We have been to this restaurant many times and it never fails to please. The food is always delicious.
I used to love going to Pure Spirits. I would always get the same thing: the Tuna Niçoise salad. This last time (June 11) was so disappointing.
Firstly I waited 25 minutes to get a Caesar despite the restaurant being only half-full. My salad was horrible. It was a big pile of over-dressed, limp spring mix greens with slices of tuna on top. There were also strange slices of pickled herring or other whitefish which was not supposed to be in the salad according to the ingredients listed. It did not go in the dish at all. The tuna was good is the only positive of the salad. There were huge chunks of underipe tomatoes with cores present.
I asked a passing server where the potatoes where. She wasn't even aware the salad had potatoes in it! After I ate through the big pile of lettuce, I found one half of a fingerling potato, a bunch of minced celery and minced red onion. These were supposed to have been the toppings for the salad--previously hidden under the lettuce. This salad was $28.95 and what I received did not look or taste like the description or even my previous experience.
My server did not visit my table at any time except when my plate was empty to ask how I found my dinner. So I had no opportunity for feedback.
Pure Spirits is where I go when I want to have a treat. I recommend it to friends. Not anymore. Too bad it cost me $78.00 to learn my lesson.
The food was fantastic and the service was excellent. I will definitely eat here again when I next visit Toronto.
I have been to this restaurant with friends and with family many times over the last 4 years and have always been happy and satisfied upon leaving.
Excellent food, preparation, presentation, service and atmosphere.
Pure Spirits has been a favorite venue for us for over a decade. Favorite part were the excellent oysters!!
Hopefully the umbrellas or canopy will be set out on the patio soon... it was quite a sunny and warm spring day.
Amazing seafood meal. I would normally assume this restaurant would be a tourist trap but it was actually beautifully crafted seafood. We had the Thursday special-boullibaise for two. Appetizers included east and west coast oysters and fried smelts. Delicious. Good wine pairing suggestions from the waiter. We left full and satisfied.
4 out 6 of our lunches were way too salty. 1 had to be sent back.
We come often and haven't had this issue in the past.
never disappoints! my favourite place to eat when i’m in toronto no matter what. amazing food and the staff are always friendly!
A very comfortable evening with excellent, fresh fish and seafood options. Service was friendly and present when needed but left us plenty of time to talk. The only thung I would change is the fries. The thin Provencal-style fries would go much better with mussels and other seafood, in my opinion.
Good spot before Soulpepper Theatre. My friend had great chicken dish. I had the seafood pasta - very little seafood. Not value for money.
Our server was excellent as was the food.
Found it a little noisey but that could be I’m getting old.
Would definitely recommend to friends.
Food was amazing, we had scallops and steak. Everything was cooked perfectly. we were seated near the back near the bathroom so lots of traffic. Towards the end of the meal the staff kept looking at us and it felt that we were being a bit rushed
Appetizers too salty Entries were well presented and great tasting Service was excellent Highly recommend
We had early reservations the only table they had to offer us apparently was right by the door! What is the purpose of having a reservation? We asked if we could be moved the restaurant wasn’t even half full, the person managing the desk stated the rest were reserved! And when our reservation came in she squeezed us in! First off the complete time during our time there maybe 2 couples came in! Secondly, if you were squeezing people in then you shouldn’t have it available on open table. You are not a low end restaurant. One should be able to enjoy their meal without the hustle and bustle of the activities and conversations of front end staff. I would totally understand if we were a walk in but we had reservations and had you moved us to another table that was apparently reserved, would they have known? We would of most likely of been done before they arrived! In saying this our server was good , food was alright interesting salad a little too much oil. Hubby enjoyed the muscles , unusual for me no dessert.
Fabulous dining experience. Amazing EAST COAST Oysters too.
Our server, Matthew, was courteous and kind, but did not offer any sincere apologies for forgetting one of our appetizers, no explanation for our long wait (restaurant was practically empty) and when the dessert (key lime pie) one of my guests order was not available, he returned to tell us almost 10 minutes later but saying "the key lime pie was 86'ed". Again, food was great, service attention was a little lacking. Mostly likely because of inexperience.
Food was overpriced. The raw oysters were worth the trip but the entrees were mediocre. None of the desserts were tempting enough to order. Service was very good.
Very delicious oysters! Very nice atmosphere and service
Beautiful space and kind people. I had the pork schnitzel that was very thin and over cooked and oily. My partner was very happy with the chowder and chopped salad.
Great oysters, great wine by glass selection. Ben was one the best waiters I’ve experienced.
Great experience. Can’t wait to go back to try something else on the menu.
Easter get together
We had a wonderful Birthday dinner for my wife. Our two young kids were so well taken care of and entertained by one of the other servers, with magic tricks and extra care. Our server, I don't remember her name was thorough, knowledgeable and attentive. The food was delicious and we also enjoyed the atmosphere.
The mussels were amazing ...the butter chicken broth ...yum. we also had an amazing chocolate pistachio dessert
Really enjoyed our meal - it was all you eat mussels and my wife had the Lobster pappardelle . Both dishes were fresh , served hot and delightfully tasteful . Server was a young lady named Cheyenne who was fun to deal with , very outgoing and easy to talk to, captured just the right amount of attentiveness as well. Another bonus was that I happened to leave my jacket behind and phoned the day after , a nice gentleman by the of Arthur phoned me back and had my garment stored away until I could retrieve it , fantastic. Really enjoyed the evening and will be back
Oysters were great! Although more buck a shuck selection would be nice. Girlfriend ordered yellow fin tuna with salad, very good. I ordered burger and fries, burger was dry and tasteless fries were soggy not your traditional crispy fries Would definitely return for drinks and apps, maybe not for a complete meal though
Great place great service great time. Would totally recommend this restaurant!
Best restaurant in Toronto by far! Always great food and fantastic service. Others could learn from them what real service and food should always be!! Bee and Moe
Been here many times
Food always good
Oysters were best yet ( waiter recommended )
A little expensive, but worth it
We will be back
We came to have dinner before the theatre on a Friday evening. I was on time but my friend was stuck in traffic and was twenty minutes late. Still, our server managed the pace of dinner and drinks so that we did not feel rushed, the dinner itself was plentiful and tasty and we got out on time. Food and drinks done well. Oysters, divided into east and west coast plates, were fresh and tasty. The seafood was cooked properly and spiced nicely. Definitely worth going at any time but perfect for pre-theatre.
Whole experience was very enjoyable, Great service and very pleasing food! This was our second time and we will be back.
Arrived for the reservation hostess noted there were three options for a window seat as requested she was very professional. Darren was our waiter, he was very pleasant, welcoming and was quite familiar with the menus and offered suggestions. The oysters were fresh, lobster Rockefeller, fresh vegetables were cooked to perfection with a slight bite. The sauces were spices and flavourings complimented the tuna as well as the lobster. As it was my husbands birthday a creme brûlée with fresh fruits and short bread was the perfect end to a great dinner along with a candle. So thoughtful without even asking. We will be back again soon.
Hands down the best oysters in town! Been coming here for years and it never disappoints
This is our 2nd time here and we will definitely be back again . Great food, wide variety and great service . The table was ready on time and food came out in a timely manner . Very cool ambiance .
Not only is the food amazing but the cocktails are creative and delicious. I am already planning my next visit because just ... WOW! Also, friendly and welcoming servers who make you feel right at home. The whole package.
One of the best restaurants I have ever been.
Definitely I will go back.
The old saying.... don’t go to a seafood house for steak! What was I thinking! The steak was over cooked and sooooo salty it was inedible, so I tell the manager. He asked if I wanted the kitchen to “remove the au jus”... I couldn’t believe he asked that??? The steak was a $40 steak that I added a lobster tail to for an additional $20. I thought given it was so salty they would have suggested to recook a fresh steak and not add the au jus, but this wasn’t offered. So I said to take it back. 15-20 mins later to replate the steak with the au jus “scrapped off” it was returned and was still super salty. :( The waiter did comp us two glasses of port and the oysters were very fresh. Bad suggesti
Highly recommend making reservations, there were guests waiting at the door when we arrived, but we were seated immediately because we had reservations.
