The service was slow and the portions were smaller than expected
The food was excellent (except we asked for dark meat & received white meat) the chef gave our waitress a hard time insisting our food was dark but I took the wing off. Restaurant claims they have a variety of beer but when Asked for certain kind of beer they were out. Our waitress didn’t come check on us to see if we wanted anything.
Birthday, no mention of it or took my reservations, but the food was good
Our server tried her best but she was the only one on duty. The food was just ok. The cornbread saved the day! Mac and cheese and brisket were the worse part of my meal. The rib tips, chicken and collards were fine but could have been seasoned better.
Mediocrity abounds at this generally average location. Everything needs a spiffing up. The wait staff was non existent. 15 minutes to get drink service, when there is only one other table seating in the joint? The brunch service was atrocious. Again, should have known when there was only one other table seated at 11AM for brunch. Food was substandard in all ways. Collards out of a can? Bland? That would be an upgrade.
The food wasn’t anything to write home about on this night. I’ve had take out from here before that was much better. The service matched the food. My server worked behind the bar as well and acted as if he really didn’t want to be there. He spoke to us in a very matter of a fact kind of tone or when we asked questions about the drinks he spoke very low and as if we should know the answers to those questions..every time I come to the Hyde Park location the staff is always doing their own thing. On their cell phones behind the bar, sitting at the bar eating. This location needs to be retrained and or hire a staff that cares.
it was terrible, got there at 5:20pm my husband got his food at 6:37 ,& I didn't get my food until 7:30 all I ordered was shrimp & gritsI will never eat here agian.
I was so disappointed in the customer service. We waited 40 minutes for a salad. Our waitress disappeared so we had to grab another waitress to get our food. Once my food can my corn in the cob was burnt and my rib tips were rubbery. I was very disappointed considering how excited I was to try it out.
I was so disappointed with this restaurant. There were very few people in there but the waiter would leave and not come back for a while. His personality was such where we did not feel welcome. The carpet looked as if they had not vacuumed in a while. The booth seats looked frayed, some you can see the cuts from wear and tear. The coleslaw had to be sent back because it was barely edible, simply not good. The mac and cheese tasted powdery as if they used cheese powder instead of real cheese to make it and the consistency was watery. The smoked chicken wings and chicken gumbo were good items but the ribs were as if they were served from yesterday and not fresh. It was my mother's birthday so she had a bad experience and I promised to make it up to her. I will not come here again.
I went out with my boyfriend and we wanted to try something new. When we entered the place, I noticed the air conditioner was not working, so they had to use a portable one. I ordered the salmon dinner and he ordered the fried rib dinner. The salmon did not have much flavor and I had to constantly squeeze some lemon wedge in order for it to have flavor. The red beans and rice was NOT the traditional type and the collard greens were bland. My boyfriend said his dinner was okay, but not very good. I wood give it a 2.5 due to the sweet potato fries and the waitress being okay
I have nothing nice to say , so I'll remain silent.
Food was awful! Order the fried oyster po boy and the oysters looked like okra and tasted like fried sardines. Worst I have ever had. And although I put details in my reservation nothing was done to celebrate our special occasion.
Really good BBQ. Helpful dealing with our food allergy issues.
Food was boiled and bland. Just covered in bbq sauce and broiled.
Meh. The concept-- whiskey and southern comfort food-- most excellent. The execution---bland and overpriced. Don't bother.
Ordered BBQ ribs and was not told I needed an electric saw! The toughest meat I have ever “tried” to sink my teeth in.
Scheduled a last minute reservation for 8 and was easily accommodated. Quick and fast service.
Great food. But our server constantly seemed lost and took forever to get us our food and the check.
Had a 3:30 reservation. Hardly no one was in the restaurant. Seated right away and food took no time at all.
This restaurant was probably the worse in all my experience of dining out. This restaurant was participating in Restaurant Week per opentable - but, they did not acknowledge it nor did they ask about my reservations. The food was alright, but the portions weren’t that nice of a size. Honestly, I could have dined at another restaurant for the price of our meal. Was not happy with my drinks and had to send a lemon drop martini back twice, now the Pork Chop punch was delicious.
Went here for my birthday. A "restaurant consultant" who kept bothering us during dinner made a huge deal about my birthday, however did nothing for it. There was one server there. Very good bartender though!
This restaurant location is not part of the Open Table website so my reservation never took. Multiple people that arrived that night had the same issue.
I enjoyed the food. It was good, but not as good as its hyped up to be. And it arrived at the table a little cold. I didn’t get my drink until we were almost done eating, and it sucked. It was butter and watered down, but since we were going to leave soon, I didn’t care to get another. I would give it another chance, though. Hopefully the overall experience will be better.
Food was amazing, easy parking and prices are affordable.
The restaurant was closed.
Don't know why they accepted reservations when the place was closed.
We dined at Porkchop - Hyde Park because we wanted a good, sit-down, bbq dinner. I was apprehensive because our visits to their South Suburban location had been very disappointing but we heard nothing but wonderful things about this Chicago location so...we gave it a try.
Porkchop - Hyde Park was fantastic! We were not disappointed. The bbq was on point, from the ribs to the pulled pork sandwich. I had a Melon Mule, which is a melon-flavored version of a Moscow Mule, and it was excellent. I would recommend ordering the cornbread as well. Consider it a "must have" on your visit. Our server was great and very attentive. This is a cozy location, delightfully decorated, and a great place to kick back with good food and good friends. We will gladly return to Porkchop- Hyde Park.
This is the second time my friends and I went here. We went because of great BBQ but we're surprised with great service and a wide bar selection. It is comfortable and relaxed to dine here.
Fast, good and affordable!! The service was excellent and there was plenty to take home
Most importantly, the food was very good. We enjoyed gumbo, pulled chicken house salads and cornbread. Everything was delicious, with nice presentation. The service was good, with staff working together to deliver meals promptly. The only concern was that they were out of bottled beer, and we got the last two bottles of root beer, making us think there was an issue with their beverage supplier. That said, I would go back, and would like to try some of their BBQ.
Good food and great service. The food and drinks were wonderful! The waitress was really nice.
We got seated at a long table, the air unit above us was leaking in three different spots, so we had to seat ourselves awkwardly. However that being said the wait staff was beyond friendly and blew away our expectations!!!
Ordered shrimp and cheese grits. Grits was not as cheesy. Only had (3) shrimps added to bowl.... my fiancé ordered ribs. The ribs was not cut up and were dry. The fries were greasy and the macaroni and cheese was very nasty.
This was are first visit and was not all that impressed.
I went here with friends to test "Chicago BBQ", and was very pleased. We each ordered a different plate and shared. Beef tips, ribs, and brisquet were all incredible, as well as martinis, bourbon and beer. This is a comfortable spot tucked into Hyde Park worth traveling to.
Our server was great. She was friendly, attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. We had fried ribs and shrimp & grits. Everything was really tasty.
They didn't have our reservation but did find a table for us. It was pretty smokey in the bar as if something had burned. The fried okra was amazing and the brisket as always was awesome on the others people plates. Mine was pretty fatty and thin but everyone else enjoyed theirs.
The Hyde Park Beer Fest was going on and it was super busy at the bar. Our waitress was still timely and even pitched in to help with the bar crowd. I never felt forgotten.
The service was horrible!!. I guess they were under staffed. We got our food and didn't have a server come check on us after that. We had to wait for about 20 mins before a server brought us our check.
The waiter was wonderful and most apologetic. The food from the kitchen was very slow, not all meals came at the same time, and the Open Table reservations, though confirmed, were not ready at the appointed time.
Waiter was attentive. Food was excellent (except I did not like the mash potatoes) seems like it had sour cream mixed in.
