This felt like an old school steak house to me in the best way possible. It was clean and simply decorated. The staff were all extremely friendly and professional with excellent recommendations on wine and food. All of our meals were delicious!
This is definitely a higher price point than one might expect for Greek food, but everything was full of flavor and very well made. As a fellow Greek I’m a pretty tough critic of Greek restaurants and I have to say the flavors and execution were on point. I will definitely come back.
The wines by the bottle seemed just a tad over priced, but in the end they were quite delicious so I can’t complain too much.
Lovely outdoor seating, delicious food and terrific wait staff. One of our favorite NYC restaurants.
We always dine at Periyali when visiting NYC. The restaurant never fails to impress us. The food is reliably delicious especially the octopus, Branzino and the lamb chops. You won't go wrong with any dish you order as they are all wonderful. The atmosphere is romantic and crisp but not stuffy. I guarantee you will enjoy your time at Periyali.
Great food, neighborhood dining experience, ambiance. Totally recommend!
Going to Peryali is like visiting a long lost friend. The same enjoyable and authentic food, friendly and efficient service, familiar environment, with the additional space outside. Good wine list, including some excellent California by the glass.
It was a very enjoyable evening!
Snapper was easily the best fish I’ve had in the city. We loved our waiter Mack. Can’t wait to come back again!
Great service and delicious cuisine!
Great atmosphere, great food, outstanding service.
Been going here for years. Terrific food, service, etc. -- everything. They're especially good at seafood. Romantic, too.
Good Greek/Mediterranean food.
Quiet restaurant (for NYC) with soft music in the background.
Hi. Appetizers: The special of the day…A country-style spinach pie in Phyllo crust, a fresh tomato-feta salad, a yellow split pea dip served with warm pita bread, and then the waiter suggested to try their pan-seared Greek cheese (Saganaki)…all of them were absolutely delicious, especially during these hot summer evenings! They had some specials, so we tried the red snapper fillet with Broccolini. It tasted fresh, and it was cooked to perfection. For dessert we tried the orange cake with vanilla ice cream. It felt light and it was good to end dinner on that note. The service (our waiter) was outstanding, so we wouldn't hesitate coming back because he was sincere, knowledgeable, and pretty good at recommending things. AAA+
Always fresh and good
We have not been there for several years we do not live in the area we have been wanting to go there the moment we walked in we were greeted with such kindness. They made us feel very special everything was spectacular the service was incredible all the food was piping hot and so fresh it was as if we could go back 20 years and it be the same as it was thenWhen we walked in and walked to our table the waiter was standing there and he recognized us and we recognized him from years and years ago. All I can say is I can’t wait to go back. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone they will never be disappointed.
Another great dinner at one of my favorite restaurants! My husband and I have been coming here for years and are thrilled that it has survived the pandemic and continues to thrive with excellent food and service. I usually have the grilled octopus and grilled mushroom salad, but everything we’ve tried has been wonderful. Last night my husband had the lamb chops for the first time and Lisa I’d they were perfect. Our favorite dessert is the creamy and deeply satisfying rice pudding.
The food and service were phenomenal! However the portions were a lot smaller than we all anticipated. But other than that we had a wonderful time at Periyali.
The Branzino was cooked perfectly. The dips superb.
I have loved Periyali for a long time. The octopus is always special, tho I also love their chicken soup. The lamb chops are fabulous. It is pretty and subdued inside. I don't like Greek wines, but they had an excellent California cabernet by the glass. I'd say great for a special occasion, birthday or anniversary, or just when you want a solid good meal.
Always our favorite. It has been a while and upon our return everyone was so gracious to welcome us back. Delicious
The best Greek food around
We ate outdoors and the Restaurant Prix Fixe menu was available. Otherwise, it would have been less affordable, but still a superb choice for Greek dining.
At the present location for 35 years, Periyali has never disappointed.
Check it out!
My friend and I enjoyed the food very much. We both ordered the octopus for appetizers and the brazino for our entree. It was my third visit and I look forward to dining at Periyali again. Thank you staff and chef for another great experience. GOD bless!😍
Went there for a friend's birthday and food was delicious.
Very friendly and welcoming wait staff. The food was excellent.
We LOVE Periyali
Shed ambiance note - We're still coming out of the pandemic, so they deserve credit for the outdoor shed option. Compared to other outdoor sheds, though, no charm at all. Large plants hide road traffic but otherwise no decoration, and in particular no warm or mood lighting. At their price level, I would have expected more design effort on the shed set up.
Mack the waiter is awesome! Go early when you can have him all to yourself!
We booked because our preferred Greek restaurant, Kyma, was full and we had just come back from Greece last week and were craving good Greek food. The reviews were pretty good so we were looking forward to trying something new. BIG MISTAKE!
Everyone at the table agreed this was the worst service experience we have had in a long time — and one of us lives in Europe which says a lot about understanding bad service! The Maitre’D (or disgruntled Host??) was particularly rude and indifferent. We spent most of the time flagging down a waiter to order or follow-up on orders, had empty water glasses throughout the meal, and dirty plates and cutlery that were not cleared efficiently. It only kept getting worse when one of the items ordered was forgotten and someone had to wait for their main dish. And though there was plenty of time for desserts to be offered after we had finished eating our main course, we decided to leave and get dessert elsewhere.
The food was fine but not good enough to compensate for the lack of service so definitely will not return or recommend. Very basic dishes.
Also, there are compartmentalised areas towards the back of the restaurant better suited for large parties so why they would seat a round table of 10 in the main area next to the kitchen door in the path to the back areas, I have no idea!
Not family friendly in case anyone was considering it.
i have been at this restaurant several time and always great experience. Maybe the Iris flowers too intense smell.
One of our favorite restaurants!
Always so delicious!
Our server was excellent.
Overall experience chill and dope.
Excellent Greek restaurant. The food is well prepared and very fresh ingredients
This used to be my favorite Greek restaurant for 20 years, but it has gone downhill. Owner/Manager/Waitstaff are rude. Service is nonexistent. Better Greek food and atmosphere elsewhere. Bye bye.
Great food. Really authentic greek place that's formal enough but not too much of a scene. Highly recommended.
We are regular customers and had not dined at Periyali since before the pandemic. We found it to have maintained its high standards at every level.
Make sure to order the octopus and the mushroom appetizers. They were out of this world delicious, we ordered them all twice! Can’t wait to go back. 🙏
Restaurant looked great and a cool ambiance. However food was not great. Had the fried calamari and grilled octopus, both not great. The Branzino entree was not good at all.
Consistently a great place for simple Greek dining
Wonderful service, delicious dishes- Greek with a modern twist. I had the seared scallops- perfectly cooked. The calamari as a starter is a must— so tender. Not an inexpensive meal but worth it, especially for a special occasion.
This is the place to eat grilled octopus in New York City. I recommend all the food we ate. We started with two wonderful appetizers, each served with a lovely little salad and scordalia, 1. beets, and 2. giant beans. We also had fantastic fried calamari. Then three of the four of us ordered the grilled octopus as a main course which was served with lemon potatoes and horta. Everyone was happy. Our fourth ordered a special of the night which she also really liked.
