Prairie Grass Café
Wonderful attentive service. Nice setting. Excellent creative salads. Hamburger to die for. Highly recommend.
Best food o the North Shore
Amazing food and wine. Must go to dining in Chicago. They know how to curate an excellent meal. The wine list is small but fabulous.
Food was quite good. Duck was great. Put us in a small corner of the restaurant which was hot. Not sure why they put us there but it really took away from the occasion.
Great food and service. Perfect spot for city dwellers to meet friends from the North Shore.
The food was amazing...true original flavors and everything cooked to perfection.
Makes a killer dirty martini
Shrimp roll is excellent. Not spicy. Crab cake - is now an entree. Flavorful sauce. More like a sandwich.
Ora King salmon - wonderful. Did not enjoy regular potatoes as vegetable. Spinach - OK, but sauce could be made with egg whites, and more flavorful. Cherry pie - reliable dessert.
We had a wonderful lunch. The egg salad sandwich and the fish sandwich were delicious!
Check out the menu and the specials they have. The wait staff is so attentive and everyone is very friendly! The food is great and the chef has so many little things going with the menu.
Host was a bit rude to my husband when we left regarding where he had left his hat during our meal.
No pork on the menu for my husband who is a pork freak-no, didn’t check the menu in advance.
Good seating, quiet, good parking.
My salmon was wonderful🤪
We had fantastic service and wonderful food. We had the salmon and the striped bass along with the chicken liver appetizer along with a piece of cherry pie! We will go back.
Our food was wonderful and our service was outstanding!
My food was excellent but my friend thought the crab cake was not top quality. Service was initially good but fell away.
This is my favorite place to eat. Great food, reasonable prices and very good service!
For us, the "Wow" factor of Prarie Grass Cafe seems to have slipped away in the past 4 months or so. The food was good, but not great. Certainly fell short of the expectations I have for the award winning chefs listed on the website. I'd prefer to score the food at 3.5 stars and overall score at 3.5 stars but Open Table system functionality does not support that.
We had great engagement with the staff (hostess, waiter, servers) from beginning to our dessert orders, but then it seemed as though the selling was done and we were forgotten. I don't know how you can try to enforce a dress code (my understanding is business casual), but quite frankly, it was annoying that so many people were allowed in and dressed like slobs - sweat pants, yoga pants, hoody's, torn jeans, athletic shoes. Additionally, the kids running around next to our table that were'nt kept in line just added to the disappointment and really took the experience down a few notches.
We intentionally chose Prairie Grass Cafe because of our great experiences in prior months. We brought an out of town guest there to enjoy a meal of (perceived or expected?) higher quality and I expected the environment to be special too. It wasn't.
Not sure we will be going back when there are other upscale options on the Northshore. If you want a super casual dining experience in a loud setting with average food at above average prices - then this will work for you. Party of 3 adults .... 1 appetizer, 3 entrees, 3 desserts, 3 glasses of wine ($45), total bill w/o tip $198.00.
Food is amazing.
One of the best restaurants around. We told our trainer we were headed there for lunch, and she said, "Everybody loves that place." That sums it up. A relatively small menu with a lot of variety, the occasional special, always a wonderful soup and pie. Our favorites include the egg salad sandwich and tilapia with Parmesan crust. But the burger is great, the crispy chicken salad equally good. Helga is an especially gracious welcomer and many of the waitstaff are warm and helpful. For a quieter lunch, come after 1 p.m., when the lively business crowd has moved on. The weekend brunch menu is outstanding. The lemon-ricotta pancakes are sensational. Luckily Prairie Grass packs up food on request, and the pancakes reheat beautifully. Great place!
Americana menu good selection of fish meats and vegetables/salads. Good deal on Monday half price wine and no corkage fee if you bring your own. We had the Brussel sprout salad, lamb dish and skirt steak all were prepared nicely seasoned and cooked well - the skirt steak can be challenging they did a good job. George was our server and provided us with thoughtful service taking good care of us. What he didn’t know, he quickly found out and was happy to do so. The dining room NEEDS an update. The sea of unused tables makes the room seem tired. Suggest taking a third out and put a nice island in the middle of the room servers can use and can top with flowers or modern centerpiece. Cover the tables in clothes, paper or clean them up.
Splurge on the NY Strip - flavor is wonderful! Smashed Avocado appetizer and Crispy Brussels Sprouts salad were a hit around the table. Attentive but not overbearing service; quiet atmosphere in which conversation is easy.
Great food and ambience. Would definitely go again. Lemon Ricotta pancakes are a must!
Service was very disappointing...after the waitress apologized for not getting to our table and then disappeared for 15 minutes. She did not seem very concerned about the lack of attention to our table.
Food was also very disappointing.
Visited Prairie Grass for Saturday brunch. Food was good. We sat and laughed for a long time and server didn’t bother us. Thanks for great eats, mimosas and a morning of girlfriend fun. Neighborhood gem.
As always great quality, service and options.
Always good food, great service and our favorite spot for a business luncheon.
Food and service were great! Unfortunately, it was so noisy at lunch time that is was very difficult to have a conversation across the table in our booth.
They have a great selection of food that I feel is a little healthier than most other restaurants. Staff is very nice, one of our favorite places to go.
Delicious food, excellent service
Always exceptional. Great menu and specials. Beautifully prepared food, wonderful service and warm atmosphere.
Lamb sausage and chard was excellent and great next day lunch!
I indicated on my reservation it was a special birthday and then called one hour before my reservation to ensure there would be some recognition of my father’s birthday. After I reminded them again when we were done with dinner we waited about 10 minutes. As we were walking out with our coats on they brought a cupcake. I was so upset and told the woman at the front desk it was not a very nice way to treat regular customers and we would not come back. Her response — “good” They should be ashamed. Instead of an apology an insult.
Great flavors and high quality food always. Relaxed environment and excellent service. It's not cheap, but for the quality a reasonable value compared to other high end options. Definitely recommend strongly.
We love the round tables for a group. It made it easy for everyone to get together.
Always a good experience either at lunch or dinner. Typically have business dinners at PG.
Wonderful and thank you so much!
Food was great (lamb sausage, cheese, salads), service average, dining room outdated and a bit run down. Very overpriced considering a fairly standard menu and below average atmosphere.
Very disappointed that your menu offers lamb sausage again but in a mix with vegetables. Did not want to even try it. Also the kitchen was out of a special salad with Ravinia lettuce Etc but it wasn’t even 6:45! Plus my husband said his fish was fair...won’t be coming back anytime soon..
We meet with friends who were in from out of town. None of us had been to Prairie Grass in a number of years. We all had good memories from past visits and were not disappointed on this visit.
We dine multiple times per year at Prairie Grass.
Always highly satisfying
We enjoy fact that it’s menu offerings vary from one visit to the next.
As well, service is exemplary.
So many options for meat lovers, vegan etc. All really good. Lots of non-dairy options.
Excellent restaurant. Needs soundproofing. Way too noisy
