highly recommend.
Wonderful food, friendly but elegant service. A bit warm in the are where we were sitting, but other than that a fabulous meal!
The food is great but very expensive. The space is beautiful but so tight as to be claustrophobic. I sat with the table pushed uncomfortably close and couldn’t leave my seat unless all three of my companions stood up, moved the table, and moved away so I could slide out of the corner space. I expect a bit more comfort for a $200-per-person meal.
Quite possibly my favorite Chicago restaurant. Exquisite yet approachable, delicious and fresh, authentic and beautiful food. Fine, attentive service without being stuffy. Great ambiance.....closest thing to being in Italy. Love it so much!
Pelago is a rare oasis of outstanding, creative, fresh Italian cuisine in the Gold Coast area of Chicago. We overdid it — ordering the tasting menu with a course of four delicious risottos, a course of four pastas, a whole sea bream and a huge veal chop —outstanding! The wine recommended was a perfect accompaniment. The dining room is quiet, cool and elegant. The service is impeccable. A special evening and a dinner to remember!
Amazing! Thank you for a lovely evening. The pasta is the best in the city.
The food was not that good, it was just ok for the very exuberant price. I come from a family of chefs born in Italy. There are much better Italian restaurant in the city & better pricing. Portions are very small. Atmosphere is excellent and so is the service.
Very pricey for what we got. $160 per person for mediocrity
Best kept secret in Chicago
First time at Pelago and had a lovely evening, outdoor seating, impeccable service and delicious food. My friend had fettuccine with black truffle butter and raved about it. I had the ricotta pasta with peas and a light butter sauce. Ate every bite. Excellent wine list. Will definitely return.
Great -classic white table -top Italian restaurant
Fantastic service and food.
Pelago restaurant because of the talented chef is the best Italian place in Chicago, highly recommended if you wish to eat authentic superb Italian dishes.... High quality ingredients and presentation and atmosphere are all excellent reasons to keep going back and dine at this incredible ristorante!
My food was salty. I was offered a different dish but I declined it. Service was slow. They did not deduct any amount for the dish. The bill was very high I will not return anytime soon
Expensive! But, the service and food are exceptional. I enjoyed the experience.
Very nice owner/chef. However, the prices were outrageous. Waiter pointed us to a very expensive bottle of wine and an appetizer that was inedible and also very expensive. Pasta was undercooked. Worst meal we had in Chicago. I hate writing bad reviews; however, people should beware. If you don't care about the price and the taste and waiters you cannot understand, then you will be fine.
We dined at Pelago in celebration of my wife's birthday, and had a wonderful experience. We have been there several times in the past and as always, the food was excellent. My pasta was prepared to al dente perfection, and the staff was accommodating in honoring my request to shave the generous portion of truffles onto it at our table. My wife's veal ravioli were magnificent, and throughout, the service staff was attentive without hovering. For up-scale Italian food, we prefer Pelago to a much more famous nearby restaurant hands down.
They hit it out of the park! I am so happy I picked this restaurant to celebrate our 20th Anniversary! The wait staff was excellent!
Excellent restaurant. Hard to understand the servers at times. Take your appetite with you, the food is to die for!
The service was not quite what I had expected from such a sophisticated restaurant.
We love to take friends to Pelago. The menu is extensive with excellent pasta and many seafood dishes. One of the appetizers is a tasting menu of pasta which is unique and delicious. Two in our party were vegans, and the chef made accommodations to provide them with a very tasty dinner. Service and ambience are wonderful!
We go here quite often when visiting Chicago and the food is amazing! Their outdoor patio was inviting, friendly and very nice. Service is prompt and efficient. Great place to dine!
Best italian in Chicago. Nothing even close to Pelago. The pasta is incredible. Staff amazing. Great time every time we’re visiting.
Excellent as always,
The food is delicious and the terrace lovely, but it is very, very expensive.
We are outside on a quiet afternoon. The service was wonderful. The ambiance was great. We can’t wait to go back.
Superb staff and wine recommendations to match food. Loved the pasta.
1st time here. Tony and Jesus provided us a great dining experience. We sat outside as weather was cooperative. Flowers and garden atmosphere added to the experience. Black truffled pasta cooked al dente. Will definitely be back to try to beauty of the inside. Food, service,atmosphere....what else could we ask for. Thank you.
Francesco and Maurio continue to make for the best evenings ever. A very special restaurant, with exceptional service, and outstanding food.
Sadly, Pelago is not what it used to be. While the service and ambiance continue to shine, the food, by and large is no longer delicious. The salmon crab roll, once robust, is now dry and wholly lacking in flavor. The pinot grigio is a flat, watery pool. Disappointed on East Delaware Place.
Absolutely fantastic! My husband and I have dined here a handful of times and will continue to return. It's one of the best restaurants we have been to in the city. The service was impeccable and the food was devine.
We were charged $35.00 for a valet parking. After asking why it is $35.00 instead of $13.00 as advertised, we were told that the owner has to deal with it. The owner/chef came out, told us that he has nothing to do with the valet, told us not to come back and trow some money into our car through the open window. NEVER felt to humiliated before! Terrible services, no client's appreciation, bad manners!!! NOT the way to treat customers!
My employees called me out of the kitchen because this grouchy lady was very upset about the valet parking mistake. I kindly asked her to wait for the valet personnel to come back from the garage to fix the issue but she was so angry that she couldn't understand reasons. I gave her the money back but she didn't stop screaming that she didn't wanted my money, so then when I didn't know what else to do to help, I asked her to leave me alone and to not come back anymore. What do they want from me?
