We had a group of 11 people and they treated us very well. Great service especially given the size of our group.
Great family restaurant, service and food consistent. Very cozy and warm ambiance.
I had linguine with seafood, a little spicy but still very good. It was nice to have Mike stop by to chat. We always have a delicious dinner there and the menu has something for everyone.
We have eaten there before and have had a very good experience. It’s very good Italian food and if you go during the daytime and sit outside it is very enjoyable.
Our server was preoccupied and not very attentive. We had to speak with him several times before he responded.
The food was very good, except for the special pizza.
Our waiter couldn't adequately answer any of our questions in regards to ordering wine. After we got our glass of wine he seem to disappear. He took him a very long time to come back and take our dinner orders. The overall service was very poor. We have eaten there on numerous occasions and not run into this mediocre service.
Consistently great food. Wonderful, casual neighborhood favorite!
HIGH QUALITY, EXCELLENT MENU WITH LOTS OF VARIETY, FUN AMBIENCE. GREAT SERVICE. IF ONLY IT WERE A LITTLE QUIETER, OT WOULD BE PERFECT!
I did not get my appetizer with the rest of our party of 4. The waitress blamed the chef when asked. After another 10 minutes I asked the waitress to cancel my appetizer as my fellow diners had finished their appetizers. The waitress said it would be 1 more minute. The waitress then brought the appetizer 15 minutes later and said it would be comped. The host came by later and apologized and did comp our wine. He spoke to the men in our party rather then me -the person that experienced the poor service. Not a very enjoyable experience on a Saturday night when we wanted to relax after a long work week.
While the food is pretty good at Portola Kitchen, the service at dinner is spotty at best. I don’t plan on returning anytime soon
as this has happened about half the we have dined there. I hope the restaurant does correct this going forward.
Comfortable atmosphere and great service. Food was tasty!
We hadn’t been here since it was the Ridgeside Cafe years prior ... same owners apparently. It was a delightful experience to return and rediscover a great place. It was a warm and energetic atmosphere that is perfect for families.
Recommended by my son and well worth the visit. After a great lunch we wandered thru the food mart just across from the restaurant.
We love Portola Kitchen. Food, ambiance and experience is excellent. The specials tonight were exceptional, definitely always check the special sheet, don’t just look at the standard menu! Tonight the service was slow and our waiter was running around a lot more than normal but was extremely apologetic for the delay. It did not impact the quality of the food at all and his “helpers” kept everything else going as expected. We will be back for sure.
The seared tuna salad that I had was not good/bad. The tuna was not prepared well and not fresh. The tuna melt that my Mother ordered was better. Bad performance on this salad. I recommend you avoid the Seared Ahi Tuna Salad.
We’ve eaten here quite a few times before and never had an issue. Unfortunately this evening the pasta, three of the dishes came out cold, beverages were never refreshed. And coffee was served after Desert was finished.
A neighborhood restaurant with Italian oriented foods. While better than your average shopping center restaurant, the menu is not very exciting. Pasta plates, and several meat and fish dishes but not very exciting and unique. I’ll still back for sure, but wish they’d be more experimental in preparation and sauces... fewer ozs and more unique presentations and flavors.
Very nice outdoor dining spot.
Fantastic! We ate dinner outside and danced a bit to a lively trio, who were really good. Ran into some old friends and had a wonderful time.
Loved this experience. Great food, wonderful service, nice ambience. Definitely going back
Calamari was tough and over breaded.o
I bolognaise sauce had large clumps of ground meat. We thought it was sausage, but our waiter assured us that it was beef and veal.
The meat in that sauce should be of light texture and chopped fine.
The house made gnocchi were excellent in texture, though.
This was the second time we experienced sub-par food.
We will not return.
The waiter abandoned us after taking our order. We had to beg for more water and our second wine glass never arrived, after ordering by a passing waiter. Really bad service!!
When we arrived, we were asked four times ! For our name. The interior seating had less than half full.
Really good food. Been here about four times now and haven't ordered anything yet that hasn't been outstanding: Fish, veal, salads, steak, desserts. It low key looking from the outside, but the food is top notch. Service is always friendly. Nice outdoor seating area. One of my favorite restaurants to go to for a reasonably priced, well prepared meal.
I have been here a couple of times before and was always disappointed. That was not the case this time. The salads were fresh and well made. The service was excellent and dessert was good as well. Perhaps there is new management or it was a good day when there were less customers. Still, keep up the good work.
My husband and I took my 94 year old dad (in his wheelchair) and his 94 year old wife (with a walker) to dinner at Portola Kitchen. The staff was very responsive and accommodating to our needs. We had a friendly good natured waiter. My husband loved his “spicy” pasta and my dad gobbled up his pasta with marinara sauce & meatballs. My creamy red & vodka sauce lacked flavor. The restaurant was a bit loud for our needs (2people with hearing aids) but the ambience was festive.
Carlo is great! Awesome food and drinks. Thank you
Service, food and ambiance all excellent. There was a miscommunication between myself and the waiter. He opened the wrong bottle of a very expensive wine. I felt bad. The waiter assured me it was okay - he handled it well.
Very energetic place!
Excellent food preparation. Best cooked fish. Very casual.
We went there for brunch. Very expensive and nothing special - food was mediocre. have not been there for lunch or dinner so I cannot comment on whether those meals would be better.
Haven't been in here in some time but really enjoyed the evening. Outside dining with lots of options, although the live music made it difficult to hear my dinner companions. Lovely pasta and good selection of wines by the glass.
I've been coming here for years. The food is always very good and the environment interesting, with the outside seating sharing a breezeway with the produce section of Bianchini's Market.
The hostess is young but somehow she makes it work. The wait staff understand the menu and get people served well.
Unfortunately the bar tenders are uninterested in serving and arrogant once you finally get their attention. I own two comparable establishments in Marin and these guys would be fired. Where's the manager?
4 star restaurant with a 1 star bar.
Service is horrible! 30 minute seated, had to then complain to get someone to our table to order. Same problem trying to pay bill to exit. Only go here if you are very long on patience.
Quaint little neighborhood restaurant with excellent food. We've eaten inside several times and outside more recently. Outside was much busier & noisier. Service a little slower also outside. But we will return because of the food! Thank you.
Portola Kitchen is a great place for lunch of any kind .... Birthday, Business, Anniversary or just to eat. Def is the go to place in that area. Food is always good, service the same. Ben there many times and will continue to go.... Yum
I had been here two other times and it was nice. However this time the experience was horrible.
I will give Portola Kitchen another try.
Fantastic food and service. Noise level a little high, by expected, and understandable. One of the finer establishment on the Peninsula to get fresh pasta.
To the wise, make your reservation. It’s well worth it.
Lunch and dinner are outstanding.
Cute little patio are as well.
Food varied. Halibut was delicious, lasagna was inedible.
Sunday brunch - ate outside. 2 salads, 1 frittata. All good. Service excellent and sitting outside is wonderful.
Good Service. Chicken in Cobb salad was very dry. A little pricey. Pretty noisy. Hard to have a conversation with the person I sat across from.
Excellent food, the wait staff were very attentive and the restaurant is beautiful.
The pasta with eggplant was delicious and cooked to perfection. The squash soup was outstanding - needs to be on the menu more often - maybe a regular item in season. The espresso and ice cream was fine too - I appreciated the two chocolates on top.
It was lovely to sit outside, but we missed the musicians that occasionally play.
We were served by a delightful waitress who really helped make the evening more enjoyable than usual.
From Grandma to little kids, it was something for everyone.
